You have a point but jordan didnt mention any names and at that point they were not focused on anything important and he said that comment now after how many years and I do believe grant, he said on the docu that it was not him leaking the information, and everyone not just Jordan assumed that it was grant because of the reporter that he knew.
Difference is that at the time the the Jordan rules were relevant because he was still playing. All the players mj snitched on now are retired. Their careers are over. The Jordan rules put his reputation on the line when it mattered most (during career). Jordan snitching now has no affect on these players other than embarrassing them.
you scooper Without Pippen ? Is that supposed to be a cool remark ? He only played 3 seasons without Pippen.... nobody hits their prime in their first 2 years .
you scooper We understand that Pippen was an important part but was replaceable unlike Jordan . Saying “without Pippen” , is implying that Jordan failed without Pippen when it reality , it only accounts for his first 3 years in the league .
you scooper That is exactly what I just said and now you are repeating it ? What do you define by success in a players first 3 years l? Jordan played less than 10 games his second year . His 3rd full season he won MVP , DPOY, and the scoring title while being the only guard to still ever do that. It was clear who Jordan was at this point . Pippen was a rookie that year averaging 7.9 points and almost 4 rebounds . Show me another player in the past 30 years that has put up comparable stats within their first 3 years . Once again , Jordan won DPOY his third full season and had identical defensive stats his second full season . This is while he was leading the league in scoring for both of those years . Your argument is moot .
you scooper You are the one that limited it to Jordan’s first 3 years since you referenced “without Pippen “ . Anyway , Jordan’s second full season in the league was better than any year Scottie had in his whole career . Name one player in recent history that has had more success in their first 3 years than Jordan with a similar talented team .
DON'T forget he won two more title with Lakers so yeah he always had a mentality of champion. But the worst part is that every important piece of Chicago bulls had issues and Jordan was only who always knew what to do, yeah yeah
Bck then! These new kids & people that’s watching didn’t know none of this! It wouldn’t have been a surprise if everyone knew! & he was tlking bout his team & teammates! @@keithwilliams3714 10 hrs of no comment and the same old material would be boring. Besides, he said "practically the whole team", which means "almost the whole team". Was an innocent, funny story.
To answer Horace: Jordan said that to set up the narrative of how crappy and lax the Bulls organization was when he got there and how he changed that culture
Sr. Chiqi Tibum EXACTLY! The Bulls weren't about winning until MJ got there and changed the culture. And frankly, they haven't been about winning even remotely since MJ left except for when Derrick Rose was at his pre-injury best and they still have no chips since MJ left.
I dont agree with Stephen, yes, Jordan's perspective is interesting, but that does not automatically mean that people would not be interested in a more balanced perceptive. Why wouldnt they? Everybody knows it is a team effort. And iIf Im talking to for myself, I was very curious to hear the perspective of the other team members.
If I am Jordan, I come back from a broken leg and put up 49 and 63 and still can't win a game against Boston , I might be a bit pissed about half my team being a bunch of coke heads. I bet in MJ's mind if the vets were doing what they should have been doing, he feels he should have some rings in the 80's too. He sure never got any young players that could put up 30 much less 60 in a game.
Exactly, those players were robbing the city of Chicago. Plus it was already well documented that they were mostly coke heads on that team when MJ got there, there was no secret being revealed.
There is a difference between saying "My teammates liked prostitutes, coke and weed" and saying "there was a culture where people celebrated before achieving". or "people liked enjoying themselves more than making an effort to win championchips." You can say this without going into the specifics.
There are a lot of old documentaries about the Bulls two threepeats, a couple that used get played a lot on repeat when I was younger. They didn't cover MJ much and he didn't talk much, because after MJ's father died, he kept the press at a distance, and since then hasn't been very accessible to the press. The reason why the Last Dance is so good, is because you get so much access to MJ. Most of the other guys, outside of say Phil are fairly easy to access.
just thee folks that say 'everybody believes everything MJ says', so we supposed to not believe what he says, even when there are multiple instances that point to him and he never denied it in 30 yrs until now.
Virginia Slimm You can focus on sneakers, I’ll focus on the actual games and how the Bulls won them. It wasn’t just Michael. Mainly Michael? Absolutely. All Michael? No.
The last dance was pushed to an earlier date instead of releasing in last week of June after the NBA Finals. Due to Covid 19. Some guys were left off as they cannot possibly interview them. Felt like it was rushed.
There were a lot of things that didnt get mentioned. In game 5 that clinched their first championship against the Lakers, Pippen had 32 pts 13 rbs 7 assts and 5 steals all the while shutting down Magic Johnson, and all they did was give him credit for his D on Magic and talk about 'the Shot'. Pip was the reason they won the clincher more than Jordan. Plus other guys like Craig Hodges who hit big 3 pt shots, didnt get mentioned at all. At least Kukoc had a piece on him, Horace Grant was a side note, when they never would have won the first 3 w/o him.
TollFree999 Yep. They also didn’t show Pip leading the team back from down 15 with MJ on the bench in game 6 of the 1992 finals. Nor did they show him winning all-star MVP in ‘94, or his awesome dunk on Charles Smith in ‘95.
All Horace had to do was call him a liar & that would of been the end of it to me. The fact he contradicted himself with the snitch part tells me, he probably did go behind MJ’s back & gave that writer some info on MJ
Calling him a snitch doesn't mean he's tellin the truth! Anyone that tells a story that has nothing to do w/him is snitch. The Snitch doesn't have to necessarily b tellin the truth? Snitches simply give too much info, could b true, could b fabricated
I'm not a Stephen A. fan, but he did bring up a point about Horace Grant. AS a BIG Bulls fan who watched almost every game from 1985 - 1998 while living in Chicago it was pretty well known amongst the die-hard fans that Horace Grant WAS a consummate whiner and that drove Jordan crazy especially when they lost. However it was more than that. “When I first came to the Bulls, my relationship with Horace Grant was very close, we got drafted together, we flew on the same plane to come in. We immediately bonded like brothers, we started working out together and we just grew and we were inseparable.” “Michael had a little problem with that. And really, it was more of a problem with him and Horace. Horace and Michael didn’t really see eye-to-eye. “He believed in everything being equal. And there were days when Michael would play 45 minutes, even 48 minutes, and Horace just didn’t understand.” “As time passed, my relationship with Horace was still strong, but as Horace became a free agent, he just decided he didn’t want to be here anymore. And my relationship with Michael came a little closer.” I think Pippen realized that buddying up to Grant who DID wear his heart on his sleeve, and openly feuded with Jordan and Phil Jackson in the clubhouse was not in his best career interests, and it put him at odds with Jordan whom he was trying to emulate. Jordan would routinely challenge players viciously for bad games and in practices which was corroborated by many of the players in both the documentary, independent interviews, and Sam Smith's book. The incident on the airplane where Jordan took away Grant's food and told the flight attendants not to serve him ANYTHING was pretty well known, but isn't often mentioned now over 35 years later. But it didn't end there for Horace Grant after he left the Bulls. Part of the reason he got cut from the Magic in 2002 was that he was a clubhouse cancer per Doc Rivers.
I would argue that people would love to see documentaries on other teams and from other players. It would also go far towards explaining the game to the layman/woman and making enriching the game/viewer base/fan base instead of building up false heroes or one player all day everyday (i.e. LeBron/Durant, etc.)

I think the difference is MJ is talking about the coke and whatever on their team years after that thing happened and he didn’t talk about it at that time. MJ was angry coz he suspected Horace was talking to those book writers while the situation was all fresh. I feel like talking about the cocaine train 30+ years after is different from talking about a current team situation
Christian Soldier thank you and Jordan never named any names when he mentioned that he clearly said he had no leadership when he was a rookie that was his whole purpose of bringing that up Horace grant just wants attention
Horace was playing for Orlando during the “Last Dance”. Stop complaining my dude. You won 3 rings because of MJ.
No he didn’t! He won 4 rings and they weren’t all because of “MJ”
you scooper Without Pippen ?

It also shows that he was able to avoid that drug and alcohol culture to achieve greatness.
We immediately bonded like brothers, we started working out together and we just grew and we were inseparable.”
“Michael had a little problem with that. And really, it was more of a problem with him and Horace. Horace and Michael didn’t really see eye-to-eye.
“He believed in everything being equal. And there were days when Michael would play 45 minutes, even 48 minutes, and Horace just didn’t understand.”
“As time passed, my relationship with Horace was still strong, but as Horace became a free agent, he just decided he didn’t want to be here anymore. And my relationship with Michael came a little closer.”
I think Pippen realized that buddying up to Grant who DID wear his heart on his sleeve, and openly feuded with Jordan and Phil Jackson in the clubhouse was not in his best career interests, and it put him at odds with Jordan whom he was trying to emulate.
