    I've done plenty of tire spooning. Glad I bought a motorcycle tire machine. I enjoy the Rokon vids.

    Removing the axle and then using a piece of threaded rod and a hole in the work bench makes it easier and a one person job for removing and installing the tires ;-)

    Nice job. Didn't know that you needed three spoons! I purchased my valve stem supports from Napa and it was a year before I figured out that I installed them wrong. Ha!

    Great video, I want a Rokon too! My Maule bushplane has 31 inch tundra tires that I operate at 7 psi. Anyway with heavy braking the tire spun on the 10 inch wheel and sheared off the valve stem. When I remounted the tires I added contact cement to the wheel and tire beads. Since utilizing the contact cement I have had no problems with tire slippage and disassembling the tires isn’t a problem either. Just a thought. Really enjoyed your video

    Not knocking your video at all. My 2008 Honda 400ex floated across water very nicely also and was able to lightly accelerate and turn. Cool rig!

    • @heartland96a
      @heartland96a 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Honda can do trails and roads , can it climb a steep hill possibly wooded and brushy where no trail exists ,especially in the two wheel model , can the Honda carry its own fuel reserve in its hollow rim ? The Rokon is truly a two wheeled tractor or 2x2x2 the last two are the drivers legs when the going is extreme. They will only do 35mph so your Honda is faster but speed isn't everything.

    Inflate tubs just a little bit when installing to help tubs fit inside of tire. Inflate tub till tire seats on rim, then deflate to desired pressure.

  • @Bshwag

    you could coat the rim on the inside with fluid film its a very long lasting corrosion inhibitor and lubricant

    Great video boys, I know it was many years ago but I’m just seeing it now. And I know flats aren’t a real big deal, but why wouldn’t you put a brand new tube in there? They’re not that expensive, I would’ve done that anyway. Long as you got it apart. New tires New tube 👍

      The most common setup would be to use an outboard motor fuel line and primer bulb/pump.
      Just stick one hose in the bung in the wheel, and the other in the fuel tank, and pump away.

    • @Firemountainoutdoorsreviews
      @Firemountainoutdoorsreviews  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      It could be done... with serious modifications, including cutting, and grinding the frame and welding on a new fork pivot boss(fish mouth), etc...

    What a great video, thanks for showing this. Did you find this change to make the ride softer? What was the reason for going with the tube vs tubeless? I noticed that the aluminum was corroded, when you hear folks talk about water or fuel in the rim, with all that corrosion you would think that would be bad for both your body and the carburetor. Any thoughts on what to do, keep fuel or water in at all times to keep this from happening? Peace, Reese

    Great video! There is one thing I would have done differently. As much work as it is to change the tires, I would have put in new tubes as well. They don't cost that much, and might save a flat way out in the boonies.

    • @bigjay6743
      @bigjay6743 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Absolutely right I would have at least clean the mud and debris off that tube couldn't help but notice that going back in.Cant see that being good for the tubes rubbing against it be like sandpaper.

    I have a 2002 Rokon Trainbreaker (Kohler motor) and suregrup tires that are fairly worn out. Would these Maxix Bighorn tires work for me . . .?? Thanks, great video.

    • @Firemountainoutdoorsreviews
      @Firemountainoutdoorsreviews  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +JamesStaudacher Bighorns will work however you will need a different size. The older Rokons like mine, had 15" drum wheels. I believe many of the 2002 wheels were 12"

    Is it an optical illusion or do the early Rokon models have a taller wheel, I heard you say 15", the new model seems to 13" or 14", am I wrong. Wish we could get these bikes in Australia.

    • @Firemountainoutdoorsreviews
      @Firemountainoutdoorsreviews  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Alf Bittner Correct. In the mid-1970's Rokon began to offer 12" wheels. The older bikes like mine had 15" wheels.

    Thanks for the how to guys! As usual I enjoyed watching your "Show". I have a question concerning the tubes. What size tubes did you use or did you reuse the ones used with the suregrips?

    • @Firemountainoutdoorsreviews

      We reused the sureslip tubes.

    • @Firemountainoutdoorsreviews
      @Firemountainoutdoorsreviews  9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      A new tube would probably be from China and have a stem in a weird spot or configuration, turning into a giant PITA.... And besides, the tubes have been in the dark and not exposed to any UV deterioration...
      Or that's what we told ourselves to justify putting our old junk back in... ;-)

    Got to ask you boys, the new Rokons with front suspension, are the Rokon with front suspension worth the extra money???

    • @Firemountainoutdoorsreviews
      @Firemountainoutdoorsreviews  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Fredrik Johansson they are really amazing. We had the opportunity to go to their factory and watch the building process. Although they are similar to the older bikes they are far more advanced. If I was looking for a Rokon and had the money I would fork over the cash for a new one. If you get a chance to ride one, you'll be sold.

    What, you mean you weren't standing around with a smartphone in your hand watching the AAA guy change your tires?! LOL
    Was curious, since those rims look like they're spun aluminum, could you not have converterted to a tubeless setup, or would you be prone to breaking the tire bead because of the low running pressures you mentioned you use?

    If your useing the rims to carry extra fuel any tricks for getting fuel from rim to tank
    How long does a full tank of fuel last trail rideing ?

    • @Firemountainoutdoorsreviews
      @Firemountainoutdoorsreviews  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Boat outboard motor primer pump in a hose.. One end in the wheel, other in the tank. Pump away.
      Mileage varies. On long, hard, full day rides, the two stroke guys need to take extra fuel. The four strokes seem to run forever on a tank of fuel.

    Seems to me it would be a good idea to paint or seal the alloy wheels. Maybe anodize them? Wouldn't want too much oxidation.
    What about the steel frames? Do people seal the tubing? I could see rusting being an issue. I know I use Boeshield on the steel mountain bike frames.
