3x The Horsepower On Our 2WD Rokon ~ 223cc Wildcat Engine

- Today we do a massive upgrade on our 1999 Rokon 2WD bike. We pull off the under powered Honda GX160 and install a new Wildcat 223cc from EC Carburetors. Before we install this engine we upgrade it with a billet rod that puts us at .000 deck on our piston, performance cam, PZ22 carb kit, 26lbs valve springs, and the charging system and flywheel from a DTV Shredder. We then build a custom stainless exhausts and take it out for a spin. This bike is amazing with the new engine. It is even copiable of doing 2 wheel spin outs!!! Check out the links below.

I've been curious about why I haven't heard more about the Wildcat engines. I bought one quite a while back when they first came out and love it. Stiffer block and side cover, "stroker" crank, good head and electric start. They are great units for the money.
Im excited to start the dyno build series on them. Can't wait to see what they do.

I had a company that build's bike stretch the frame out since i am 6'5" 280 built average size. And they did a dam good job. And i go off roading with friend's all the time.
This bike would fit a pretty big dude. I would say your size would fit on it really nice.
@@RedBeardsGarage On those minibikes u build i would have to have them stretch out cause one of my kid's has one. And i can only just go straight cause trying to stear with my knees against the handlebar's is not easy. My chopper was custom made by a really good friend and it fit's me good. My wife has a little sport's bike and she is 5'5" and it fit's her good. She can reach my handlebar's on mine but her arm's are like straight up. And she has to lean foward good.

Snorkel kit. Get the intake up.
Been using those EC intakes for a while. Probably 20 of them. The cheap vm22s fit right on but I've switched to the Nibbi flanged carbs. So much better.
Looks awesome but as someone with a 98 you are going to want to gusset that frame and add an upper engine mount or that frame is going to fail.
I just heard how people have been braking the frames on these bikes. I will do some reinforcing soon.

Need to take on the boys at cars and cameras drag race. you got the engine smarts and the Dyno .love to see a national organisation as this would encourage builders to improve engines by competition use 👍

Can't help but think that the Juggernaut is a modernized version of that old Salisbury. I have a Salisbury shop manual and they look identical. The Salisbury was the unit of choice for the Harrison Wildcat mini bikes that were built up here in Michigan :D

@@RedBeardsGarage What if you took that transmission on the bike and make a go kart with it and the disk clutch that power sports made years go for the 212cc because it looks like u have to stop to change gears so what if u add the disk clutch
RBG the OEM engine was chosen because it sipped fuel and could go for great distances. Your engine uses 4 times the amount of fuel.
Its 4 times the fun too.
I really would like to see how it does towing weight now, especially on grade. That really is one of the other big performance benefits to the increase.
I have a 2008 Rokon with the stock Kohler cs6 and would like to upgrade the carburetor to something similar and twist throttle is this something worth doing. Great video and upgrade Rokon has really missed out making their product a little bit better, Too bad this engine with your upgrades was available to buy ready to go.
That thing with some paddle tires would be absolutely unstoppable in any kind of mud(unless bottomless pit) lol.
Clean exhaust work! …as usual. Any chance you could share a link for the muffler and maybe a link for the tubing if you happened to be using a tubing assortment kit, please?
The muffler is on rbgkarts.com. I will have the 90 degree bends on there soon.
These bikes are actually really cool and special. I'm pretty sure it's one of only like 3-5 production vehicles to make the complete drive from north America to the bottom of south America and not break to the point it couldn't be repaired.
fingers crossed for that CVT. Seems like it handled the bump in power well enough. Maybe look into a heavier duty belt if ones available?

Could you do an episode of road to horsepower that specifically looks at timing keys for flywheels? I know GPS flywheels come with some advance to the timing. How much is that timing worth vs a cheaper ebay aluminum flywheel? Does a timing offset key make up the difference?
We have it planned to do.
I had a late 70's Rokon that I bought from a rep in Logan Utah, and wanted to love it but it was horribly under-powered, and the engine never ran right. Sold it and bought a Gas Gas.

I can't, for the life of me, find the flywheel anywhere, what would you recommend to use as an alternative. This will be my first SMALL engine build. I have done several vehicle engines, but that gets way too expensive lol
Later years of that bike have some mods for strength the should really be added to this one, fishmouth gusset, rear frame-center tube gussets, top motor mount bracket. I own one that needs these mods done.

ROKON. Sounds like something out of STAR WARS
They have been around since the 1960s at least . During the 1980s they were always advertising in popular mechanics magazine. I never had one but always dreamed of having one . They are expensive and mechanically complex with lots of things to go wrong.
Will that charging system fit a Predator 212cc non hemi? I need it to run my Harley headlight and taillight.

I know that infinite range is part of the rocon concept. But for going slow through the forest I feel like electric would be more suitable, and much more quite. Maybe just strap a small Honda generator on the back.
Noticed that your comparison said the gx160 was 38mm bore . It has a 68mm bore . It’s just a destroked gx200

@@RedBeardsGarage all good ! Those Gx160s are dogs in stock form but they do have a nice 14cc head , if you put a flat top piston ,.010 head gasket , mod2 cam and some 22lb springs they are actually pretty rowdy little engines . That small stroke makes them rev incredibly fast and high .

You can adjust the governor to rev a little higher

Its not on the market right now. I am working on getting them on the market it will just take a little bit of time.

We got it years ago when we was working with them. We should be coming out with that kit soon.

What would be the price for a « finished » Rokon like this one ?
I always thought that a higher RPM range (5 or 6k) would make the Rokon more "utilitarian". Not necessarily for 3rd gear top speed but for a higher speed range in 1st and 2nd so you don't have to change gears so much. @redbeardsgarage give us your thoughts on that. Thanks for doing this build. Great content. It would be interesting to know what the new speed range is in each gear, can you do that?
Yes we will do that in the next video on it. I think you are correct. I do worry about the strength of the gearbox. We will find out its weaknesses.

This is the second time in a video that Red Beard has mentioned and used a high capacity charging system and geared flywheel from DTV Shredder and not included a link to those parts.
There's something questionable about someone who does that.
There is no where to buy them. I can't put a link unless there for sale. We are working on bring them to the market but it will take a little time.
Can you convert a Coleman mini bike to two wheel drive?
That would be worth Red Beard's time- I'd convert my Coleman over to a poor man's Rokon in a hot minute if I knew how. Where my kids and I ride is mostly woods and hills.
I will see what I can do. We have an idea on how to do it pretty easy.

I made it in the shop lol. Just welded some locking collars to a rod of steel. Defiantly not safe in a wreck but gets the job done.
