The rear brake is actually the Miter Box that the drive shaft connects to that runs through the tube to the front miter box. And of course they added a Brake Rotor. And the front miter box also a Break Rotor. The rear miter box will stop both tires, but using both brake levers of course is best. New Rokons cost up to about 10 grand-ish. We had 2 Rokons in our family for years. One of the Big Yellow Trail Breakers from the late 60's to early 70's & one of the Older Rokons with the Spoke Rims. If I ever get another one it will be one of the Older Rokon Trail Breakers. The Big Yellow One with the Suicide 3 speed shifter on the left of the gas tank. 😊
I just bought a 2004 Rokon 3rd hand from my neighbor. Everything exactly like your bike in this video. I didn't think it could really climb up a 60% grade between boulders and large rocks but it didn't have any problem in 2nd gear. I like riding slow through the fields and woods with my wolfdogs. Haven't found anywhere that I can't take it but some places really take cohona's to dare testing it. I'm only 120LB's soaking wet so the bike is heavy to me but, I get so ticked off if I fall that it feels like 40 LB's when I pick it up off the ground. Gonna have to do some elk hunting now since I no longer have an excuse not to. New Rokon's are about $10,000 stock now in 2024 before any extra's or upgrades so I feel very blessed to have gotten one for $2,500 with extra's, a custom trailer, custom saddle bags, extended rack etc.,. Great bike but they are too expensive brand new and I prefer the older models before the front shock and additional chain. People just need to get used to the bike, learn to watch where they're going and stand up on the foot pegs a bit when you're crossing extremely ruff terrain just like when riding a horse. There's a few days learning curve but once you get the feel of it it's just like riding a bike again.
I have had mine for 8 years now. there's a short learning curve in learning to ride this thing, but once you get it, all you do is point it where you what to go. no trails or roads required.
Somebody gave me a 71 Rokon because they found it at an estate auction and thought the bike looked incomplete. It needed a new air filter, spark plug and fuel system cleaning. After that it ran. Pretty lucky. Here in the four corners there are hundreds of miles of trails fit for a Rokon.
A fellow Rokon man did a vid called Rokon tech tips triangle thingy . Well worth your while to watch for a good idea .Also I believe the Rokon has a much lower ground pressure than a man ,knowledge that can be useful . Thanks for the vid.
I wouldn't recommend using those Kevlar helmet for riding those are design to stop shrapnel not riding impact. Nice video I'm planning on getting one of these bike in the next year. I have a quad for fun and I was looking at those for even more fun and also camping. Cheers!
You can change that front headlight to an LED. And you'll get great light then to see. I can't remember if the front headlight assembly is the one where you can just change the bulb or not. If so, then you can get the LED bulb for in it. If not, change that whole headlight assembly. You may find one that will fit the bracket. But in any case if you have to change the bracket out, it's not a hard change. 🙂
Unless you are running very rich carb setting, once a year should do it. A good spark arrester won't hurt power output or performance and is Mandatory and Enforced by citation for good reason. if that Awesome bike you have is puking out of the exhaust something is wrong on the 4 stroke or in need of a good tune.
This thing as half the price of an Argo. Or the same price of a 500 cc Honda 4x4 which is a whole lot more comfortable and quiet! I guess it's a good conversation piece!
It can outrun zombies from the 80's and 90's but these millennial zombies are fucking fast. The Rokon is not a speed demon machine - it's a slow torque monster with a low centre of gravity that will go any where. Great for pulling moose quarters out of the bush. No trails required. I have unfortunately discovered that they are not submersibles.
Yes there are 4-12HP Yanmar engines that are diesel , I have 4HP , 6HP , and 10HP Yanmar clone ,motors , I am going to be building a 6HP Fat Tire mini bike soon with a 6HP , 100+ MPG Sounds like it will be FUN when it's done!
I wouldn't remove the spark arrestor, unless you are just cleaning it. Here if you get caught riding without one, the ranger's call in a helicopter and hoist your bike off the mountain. And then you get a hefty ten thousand dollar fine.
@@Riflechair Those guys are drunk with power (feds) seen em use a probe to check for spark arrester. Also seen em remove the spark plug and make a guy push his rig out of the woods. Don’t cross em they’re assholes.
A 2 wheel drive Rokon will drag that thing around with you on it, like it's a rag doll. Lol! Our Rokon that we had, the Big Yellow one with a 3 speed suicide gear shifter on the left of the gas tank was a beast! Tote about 3,000 lbs. floats on it's side across a river/creek, and as all Rokons are noted for, being stable at 1/2 mph. I've seen a model like ours haul 6 to 8 people, plus logs in the logging industry. 😊 Miss our TOTE GOAT for sure.
Same speed. There's what's called an override spring on the driveline to the front wheel that allows it to freewheel in turns. Acts like a limited slip differential.
They crawl over fallen logs. Enduros's don't. However, one could buy a 500 cc Honda or Yamaha for the same money which are much more comfortable reliable and quite!
I come from an Enduro/Adventure riding background, and these bikes are a completely different animal all together. These bikes are extremely fuel efficient, rugged and are made for working, trail riding and deep exploration, where other bikes simply won’t go. A Rokon will go where only a Billy Goat will dare to tread, and that’s if you have the balls to ride it there. And as others have said… they float too!
The first time I saw this, a nagging voice said I'd seen something very similar long ago. And that proved correct: A 2WD cycle, almost identical to your Rokon Trail-Breaker, was featured in the August 1963 Popular Mechanics magazine, pages 92-94 & 187. The full article with pictures is available online at no charge in the P.M.-Google archive, specifically at: www.tinyurl.com/PM-Aug-63-p92-BillyGoat That cycle (1963 list price $695) had a 10 HP 2-stroke West Bend engine, with a 3-speed transmission and "fluid coupling" - not much detail is given. There are several good pictures, and it's clear that the present Rokon is close descendant of the 1963 bike, also named "Trailbreaker." The name of the manufacturer is given; I don't know if that company is connected to the company now building the Rokon. It's a very interesting look back. Development is said to have taken 5 years. Except for the engine, the overall design has changed little, which speaks to the success of the design. One thing I've wondered about the current Honda 4-cycle engine is what lubrication system the engine uses. Given the angles of the bike and engine while in use, a wet sump with splash oiling wouldn't seem up to the job. Perhaps it uses pressurized oiling, like many Honda engines.
Rokon's been making these since 1958. Sure, they've changed the engine over the years (now Honda makes the engine) and the current version has a suspension for the front tire but it has pretty much staying the same for about 70 years.
Another nick name for the Rokon is: TOTE GOAT. Climbs hillsides like a goat & can tote up to almost 3,000 lbs. 🙂 We had 2 of them in our family for years. TheSchiddy It is better than nothing. If it will stop small arms fire it might stop a stick or rock from breaking my skull. A Styrofoam shell is better than a ballistic helmet? Give your head a shake.
Riflechair Yeah a foam layer covered in fiberglass is much better than a ballistic helmet for impacts with the ground. That's why motorcycle and bicycle helmets are made that way. If you're riding something you're more likely to fall and slam your head into the ground than get hit by small arms fire. They work by slowing the impact of the head down and dispersing energy. Think about it, would you rather drop an egg on the ground inside a pillow or inside a metal bowl? Don't scramble your brain in that ballistics helmet lmao.
That helmet won't do much for you in a serious accident. It's designed for small metal shards moving really fast, not for blunt force. And its heavy AG. Do yourself a favor and get a real motor sports helmet.
If you know how to ride a Rokon, you won't drag your feet at all or very little. And yes, go where a quad or side by side can't go is exactly right.
