    Thank you Ashley 😊 for keeping it simple. Apartments are temporary, in many instances, but places like Atlanta and now Houston can be challenging. A necessities budget makes sense. I found there are simple things you can do to make your home look warm & inviting, chic & sleek, or even upscale depending on your taste. I'm a visionary, have a good eye for details and like refurbishing and creating. This way, i won't break the bank. I've seen some absolutely gorgeous refurbished pieces, art and color schemes posted here. Before those things, plan your colors for living room, kitchen, bedroom and bath. I remember my first apartment. 1 new sofa and matching chair $300; wall to wall carpet in the living room $55; an off white wind chime from Pier 1 $20 coffee table free; vertical blinds on sliding glass door came with the apartment; dining room table, chairs, and table cloth, free; kitchen red black white towel & 2 mittens set $3 dishes free; dish rack set $4; silverware $5; pots & pans $10; ice trays $2; sugar bowl, salt & pepper shaker, oil & vinegar bottles $5; bathroom in a bag $10; bedroom furniture new $425; bedroom in a bag $35. Keeping it simple and within my budget. Your budget may be less, or you may be able to afford a lot more than I did at age 20. Still, it's possible to make your place look beautiful and feel like your own on a strict budget. Plan before you pay.🤗

    I used to think $500 for a couch was a lot until I sat down and did some calculating. Say you're a person who wants to thrift a couch, it may run you about $200.00 or so. On average to get a person to come clean it will be another $200-300. Any who, I love what you did here! Thank you! 🙂b

    You can literally get everything for cheaper from Walmart through their online store, and there are so many cheaper options. Had to furnish out a entire 1 bedroom condo this year when I moved to the US, and managed to do everything for $1,932 whilst buying a lot more than what's on your list, over 60+ items. That's including stuff like a washing machine, vacuum cleaner, 20 pan crockery set, kitchen utensils, study desk, couch, dining table basically everything one would need to live (bar a fridge/freezer, that came with the house). Couch for $500? you can get a brand new one from Walmart for $140 if you go cheapest, $200 for a better quality one. TV stand for $150? bought mine for $35 brand new. So many ways to go cheaper and more affordable than this, whilst keeping it somewhat stylish.

    It takes me like 600-700max to fully furnish my apartment... and thats if i go full out. I find it weird that people scoff at a $2,000 budget like its supposed to be normal to spend 3-5k on furnishing an apartment with basic furniture. I thrift the hell out of everything besides bedding and stuff that should be hygienically clean. Fb-marketplace, antique stores, stores like ross. And my stuff is nice too, decor and everything. Leather couches and all.

    • @ashleysonyea
      @ashleysonyea  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey, yeah that is a pretty good point! In this video, I focused more on the initial things that you need when you first move in and not as much on decor. I did that simply because you can add decor as time goes on but this was the initial investment. However thank you for pointing this out because you do need things like shower curtains and towels, but I do feel you can do a cheaper option for both in the beginning and outfit a bathroom for your basic needs still under the $2000 budget!

    damn. I need to follow your advice on the mattress. I dropped 3k on a king purple mattress and I'm thinking that just might not be my thing at the moment.

      I know purples are nice but I will say it’s been almost a year and we still love our mattress set up!

    Great video! Wish you had mentioned the bathroom though 😭

      I know I can’t lie I forgot about to until afterwards 🙄 but there is still some extra room towards the end of my budget and I think that would be enough to get yourself like a set of towels and some body wash and A shower curtain, just basic things like that for when you first move in!

    Hey, new to Houston myself! can you suggest a couch store in Houston with good deals? We’re thinking furniture Queen but we’d like to look around

      Hey, sadly I have no idea, I just went to Ikea. But if you google furniture discount in Houston you should find something!

    What about the bathroom though?

    • @ashleysonyea
      @ashleysonyea  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I realized after lol, but there is a good amount left in the budget at the end! That should be enough to get a shower curtain, towels, and bath mats to get you started!

    You don’t use a box spring to support the mattress?

    • @ashleysonyea
      @ashleysonyea  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because this mattress was so firm I didn’t find the need to do that, however there are a lot of good ones on Amazon for not that expensive if you want to add one!

    • @ashleysonyea
      @ashleysonyea  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Nicki’s Vlogs I am so glad this helped!! And there are a lot of places you can look at: Marshall’s, TJ Maxx, Home Goods, At Home, and if you were looking for furniture I would search “furniture outlet” near you! I hope this helps. (Also I would love to know if I could have permission post your comment on my Instagram. If it makes you more comfortable I can always block out your picture in your name but your comment was just so sweet I really wanna share it 🥰)

    So in America do most/all apartments already have: fridge freezer, cooker and washing machine then? Because in the uk you would need to buy all of those too. That’s another grand unless you are willing to buy them second hand ie. Craig’s list/

    • @ashleysonyea
      @ashleysonyea  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, most places come with these appliances but not all come with washers it just depends on the place. But if you don’t have a washer in your apartment you couldn’t go buy one and put it in yourself you just don’t have one in your unit.

    When i was an RA I furnished an apt for less $400 between Walmart , dollar tree , Craigslist, letgo/OfferUp and up cycling furniture other tenants had thrown out. I didn’t pay rent and I wasn’t gonna spend money on stuff I wouldn’t have anywhere to put when I moved back home

      I have an apartment tour up on my channel if you would like to see what I got. I spent more than $2000 on my apartment but I just wanted to show an example breakdown in the video of how to budget! I hope this helps
