    View the apartment in the evening during a weekday so you can hear how loud the other occupants in the building are. I learned this the hard way with my current place.

    My biggest tip: Recognize if your family is abusive and get out no matter what the cost is. After moving 4 times in 2 years with my boyfriend we had finally had it and decided to move in with my parents. We've been living here for almost a year now and thanks to him seeing it from an outside perspective I've now realized how abusive my parents are to me. I could go more into details but I won't. What this has made me realize is that my independence from them and my mental wellbeing is worth more than any money I could save by living under their roof.

    Getting a separate account to save is such a great tip to save money. I set mine up so that every time I get paid, a certain amount is automatically transfered to that account and I don't end up spending it. Do this now. Even if it's 20 bucks, it's so helpful. It gives your mind the idea that those 20 dollars were never available for you to spend, so it's a painless and easy way to save.

    Nine notes on what you need to know before signing on the dotted line 1. Credit history good credit with SSN on that check on credit Sesame it’s fine if you have no credit card history 2. Anything you can’t buy 3 times over is too expensive 50 30 20 rule also ask what price of rent includes 3. If you don’t have roommates it’s gonna be expensive and if you want to be in a safe place whatever it is utilities cost 4. Fees ... are evil 5. Save and pre save for deposit 6. Get a roommate 7. Be smart about furnishing spreadsheet for what we already have so you don’t have to buy one ex: I don’t watch tv so why buy one 8. Buy an electric space heater instead 9. Understand your lease agreement and that you can afford it for the long haul

    The problem is, you don't choose how much rent you pay. In NYC, you make 55k a year, and pay $1500 for a room where you live with roommates! This is not even a typical scenario, since most people just don't make this much a year. For anyone to come up and say don't pay more than 30% of your income suggest that you have a choice in the matter, when realistically, you don't! I make 55k a year, and I can't afford to live on my own!

    I dont have credit and im 25. No credit is better than bad credit and a lot of renters let you rent they just have to look at you work history or paystaments to make sure you have consistent income. They also ask for more upfront on the deposit. Its possible guys don't worry. they do the same when you wanna buy a home

My first house I offered was rejected, and I didn’t find a great deal till June and closed July 31st. It takes time and stressful and just a roller coaster ride! Moving and furnishing, be prepared to drop 3-5 thousand $$$ just like that. Phew ... it’s expensive buying a house but it’s worth it if you do it wisely! Oh and it helps to have a good realtor that’s on your side and is positive. Same goes for the mortgage lender. I'm honestly stuck in my rental situation. Its our first apartment on our own and guys. Be careful, for real. We walked right into an LLC, where it's a weekly rental. They advertised it as a "1 bedroom, 1 bathroom apartment". They then claimed it was an efficiency apartment. However, we were only provided with a mini fridge, and a microwave. The unit next to us has a kitchen, and so does a single unit upstairs. I've seen "efficiency" apartments with full kitchens. We do not have drinkable running water, the only running water we have is in our bathroom, where I must do my dishes next to my toilet. I am also suspicious of them turning the "outbuildings" into "motel rooms", as this used to be a motel setting before. I have today myself saw workers moving a TV into one of the rooms, along with a bed. What is this? What is OUR unit? I feel there is a very broad line between "apartment" and "motel". Our unit would be an apartment if it had a kitchen, but they also could have gotten away by a sliver if they had provided us with a bed, a TV, and the fridge and microwave we already have, and called it a motel room. I need help. Like bad. We've had sewage leaks, from the upstairs toilet and bathtub. We were so dumb to walk into this place, and I frankly don't know what to do other than trying to educate myself and to suit up.

      I think leakage is a serious problem and by law they should fix it, try to contact a lawyer and ask them about the situation and what are your options, I rent a place but I want to move because of leakage and mold and I still have 9 months in my contract but they told me I can file a suit and I would win it and that could be the thing that would let your landlord release you, never knew this before speaking to a lawyer, please do! The contract might be not a standard one so it could give you a way out, tell the lawyer all the details

    I have over 4 months rent available but don’t have any credit also my yearly income is barely 25k a year. Should I get an apartment at all?

    • @andreaaafaaaith69
      @andreaaafaaaith69 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Itz Itchy main rule of thumb is your apartment should be 1/3rd of your monthly income so if you have an apartment for 750 you should make 2,250/month or if you have roommates that should be how much you and your roommate make together

      I was interested in buying a house last November. I had to fix my credit and I didn’t prequalify to buy till March. I dropped my first mortgage lender because he made me feel like it was hopeless to fix my credit score to qualify. He was like... even it you pay this or that off, you still may not qualify. I dropped him and the other broker was like... here what you need to do and get done, and they followed up on my Progress . This is such a great video! I'm moving to coralville in a few weeks and just checking things off that I might have forgotten. Completely forgot renter's insurance. It's been a while since living on my own in college, and work had me in hotels for the last couple years.
    One recommendation I would give to renters is knowing the landlord Tennant laws in your specific area. My last apartment management company was from Texas, but owned a building in a state that didn't have the same laws. They ended up getting sued over their lease literally violating the law and their maintenance not posting 24 hours notice. It's important to know your rights, especially when it comes to certain "administrative fees" which may even be illegal in your state, county or city.

      All I gotta say is Cali is expensive asf. Congrats on getting out of toxicity- I got out of abuse at 16 and started living on my own. it’s hard as hell man. I’ll just say that. But if you have a will, there is a way. California is very expensive, but do your research on where you’re going and the cost of living at that part. I believe in you!

    Is it true that for example I want to buy an 8k car and instead of paying 8k right there I should get a loan over a 5 year payment bases and then pay it all off except like $100 so that my credit score goes up over those five years because I paid before the monthly due date? I read that somewhere but I also heard getting loans actually damage your credit because you needed a loan in the first place or something. Thank you!

    • @chiefdan07
      @chiefdan07 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Credit always goes down when you get a loan since the lender will do a hard inquiry on your credit, but your score will rebound in a few months
