I’m going over ALL the things I regret buying for my first apartment or what I wish I could do over again.
It will help you when moving into your own first apartment know what’s necessary to buy and what isn’t so necessary to buy.
I thought and researched everything before buying it that there I didn't make any “stupid” purchases. HOWEVER, I'm learning that there are areas of my apartment that I could have done things cheaper or more efficiently.
Majority of these things I’ve learned that I could have done more efficiently, came from the comments so I would love for you to add any of your own helpful tips to the comments.

I wouldn’t say I regret any specific item, but I REALLY regretted not purging as much unnecessary things as possible before I moved. I had bought all these storage shelves and book shelves to store these things and then when I got rid of literally 60% of my stuff I realized I had all this furniture I no longer needed. Pro tip: declutter the crap out of your belongings BEFORE moving. Youll be happy you did.
Thats exactly what Im doing now. I wanted to go crazy beforehand but I'm like no, because once I get in and really settle. I will prob want to change it and overthink. Literally going to wait until i move in and tread slow so i don't buy unnecessary things. I'm very impulsive and to buy for one room at a time. I like what she said about buying cheap first then seeing what I use and dont use.
I'm watching her videos and 2x speed and I noticed I can focus better. 😃

If you need more Tupperware, get glass ones! They last so much longer and you can microwave them. Costco usually has nice sets of glass ones for like $19.99!! :)
I definitely need to check Costco!! I don't know why I haven't thought of that before!
Just so you know, tupperware is a brand.do not know uf they still sell them. You could only get it at tuperware partys.

Moving your clothes on hangers is EASY if you use trash bags as garment bags
As someone who's worked retail, if you need boxes go to your mall! Often times stores would get a shipment and have a TONNNNN of boxes & honestly we were always willing to give them away. (One less thing to worry about in the store)

I bought an "expensive" set of flatware and am thoroughly pleased with my decision! It's been 35 yrs now and their still going strong, not an issue with anything. They're a classic design (can go traditional or modern) from Mikasa purchased at Macy's, I will be passing them on to my grandchildren : ) So don't despair Sophia, the only thing I would be unsure of is the 'Gold' color. "Tupperware" ideas: Reuse yogurt, cottage cheese, butter containers that have good lids and they're free with purchase of the item. My firm suggestion for anyone starting out is to buy quality, it will last so long it will amaze you. I have towels 30 yrs old and just now starting to look their age. But don't buy expensive just because it costs a lot, buy quality -- value.
Kinda late to this video but I hope someone sees this! A really great place to get boxes is shoe stores. I work at a shoes store and we throw away at least 50 moving-sized boxes a week. If you go in and ask one of the workers they will probably just give them to you!
Lol I moved into my first apartment recently and was saving all my amazon boxes and other package boxes and my moms boxes and I had duffle bags . I was not willing to spend money on boxes. But also you can go to the grocery store and ask for the boxes and they give them to you for free. My friend did that with their move. Also when I moved I switched the type of WiFi I was going for and now saving $17 a month and I’m getting higher speed with Disney+ for free for a whole year.

we also got our moving boxes from stores who were going to throw them away.
@@ihateyouall7026 hey, so I had Verizon and was paying $58 for 100/100 but the building I was moving to and Verizon both didn’t support 100/100 and the lady said I had to switch to 200/200 and it would put me at $39.99 for a whole year or two. I’m not sure how long but it also came with Disney + free for a year. It was in may or June when they were having a special. Gotta catch when they have their specials to change the plans because sometimes “you need an update”.

Another great way to get Tupperware is saving (and washing) plastic take-out boxes and any plastic containers that your food comes in in the grocery store! (Like sandwich meats often come in plastic containers) it’s a great way to save money cause you already bought the item and it helps reduce waste!! It’s also great if you want to package food for your friends cause you don’t need to ask for it back cause you didn’t buy them!!
You can get free boxes at liquor stores also! It’s really nice for wine glasses or other glassware because they come with separators

9:58 When the parchment paper runs out you should get a silicon baking mat. They last basically forever, seriously cut down on waste, save tons of money in the long run and as long as you get the right size they will perfectly fit your tray!

Sorry if this makes you feel uneasy, but with that security stick thing that you put on your door, I had one on the front door to keep our roommate that did not pay rent out of the house once he “unofficially”officially moved out. And one day he came back and tried to use his key to open the front door and obviously didn’t work because that stick was on it, but with him ramming into the door a good hard three times he was able to still bust in and he also broke the security chain lock off the door as well

My dad has always used plain two by fours that he sort of creates into these jams to keep windows shut (like for long term use if you're locking up a cottage for the winter). I've never seen one like this for a home. That's awesome!

You do not need to buy boxes. .... stores give them away for free everyday, but liquor store boxes are usually best quality in my experience.

You can also get some boxes for moving for free from workplaces, because they need to get rid of shipping boxes for work equipment/supplies. For example, I work at a hospital & we are constantly dealing w/ boxes of medical supplies & equipment.

In the Netherlands we have baking paper ( parchment paper? We call it baking paper) that has already been cut in those rolls and it's super cheap, like 0.90 cents for 30 sheets! We use it all the time!

Thanks for the video! Also, I know some places like the chinese restaurant near me always delivers food in black Tupperware containers with clear lids so not throwing them away, and saving a handful can come in handy :)

You can get boxes from clothing stores for free, if you call them at the right time they may can hold them for you. Like Burke’s Outlet
for boxes, where I live you can go to some smaller grocery stores and get them for free and there are multiple sizes.
I've had foam mattresses for years. So under-rated! Easy to move too!!

I have a good tip for acquiring good boxes for free: If your local grocery stores meat department offers "Smart Chicken" brand chicken (most do), call them everyday to request setting the boxes aside for you. By far, the best cardboard boxes for moving. They can hold up to 30 pounds (possibly more), *no tape needed*, have built in handles, glued sides/corners, they're all the same size, and stack easily.
If you want cable, just get Sling TV. You can also do stuff like Hulu Live.

I used to work in the bakery section at fred meyer and i gave out boxes for free there all the time, probably true of any grocery store :) just don't go too late or we will have thrown them away already

For boxes you can get new ones at Walmart for a dollar or go to groceries stores and get their boxes for free.
can you do how to decorate a really small place like a dorm/shared apt?
Buy nice looking pieces such as curtains, pillows, throws, wall decor, vertical storage, etc.

Biggest regret purchase: brand new couches. I have 2 cats that are not declawed (and never will be). I got a woven material couch and yea.. it was a big scratching post to them. I will never spend thousands on new couches again and will always just find nice and clean used ones. I love my fur babies too much to ban them from being on my furniture (or chopping their paws up).
my mom got rid of our cat because he always scratched up our leather couches. im so glad you treat your furbabies right, they got a great parent

Do you know that if you lock the door and leave the key horizontally in it , no one can get in, cause they cant push that key out to try with their utensils opening the door ? Or get a security door

If you’re moving go get free moving boxes from stores. Ulta (my store atleast), will happily give people boxes to move if you need them! Don’t pay for cardboard you’re going to throw away!!!!

I regret buying a lot more dishes and cups and plates than I needed for a single person apartment, it’s extremely cluttered and I had to sell some of them bc it was just me, and I didn’t need to feed 40 people so like a cheap pack of plates cups and stuff l would recommend.

In Roku TV there’s a channel of all live cable channels. For free
I wanna get the security bar but what happens if there's a fire or something happens and the police/firefighters, etc. need to get in but they can't cause of it?
They'll come in through the window if its a fireman. Trust me, they'll bust in if they need to.
I bought all my silverware at Walmart a pack on sale. And some from the dollar store. I got cups bowls and plates at the dollar store. and Walmarts 50 cent sales
I work at Martin's it is a grocery store and you can get them for free just have to ask the store to get them

I bought a set of gold utensils from CB2 and they've all faded to silver - def would not recommend.
That's what I was worried about with gold silverware!! Luckily mine has faded at all but I was looking at a lot of other brands and a ton of comments mentioned that!

i work in retail and that’s where i’m getting my moving boxes from. We get shipment at least 2-3 times a week as most retail places do so you can always go to the mall and ask if they have any spare boxes.
