    I'm thinking about purchasing the Blue Cambridge Turquoise for myself this Christmas, and i am also thinking about having the front cover imprinted with "Psalm 12:6-7".

    Beautiful Bible, Cambridge knows how to compete with others🙂

    The glossy paper used by CBP is what keeps me away from their Bibles. Would love to have an all black letter in the Turquoise Bible, but am making do with the calf split leather (I prefer the calf split leather bc it doesn't sag, it gives support to the text block) Turquoise red letter from Evangelical Bible. Would be nice if there was a choice for an all black letter Turquoise. I very much like how you do a comparison of Bibles. You don't see that in most other Bible review channels.

    The extra leading between lines is what I like most about the Turquoise

      That's one of the things that draws me to it too.

    If comparing Cambridge KJV Turquoise and Cambridge KJV Large Print, which one has larger font size and which one is better readable?

    • @BibleBuyingGuide
      @BibleBuyingGuide  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The fonts are exactly the same. The difference is the Large Print is 1/4 inch wider per column because it doesn't have center-column references. Also, the text for the Large Print doesn't have reference keys, so it's a touch smoother.

    You can still get Cambridge bibles on Amazon in calfskin or calfsplit
    NOT on evangelical bible which ONLY does floppy goatskin and DOES NOT open as well with edge liner as I understand it.

    Hi Randy. In this Turquoise Bible review you mentioned that the paper is opaque and really good quality but what is the texture feel to the paper? Like is it that shiny, waxy coated slick feel or is it a slight grainy feel to it.

    • @BibleBuyingGuide
      @BibleBuyingGuide  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Sylvia. I cover it in detail in the written review (my written reviews are my main reviews). Here's the info:
      The paper is 28gsm Indopaque from Papeteries du Léman, Thonon-les-Bains, France. It has an ivory color and is extremely opaque - which is especially impressive considering how thin it is. To my fingers though, it feels thicker than the 30+gsm in the Concord. It has no glare or shine under direct light. I love the color of this paper. It’s white without being too bright, and it isn’t so off-white that it looks dirty, gray, or yellow. This is my favorite color for Bible paper. It makes me want to read it.
      Even though it’s 28gsm, I had no issues turning pages. The paper is smooth but still has enough texture that I can separate the pages easily with one hand. The page edges are art-gilt with blue under gold. The blue looks great while reading.

    I currently have 3 Cambridge "Turquoise" bibles from the 2005-2008 era (one with French Moroccan Leather and 2 black goatskin). In the early part of this time period I had to return 2 French Moroccan versions which I had wore out and the hinges broke on them so that the cover came apart from the front of the bible. Baker publishing replaced one (which is the one I currently have) and gave me a refund on the other which I used to buy the goatskin covered version which I now have. The first goatskin version had an issue where the pages on the bottom rubbed against the inside corner where the cover is folded back causing quite a mess on the inside and outside pages at the bottom of the bible! Plus the plastic/synthetic inner cover liner is falling apart. I tried to trim the pages to alleviate the problem to no avail. So I became kind of annoyed with Cambridge bibles and started looking for alternatives. But I kept the Bibles as it was becoming apparent that they were going out of print. I kept the one goatskin in almost new condition as my backup bible. The other with the frayed pages from rubbing the corners I still use a lot. About that time Cambridge stopped printing the "turquoise" bible altogether and I figured that was it. So I started looking for other KJV Bibles.
    R L Alan seemed the best alternative, but I have a few issues with their KJVs. Primarily I don't like their comments saying that older and better manuscripts suggest otherwise than what KJV says. Well if I believed that then I would be reading those versions. Also they don't show the italics which identify where words were added to improve the translation. I am not going to pay $200 for a bible to tell me that its translation is out of date and inferior to others. Plus at that time (around 2009) the print quality on the RL Alan longprimer bibles I was looking at wasn't that good. It has improved a lot since. It seemed quite faded out compared to the Cambridge print quality.
    On the issue of RL Alan's comments I have done a lot of study on this issue of bible versions and have made up my mind as to what I believe. Also when I initially was saved I struggled to read the Bible using the NIV as I succumbed to the modern bible translation ideal that as more and more study and manuscripts became available the Greek and Hebrew supporting texts needed to be continually tweaked through textual criticism by modern secular bible scholars as they approached nearer and nearer to the actual inspired word of God. But God seeing my struggles suggested that I read the old archaic KJV and suddenly my bible reading improved and I began to steadily grow in the Word of God. Now I don't want to get into an argument about this, if God has shown you that the NLT or RSV or ESV is the version for you then far be it from me to argue with your communications with the Spirit of the Living God!!
    So finally I turned to LCBP which printed only the KJV bibles and for a period of time I began to use their "standard" bible as it had a font which is near to the Turquoise and actually bolder. I really seem to find the readability of the print in my LCBP "standard" version 180 S1B to be my favorite as I always seem to gravitate back to it when I have been reading a while and these tired old eyes begin to strain. Also I like the converience/size of the hand sized bible It seems readability is improved by the text only print with no references or notes to distract. Of course now with the CBP - LCBP splitup this version only seems available from LCBP and is currently out of stock.
    Currently I use the printed bibles for reading primarily and I do read a lot covering on the average 30, 40, 50, up to 90 pages a day. Reading sequentially through the OT the first half of the month and the NT the 2nd half. There have been great benefits from all this reading especially in understanding doctrine and the condition of Christianity today. I also spend a significant amount of time in prayer, seeking God's face, calling on the name of the Lord and so on.
    For bible study I use e-Sword on my PC and MySword on my cell phone. What I am getting at here is that I don't use the study aides of these bibles all that much. I actually use the MySword App on my phone the most as it is very well designed and faster than using e-Sword on the PC. I have among others the following bible versions on them both: KJV, KJV+, ESV, NASB, NIV NKJV, NLT, and others. I have a lot of commentaries on both but I find myself primarily using Gill, Calvin, Matthew Henry, Barnes, and occasionally some of the otheres.
    I find myself using the MySword App on my phone for study and cross referencing. So basically all I need to do full Bible study is a pair of glasses, my handsized LCBP Bible and my cell phone. TSK (Treasury of Scriptural Knowledge) is best for cross referencing and available directly from a scripture. Using compare and parallel to analyze between various bible versions is good for a quick check on word definitions. And the KJV+ with Strong's references is good for detailed word analysis. Numerous commentaries are available including Calvin, Gill, Henry, JFB, Barnes, TSK. and many others (20) such as Peoples', Pulpit and so on. Also I have about 15 dictionaries including ISBE, Nave, Torrey, Webster, Strong, Thayer, BDB, KJC, and so on.
    So all I need to do pretty much anything I want to do in regards to reading the bible or bible study is carry my hand sized bible and my cell phone. Actually all I really need is my cell phone as it is really pretty pleasant to read the bible on MySword with the screen on my phone showing about 2/3s of one column from my bible. In fact it would seem that these beautiful bibles may soon succumb to the inevitable march of "progress" as it obliterates everything held sacred before it.
    There is a part of me that desires gorgeous bibles as the new Cambridge Turquoise or an RL Alan or Schuyler. Red under gold art gilt page edging. Goatskin covers of multiple colors lined with leather even in matching colors. And of course there is the smorgasbord of translations - something to please almost everyone. These bibles dress up the Christian as clothes and jewelry does accent. I wonder what Jesus thinks of all these fancy bibles and all their various translations? After all Jesus is the Word of God. I wonder what he thinks of all these various translations being produced in secular universities and publishing companies all being made for a profit. I wonder what he thinks of those whose profession is textual criticism who lead secular lifes and are really not much interested in knowing him? I think I have an answer: Mat_23:33 Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?
    Of all these beautiful bibles which look as if they have hardly ever been used? Of their owners which spend infinite hours admiring and examining various bibles but don't understand even the most fundamental of doctrines. I am not accusing anyone but if the the shoe fits......
    So there is my take on beautiful bibles and yet I am sure I will still lust after one of the Cambridge Turquoise KJV bibles in brown goatskin with its gold over red art gilt edged borders and so on. But definitely not an RL Alan!

    Now that you reviewed the blue, if you had to buy one,would you get the blue or black? I like the blue, but would liked it better if the art guilt was blue under silver. I like black bibles too.

    Can you confirm something from the Cambridge Turquoise Bible. As from the CBP Turquoise bible there is some words that should be two words but put together as one. Here are examples of no spaces.
    ( Jer 4:22 "havenone" understanding)
    ( Dan 1:21 unto "thefirst" year of king Cyrus")
    I don't know it's an issue with CBP or just the Turquoise text in general

    • @BibleBuyingGuide
      @BibleBuyingGuide  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      This is common to the Turquise and several other old Cambridge editions. They were typeset by hand and they sometimes set words too close together to get them to fit on a single line.

    1 What do you think about the end pages, are they very plasticky? 2 Are the maps part of the original printing, or have they been added in later, before binding? Thanks.

    • @BibleBuyingGuide
      @BibleBuyingGuide  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. 1. The end pages are vinyl-coated where they touch the liner but the rest are regular thick paper that is not plasticky (which I find is great for notes). 2. The maps (and index) are added later. They're also thick pages, but they're smoother than the end sheets.

    I am probably in the minority, but I bought this bible but was not all that impressed with it. It was my first Cambridge purchase, but I found the font inferior to the Thomas Nelson premier KJV. I ended up returning it.

    I was reading a review on Amazon for the Cambridge Turquoise Bible, and the reviewer noted some typos in his copy of the book. Would you be able to take a look at the following verses in your copy to see if the typos are also apparent?
    Luke 11:53 the work "proyoke" instead of "provoke.
    Luke 6:6 "righthand" run on
    Luke 8:1 "wentthroughout" run on
    Phil 4:13 "strengthenme" run on

    • @BibleBuyingGuide
      @BibleBuyingGuide  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It does have the typo in Lk 11:53. It matches the rest as well, but they're not actually typos. It was typeset by hand and they were done on purpose to get as much text on the line as possible. This is typical for the Turquoise and several other of the Cambridge editions that were typeset around the same time (around 100 years ago).

      They're almost identical. The Topaz grain is slightly deeper, but it's barely noticeable. Everything else is the same.

    I quite like your videos. Viewing this one to compare to the Handsize Turqouise I purchased from CBP. I really love the CBP Ironed Calfskin Turquoise, which is affordable for me. The Cambridge goatskin might be out of my price range, but it looks wonderful! Thanks for sharing.

      Goatskin is not the only Cambridge Turquoise binding option. You can also get their ‘calfsplit’ leather edition for a lot less money. Too late for you, I realise, but for people new to this review it’s worth noting - with many Cambridge Premium KJVs - there is a cheaper calfsplit option. It’s not all goat, goat, goat.

    I am deciding between buying the Cambridge turquoise or the schuyler canterbury. I can't decide which one to buy! In your honest opinion which bible do you prefer and why? Is the digital font on the schuyler easy to read?

    • @BibleBuyingGuide
      @BibleBuyingGuide  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The digital font is excellent. I can't choose between them because they both have their advantages. The Canterbury has much thicker paper and it has a glossary in the back. I also like the paper for notes and Psalms in a single column. The section headings help when you're looking for something. The Canterbury looks more elegant. The Turquoise is a touch lighter and easier to carry, and it has the translators footnotes.

    • @wordoflife2823

      Bible Buying Guide So either bible I choose I will love I take it. I think I will choose the Cambridge turquoise because I just love a bible with Christ words in red. Do you happen to know the exact poundage of the canterbury? I can't find it anywhere.

    • @BibleBuyingGuide
      @BibleBuyingGuide  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Canterbury is 3 lbs. The Turquoise is 2lbs 6oz.

      Bible Buying Guide oh okay thank you the canterbury isnt really that much heavier than the turquoise. I was thinking it was like study bible heavy. I have a study bible and it weighs close to 4 pounds and hard to hold in my hands and read it.

      Glen Converse church bible publishers is a ministry. For the cost of what you get they are pretty amazing and shouldn't be compared to bibles that cost double what theirs go for.
      Their version of the turquoise is amazing and their quality is comparable to Cambridge. For a bible that cost a fraction of the price of a Cambridge is pretty amazing
