Rather than looking primarily for traffic tickets you can leave and unlock bicycle in a high traffic area and wait for someone to steal it you can reel in the criminals left and right all day now just imagine if 90% of the patrol officers were doing that throughout their shift
I've work as a social counseler with abused child and i'm a FF.. The "see things" part is so true. The hardest part is constantly witnessing people at their worst.. But remember, you have the potential to be their first step from worst to best. Stay safe, be brave. Good work guys
Congrats! Nervousness means you care👍 The body reacts to nervousness and excitement the same way, so state “I’m excited!” Rehearse scenarios in your mind, seek continuous training, do things that make you step out of your comfort zone (ie stepping up on big calls), and take care of your mind and body every day. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask. Be well and do great out there! 👍💪
I’m about to graduate with my accounting degree after the fall semester. As I was sitting there applying for internships, I realized that I DON’T want to sit in a cubicle all day every day. Then i randomly got an ad for the PD and I think…it’s what I want to do
Just do it. Don’t even question it. I have sat behind a desk and made a lot of money and I hated every minute of it. I got into software because it was the thing to do in those days I got forced into it. After almost 24 years I am done. I have always been a physical person doing boxing judo and BJJ all my life and I want to get out of this rut I am in. So the sooner you realize this about yourself just go do it and do t look back brother.
Thanks for making this video, I’m a 17 year old and my father and grandfather were both cops, I’m still not sure this is the career path for me but I’m leaning towards it, the info helped a lot
A comedy actress here in Europe explained at age around 40 she experienced a personal transformation changing her mindset from "stressful" to "happy" state of mind...or from hustling to calm. It has a lot of health advantages for your mind and body when you are living happily in the present moment and meeting friends who have the same philosophy of happiness empathy gratitude. She is single though. Her father is also her role model in a sense of humor and not taking life too seriously. The only disadvantage of living "happily" in the present moment, not living in the past is that you may have to start problems with your memory. That you feel so happy at the moment enjoying time, that when someone asks you, what were you doing in the morning, she doesn't remember because she partially loses track of time and also because she stops living in linear time. After 5 minutes of thinking she actually remembers what she was doing but it takes time. That her only priority started to be whether people felt happy in her presence that day. But it seems if half of society will live in this happy state of mind and gratitude for each other in the community the cops would have much less work because they wouldn't suffer from anxiety and depression. Being happy at the moment may affect your memory sometimes. or you remember the good things.
Great video. I retired from the “job” in 2021 after 35 years 4 months. All at the rank of officer. I worked K9/gangs/SWAT/Air Support/street crimes/Rapid Response Team (crowd control). My favorite was good old uniform patrol. My motto was 3 fold: We are doing the Good Lord’s work, we will always be the good guys and they will always need us. I loved the job and I never let the enthusiasm flame blow out. Thank you for encouraging potential new officers. God bless.
Thanks for taking the time to comment sir. 35 years and 4 months, and with enthusiasm....OUTSTANDING! Whatever you're doing now for the next chapter, wish you the absolute best!
I don’t care how tired. I don’t care how difficult it is. I don’t care how long it takes. I want to be a police officer. I want to serve. I want to help. I am a Marine, this is my calling.
It's a boring fucking job most suitable for people with slightly below average intelligence. You're making it out to be the biggest deal on the planet, but it's just working for a living and you're going to have to work with people who are sick, disturbed and pathologically arrogant. I'm not talking about criminals. I'm talking about working with fucking COPS.
Dude... Do something better with your life. I recommend don't become a police officer. But hey, it's your life. It use to be an honor to become a police officer; today, it has become an embarrassment and a disgrace. Many police officers have brought shame and disgrace to The Badge. I personally would not recommend anybody to become a police officer for nothing.
@The10CodeMindset Well you feel that strongly about it then go for it, that's the way I was back in the day, and I was lucky enough to get the opportunity. If you do manage to get hired, I would like to hear from you in about 7 years which is when the burn out usually starts. But by then you might have a family that you need to support, which makes it much more difficult to walk away. Good luck.
Starting my 19th year in this field. It's changed so much since 2005. It was frustrating at times back then, but I would have done it for free. Now, I cannot wait for retirement and to get away from this vicious cycle called "the system". The system that cares not for the victim, but for the offender. The system that now hides in the grass just waiting to put an Officer in prison. To all of the new kids getting into this profession, take care of YOURSELF first. This job turned into something I never thought it would. Best of lluck
I started in ‘07, left in 2022, and was amazed how much things had changed in just 15 years. I equate law enforcement to real estate now, “Location. Location. Location.” I live in a location where the Sheriff and the police make it clear they will do their best to catch those who need to be caught, those traveling and commit certain crimes are held until they see a judge, and the local courts actually believe in sentencing if defendants are found guilty. You take care of yourself. If showing up for the job becomes too stressing on your health (and retirement is still several years away) there is no shame in pursuing a new opportunity.
@@joneseyyy super interested in joining once I graduate college in a year and a half, figured I’d asked, what’s the most difficult part so far and what’s something I should focus on before going in?
Thanks for this video! I just got out of the corps back in July. I’ve wanted to be a police officer my whole life and I had the opportunity to work with PMO for about 8 months while I was in and I loved it. I’m just going to college rn studying criminal justice.. might as well get my degree since I get to go for free, once I’m 7months out from getting my degree I’m going to apply everywhere. I feel being a police officer is my calling and I love everything about it.
I am 17 years old and i was thinking about going into law enforcement and this video definitely made me make up my mind. I think i want to be a police officer.Thank you for this video and thank you for your service
When I was 17 a couple of years back, law enforcement was all I thought about. Being a uniform beat copper is not the place to be even though that's what I used to tbink.. if you really want to pursue a law enforcement career get a degree in a field that could be applicable and go federal. If I had it to do over again I would apply to the US Marshall's, but that's just me.
I'm so thankful I found your channel. I've been feeling called to serve my community and struggling with fulfillment at my current job. I've decided to get into good shape and will be applying to my local departments. I really appreciate your content and can't wait to soak up more.
@@The10CodeMindset I have not. I saw one of my local PD's has suspended them since COVID started. But I definitely want to. I'm gonna look into the other PD's and see if they do currently. Thanks for the recommendation!
Im from San Francisco.. & I do wanna become a cop.. I definitely want to be considered a real hero. For the community & definitely for my son. I can’t wait to join the academy!!!
That's awesome you feel called to do it, especially in San Francisco. At least they're refunding the police now lol If I misunderstood your perspective then I apologize, but go in it with the intention of doing the right thing for those who call and catching those who need to be caught when crime is committed. Avoid seeking hero status. I worked with some of them who wanted the accolades and hero awards...they weren't well liked.
I appreciate this video. I am not a Police Officer, but I am currently military police, and even though I have times where I just want to take a break from law enforcement, I've always loved it. I fully plan on joining a PD somewhere when I get out of the military.
Thank you so much I’m in jr high and I have always been interested in becoming a cop so I decided to look more into so when I get into high school I can start working towards it more!
2:00 "A high five from a child or when someone buys you a meal in the drive through" you are such an angel god bless you & everyone you love thank you for letting us travel in time wow we will keep paying it forward to the best of our ability every second is so amazing thank you tak sa myket tak tak vacker engel: 10 Code Mind Set
Very informative, Im trying to explore my options without dipping my toes in every pond. the paradox of choice is something I am struggling with however thank you !
Thanks for all you've done and all you do for incoming officers, graduating college next year so I can try and get into some of the pickier departments and will be applying about halfway through the year then, nervous but excited to help people and be the kind of Officer that moves people's perception of police in a positive direction. Thanks for being awesome, this helped a lot
I appreciate the compliment Noah, and best wishes to you pursuing the police officer job. Helping to change people's perspective, one interaction at a time is noble. Do good and stay vigilant when you finally get out there on the road...whenever that may be.
You got this! If I can be of assistance along the way don’t hesitate to reach out 👍If this video could also help as well, view it: th-cam.com/video/GKVC8SmtVbo/w-d-xo.html
@@yung-megafone it’s not boot camp. You can get on the internet. I believe it’s like a full time job. Your doing training stuff for 8 hours a day or more and then you have a life after that
I’m not working in it anymore for now. Thank you for the compliment and you’re right. More power to the good guys! And for the haters. I don’t mean literal power, I mean more support and well-being 😄
Unfortunately there will always be bad cops, but for the many good cops out there doing the right thing, we must support them because there will be people calling 911 and we need the right people showing up. Thank you for your heartfelt words.
2:30 yup your work comes back to you, because of you we get to see reality in the present create the past *you created*: with these jewels of being time ladies & lords using facts consistency & chivalry, it is so sparkling & pure & wholesome & always new & true, but also wild & free with people learning without being hurt or hurting others by surprise it is so amazing safety is created you create safety sir
Thanks for the informative video on this. I've been considering LE since high school and went into EMS till I made up my mind. Recently got offered a gig in the town I live in and have been heavily considering it. Your video has given me a lot to think about. Thanks.
thank you for your service to the corp. I agree...Street patrol is very demanding and much much...different than other positions in law enforcement.. Its not just enforcing the laws, its about being part of the community, and serving that community. The odd hours, working holidays, shift work, PAPERWORK, and being subpoena to court are all part of being a local....And most people do not want to handle that kind of liability or responsibility. In that sense, than yea its probably just better to transition to be a reserve police officer or go work for corporate America. I came from local than went on to to become a fed with one of the three letter agencies. It is so much slower and stagnant on the federal side...It honestly feels like working for corporate America, but you have a badge and a gun lol. Anyways, subscribed to your channel.
I wanna be a cop, as soon as I finish highschool; so in 2 years, after then Im gonna enlist in the millitary. This video was very useful! Im very excited.
Semper Fi, I am an active duty Marine looking to retire shortly. I want to continue to serve my community. The biggest thing I’m trying to figure out: Is it, or is it not, recommended to be a police officer in the same city you live in?
Semper Fi brother, that’s a good question. Me personally, I did not work in the city where I lived. I did for my first year and did not like it, at all. Considering where I worked was the city where I was born and raised, yeah, had to move. Lol Just my opinion.
Considering going into Law enforcement. Currently full-time FF/EMT in a rural county and I also have some urban experience. Going on 4+ years of public safety. Would that experience help with my resume and application ?
You and I both know some cops would be yelling at you, "STAY WITH FF"!!!! I say if you feel the call to go LEO and do your research about the department(s) you want to join, then go for it. Yes, in my opinion, that experience you have will help in some areas of the job. Best wishes to you!
I can do that. 👍 Must throw in remembering laws and showing respect even when crap hits the fan. But yes, give me a few weeks and I’ll figure out something 👍
It’s a lot to think about for sure, and a big commitment…if you haven’t been on a ride along yet, I would recommend it. I can’t remember if I stated that in the video 😄 I was sold after my first ride-along. Take care!
I’m a Victim Services crisis counselor in a major Texas city. Getting to work alongside y’all has shown me I want to become an officer. That paperwork tho lol
Don’t even get me started on the paperwork 😄 That’s awesome though you have felt the calling! Having worked in victim services will really be an advantage for you and the victims you encounter on scene. 👍 Best wishes to you Cody. A friend of mine just retired back in January from a major city in TX, San Antonio. Ernie Stevens. But I understand if you can’t/don’t want to disclose where you are.
@@The10CodeMindset thanks bud! I’m really excited to be at the intersection of mental health and law enforcement. I used to be a crisis counselor in SA but I don’t recognize the name. I’m glad he made it to retirement though! I’m up in Austin right now which seems like a good city to be an officer right now
Excellent video, your info is spot on. The best book I ever read is; “The Job, True Tales From The Life of a New York City Cop” by Steve Osborne. I retired in ‘97, am proud of my 30 yrs on the street and still have lunch every week w/my retired buddies. Leaving in a few minutes to meet them at our American Legion post. I saw my share of action to include three on duty self defense shootings, but my most common injury was writer’s cramp from filling out all those reports.
I appreciate the compliment about the video. My neighbor is retired NYPD and the stories he has, WOW. That’s great you’ve stayed in touch with fellow officers all these years later.
Everything he touched on is 100% correct. Im 25 years in and im waiting to see what this last contract is going to offer, if its not good, im putting in my papers. It used to be enjoyable, but its time to go. Ive never seen so many of us having heart problems while still on the job, and dieing 5 years after retirement.
Appreciate you being transparent about the pros and cons. I’m kind of curious about being a police officer. Im 5 feet so not very tall would that be an issue being hired as a cop?
I’m so torn between two careers. I’ve been working towards becoming a commercial airline pilot for the past few years, but recently got involved with police explorers program and am learning it’s something I really like. So many pros and cons, I’m already deep into flying but I don’t enjoy the 3-4 days away from home schedule, or the relative inactivity of flying fixed wing. I’ve been immensely researching the job and know the negatives. I guess my biggest concerns are the mental & physical tolls, and danger of the job. I feel like I won’t really know how I’ll handle it until I actually do it, because scenarios are not the same as real life. I’ve been thinking about it nonstop for the past couple months, it’s like no matter how much I convince myself piloting is a better career… law enforcement career finds a way to sneak back into my life and make me second guess myself
Thanks for sharing this! Very true about being away from home. What about joining a big agency that has a helicopter, or heck, I was on a call one time assisting the DEA and they had a plane in the sky watching the suspect. So the law enforcement pilot option?
@@The10CodeMindset That’s what I have been considering. The department in an explorer with has a very robust aviation unit, including airplanes and helicopters, but of course I would have to do time in the jails and streets before that, which I personally wouldn’t mind. Im using the connections from the explorers to try to get a helicopter ride a long & regular ride along. The other thing I think about a lot though is the pay difference. I live in CA so it’s not cheap and commercial aviation pays a lot more. This is mostly an issue with my dad though because I know he would prefer me not get into LE so I don’t really know how or what to tell him
I’ve been thinking about being a police officer for years. I really believe I would love the work. I just really don’t know if I can handle the mental stress. Are you able to work through things and show up the next day at the top of your game? I have a really good career and am on a good path but I can’t stop wanting to be a police officer. I don’t want to destroy my mental health for a career I had no business being in to begin with. Any advice would be great and I appreciate this video!
I understand. Take care of your mental health just as bad as you want to be a police officer and it can only help you and the public because they deserve a good cop when 911 is called. Get into it for the right reasons, never stop learning on the job, and growing your mental and physical strength. After 9 years on the job and I figured it out, game changer. Best wishes to you Wyatt. Not saying you won't be affected, but active and consistent mental health awareness and action helps.
Thank you for your video. I always want to be a police officer from a child, but I didn’t want to due to my whole surrounding. Now am more settled and really feeling the passion of doing it.
You mentioned a key word, passion. Those getting into it because need a job or think it’s cool typically don’t last. Have good reasons, take care of yourself, so you can be great for the public and the Officers to your left and right…once you get into it in the future 👍
Am I weird for looking forward to the paperwork? Former Security and Military Police going into DoD Police. Report writing is just the peaceful times for me. Gave me a different perspective to look forward to incidents, I get to write for a while.
Police, more than likely start on patrol. Sheriff's office, more than likely to start in jail and earn way out to patrol, if that makes sense. Police = city work Sheriff = rural work, both have pros and cons. Do you research and join a good dept or sheriff's office, because there are some you couldn't pay me enough to work at. Law enforcement is like real estate now, in my opinion, location location location.
Outstanding! What’s the next step? A good friend of mine worked Michigan State Police (and was assigned Flint area) for a while. He once sent me a text at 4:30am showing it was -27 degrees and his team was about to do a search warrant. 🥶 I would have froze in my steps prior to entry!
& 1:00+ A tremendous amount of shared focus & paperwork, hard work on tedious tasks (maintaining: gear, supplies, others' needs, correcting mistakes like water) & use of facts, & a lot of shared intuition, life experience in behavioral psychology (& hypnosis) & more: I assume are trademark & what I find deeply respectable & set such great examples for all communities (& our present academic & contemporary field of science: especially quantum science (reverse causality, causality outside of time) all over the planet
There’s a lot of truth in this. I’ve been a LEO for a little over a year and half and I’ve had 1 pursuit and 2 UOF. And for the 10pm of action to 2 hours of paperwork you’re not wrong. This last UOF I fought this dude for 10min before I was able to get a successful taser deployment. The following was my patrol car window getting kicked out and alot of medical for this guy. I spent close to 8 hours doing paperwork and the report just for that 45 minutes
I’m interested in being a cop but hesitant. i’m a 5’0, 100lb female. i’d consider myself pretty athletic but am worried people won’t take me seriously because of my size. or even that my peers won’t respect me, or that i could be a liability to them. do you have any advice on this?
I worked with some female officers who were right there with you height and weight wise. One of them was so soft spoken and kind but I swear, when guys made her mad, this whole other side of her came out. I saw her make one dude cry 😄. Anyways, on a serious note, and I preach this a lot because it’s necessary…go to your local MMA/BJJ or Krav Maga school and train, train, train.
I'm a 30 year vet. Most of the aggravations and frustrations you'll face as a PO will come from within (Management and supervision). You expect the idiots you deal with in the field to be difficult, but not your own family.
Thank you for commenting. I’m going to make a video about navigating the micro and toxic managers…considering a lot of people interested in the profession or are new to the profession watch my channel (and I’m grateful for that). Is the PD really family though? When I speak across the country I say it’s not, because it moves on without you, but who’s at home won’t be the same without you. I mean they even take your department ID/access card away. Family 🤔
I'm at a dilemma here but I really appreciate the insight you bring. I'm a 24 year old Army Vet that's currently doing "Premed" in college. The more I do school the more I have started to second guess myself and my choice to go into medicine. I've always wanted to make a positive change in peoples lives and help my community. I've considered law enforcement because I believe it is the best way to achieve this. At the same time I generally have a negative view of LEOs as the city that I am in has a myriad of scandals involving LEOs and their conduct. I'm not really sure what ill end up doing but hearing first hand experiences from an LEO certainly helps.
Thanks for sharing all of that, David. You can be a part of something great in law enforcement as long as you maintain a servant’s heart and take care of yourself. You could do it by being a part of the process of being a good cop in a department that is apparently troubled with bad cops, OR, work somewhere else because there is a plus to working in a city that is not where you live. Hope that makes sense. Whatever you decide, wish you the best. My good friend did 20ish years in the Army and just retired (by age) at the department where we both worked. He did 12 years there, after the Army.
Got out of the corps about a year ago tried getting jobs that haven’t worked out don’t wanna reenlist because I have a kid otw and don’t wanna miss her growing up and I have been passionate about LE since forever
Semper Fi brother. You'll find a lot of what you learned in the Marine Corps (discipline, attention to detail, teamwork, tactical techniques...) help in LE. But I wouldn't advise saying "Lock it up" while displaying a knife hand. LOL!!! Best wishes to you and that blessing of a child on the way.
Seems like you feel the call and I admire the passion for it. Without the dedicated and consistent help of family and friends, it would be hard to be full time police as a single parent because most daycares don't run 6a-6p or 7a-7p. Most departments run 12 hour shifts. Now if you could find part time police work OR a department that has "M-F 8-5" positions (i.e. a police department that protects schools), then you might be able to make it happen. Hope this helps. Wish you the best!
Do you recommend getting a degree for this career, especially for pay/promotions? I'm about to graduate high school and I can't tell if I want to go to college or just join the military and then apply when I'm out.
At some departments you can’t go but so high up the ranks without a four year degree. But, at least based on my experience, it didn’t really matter what the degree was in. I majored in political science. See I did nothing with it😄, but was eligible for more pay because of it.
I live in a NJ beach town and considering applying as a Class 1 officer for the 2022 summer season to experience the profession to some extent prior to pursuing it as a permeant career. Class 1s attend the academy for 2 weeks and are unarmed but have powers such as patrol, detain and issue tickets. The career path has always been of interest to me but you make a good point about many officers becoming burnt out with the toll it takes on the body, also the current anti police trend in the media. Do you think the seasonal opportunity is a good way to get my foot in the door? I posses a masters in criminal justice as well.
I’m sure the Masters Degree will help with your knowledge of constitutional rights and scope of authority. Some departments pay more to those with degrees too. But if you feel the call, I say do your research on which departments to apply to and then go for it! Take care of your mind and body everyday and you won’t make the mistakes I did that lead to me having mental health struggles, or at least you will be more resilient. Hope this helps and best wishes to you!
It’s been my dream to be a LAPD or NYPD cop, but with all the political issues and vaccine mandates those departments have I don’t know if it’s worth it. Maybe a more conservative part of the U.S. is a better place to be cop
Working in law enforcement is like real estate now...location location location is a HUGE factor. Hoping you do find a place that’s a good fit and doesn’t require you to get the vaccine. I disagree with those mandates. Ok I’ll stop before I go on and on 👍
As of recently I’ve been looking at joining the marines or army, and realized it’s a bit too far from home and I’d rather be here at state trying to keep the community safe and protect people and see the effect of it. I love science and have wanted to be an entomologist for a year now, but my love for justice has also been growing. I’ve been looking at possibly being a police detective, my plan is to pursue a degree in entomology and criminal justice that way I can choose between my love for science or justice. I have one question to ask though that scares me more than anything. I’m only 16 now but I plan to have a family one day, do you know how it can effect family life? And are your loved ones ever at risk? I’m assuming that there is always a small risk but I’m hoping it isn’t too big
Nice name, “Drop Kicker” 😄👏 I will throw myself under the bus, I looked up entomologist. Had no idea. Very impressed with your forward thinking! Family can be at risk of getting doxed but it’s something to be mindful of and use something like OfficerPrivacy, doesn’t mean it will absolutely happen. Hope that makes sense. Since your 16; see about a police explorers program or police cadet program. You can get exposure
I was in mall security and it was all action every day. I even chased down a criminal in my security car with a police officer and wearing my stupid security uniform. Making 10 bucks! 😑
Now that's awesome you chased down a criminal with the police! $10 isn't enough for all that action by any means....not that law enforcement is much more when starting out (depending on location). Did you ever consider law enforcement?
i’m currently in the middle of a investigation on a man and i’ve been meeting with a detective to help find said man and give backstory. Always had the thought of being a officer in the back of my head. The more she tells me about her job as a detective since she applied after 6 years of being a officer, the more i’m wanting to pursue that path. I told her about my aspirations and she gave me information on how i can apply to be a correctional guard at a jail in the meantime since i’m 19 and that i can get into the police academy and it’ll get paid for. I’m currently working in construction and already work 10 hour shifts 5 days a week, sometimes 6. Just wanted to ask for guidance if you have the time.
Hopefully police find said man. Anyways, yes, you could start that route of corrections, but also look into internships, ride-alongs, police-citizen academy programs, cadet programs...anything to get your foot in the door and be seen...then you can prove you would be of value to the public and department.
Is it too late to get in if im already 30 years old. I love public service. I was a firefighter for a year before i had to stop because of the smoke inhalation causing issues for me. I looked into being a leo but never made the push. Now talking with my brother in law who is a chp ive got that strong urge to try. Im looking at my local pd. I just got some information about positions available for officer trainees.
I want to be a coo because my school has this cop I was having problems and I was in a situation and he was there to help me get through it and keeping me safe and I want to help others
Outstanding! That's great! I worked as a SRO for 3 years, and I was shocked how much the students had my heart, even the ones making bad decisions. I was there when they decided to learn from mistakes rather than keep making them expecting a different result.
I’m going for providence police on April 3rd, and barrington police on April 9th, now I’ve always wanted to become a cop, I have seen friends die to street violence, I’ve always questioned people on why they live the gang life instead of trying to get out of it. I’ve always wanted to make a difference in my city where I was born and raised, I’ve also always defended police when people talk down on all officers due to the actions of a couple of bad officers, my question is when I become a police officer will I get in trouble if I saw something I didn’t agree of being done by a fellow officer and taking control of the situation and de escalating the situation? My goal is to really make a difference, move up in the company and even though it seems impossible try and have some people have a different outlook on officers
Hello there! You won't get in trouble if an officer has sone something unlawful. If you do, then leave that department as quickly as possible. Really seems like you have your heart and mind in the right place and I applaud you. The gang life is so consuming for some as you know, and yet destructive all at the same time. I've seen too many with so much potential just waste it all, because of gang culture. One in particular comes to mind and he is back in prison right now. You stay focused, stay well, and stay vigilant when you finally get out there.
If you don’t mind me asking, what are your doubts? I’ve seen some who had doubts and were doubtful (to become successful police officers) while going through the academy. But then they ended up being great cops for the cities they serve, and are enjoying it. Would a pros and cons list help? Just throwing that idea out there.
got out of the army at 27. Im 30 now and after some civilian activities and work im just bored with simple work. I miss the army but before that i wanted to be a police officer sheriff and highway patrol. they kept telling me i lacked experience. Now they tell me they dont want veteran dogs in there. Maybe i went to the wrong office?
That makes no sense to me why an agency would say they prefer no veterans. At least 25% of today's police officers nationwide served in the military. That's a lot. Where I worked for several years, I and many others had prior military experience. Keep searching and I wish you the best!
I am debating in on my self to do it. I protect people behind me. I break and bend rules to protect people. I can fight but I would wrather use it to protect people
I’m all for protecting people but policing isn’t the job to break and bend rules. But since you can fight as you stated, you will have more confidence thus in turn will hopefully not have to fight (as much). Hopefully the video brought clarity for your decision.
Oh gosh, where do I begin. HAHA! Accept the fact that mental health is just as important as physical health, know case law, train defensive tactics (martial arts that can be applied in most cases, not boxing), and understand respect and empathy are very important.
The initial training I received was 4 months, 5 days a week and sometimes attending training on Saturdays. Then, in the car with a field training officer for six months. If you're interested see if the police department where you live has an explorers/cadet program.
It completely sucks, imagine every Netflix series you start you'd stop in the middle of just one of the episodes randomly and you never know what happens not on a single call nothing but cliffhangers and if you can deal with that you will have the worst scheduling known to man.
Hey man, can you please, if you obviously know something about it, talk about what it takes to become a police officer in the us as a foreigner? I'm from Italy and I wanna become a cop in the us so bad. Thanks man. I appreciate every video of yours. Super motivational and educational
I thank you, a lot, for complimenting the channel. Please share the videos with others who could find them useful. I will call some police officers I know who are in charge of hiring and get back to you.
Sorry for the delayed response. From what I’m learning, the rules vary from department to department. Some require citizenship, but some will hire legal immigrants who have green cards or temporary visas with work authorization permits. I’m not well versed in immigration rules so I hope I worded that correctly. Look into where you want to work, visit that department’s website and call their recruiter to ask for details. My Mom’s side of the family is Italian, so I’m 50% Italian. Not that you asked 😂 Take care and best wishes!

I've work as a social counseler with abused child and i'm a FF.. The "see things" part is so true. The hardest part is constantly witnessing people at their worst.. But remember, you have the potential to be their first step from worst to best. Stay safe, be brave. Good work guys
Thanks for making that point about how an officer could be that influence to help a person step from worst to best.
I graduate the academy in 3 days. I’m ready to hit the streets. But I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous. I can’t wait tho.
Congrats! Nervousness means you care👍 The body reacts to nervousness and excitement the same way, so state “I’m excited!”
Rehearse scenarios in your mind, seek continuous training, do things that make you step out of your comfort zone (ie stepping up on big calls), and take care of your mind and body every day. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to ask. Be well and do great out there! 👍💪

I’m about to graduate with my accounting degree after the fall semester. As I was sitting there applying for internships, I realized that I DON’T want to sit in a cubicle all day every day. Then i randomly got an ad for the PD and I think…it’s what I want to do
Quite the opposite of accounting 😄

Firefighters are better than cops. Be a Firefighter, don't be a coward
Strong minds from all disciplines are needed in policing and law enforcement
Its been a year since your comment. How are you doing now?
I'm glad you found it helpful. Thanks for commenting. All the best!
Did they both like being a cop and were either of them ever seriously hurt?
A comedy actress here in Europe explained at age around 40 she experienced a personal transformation changing her mindset from "stressful" to "happy" state of mind...or from hustling to calm.
It has a lot of health advantages for your mind and body when you are living happily in the present moment and meeting friends
who have the same philosophy of happiness empathy gratitude. She is single though. Her father is also her role model in a sense of humor and not taking life too seriously.
The only disadvantage of living "happily" in the present moment, not living in the past is
that you may have to start problems with your memory.
But it seems if half of society will live in this happy state of mind and gratitude for each other in the community
the cops would have much less work because they wouldn't suffer from anxiety and depression.
Being happy at the moment may affect your memory sometimes. or you remember the good things.
i’m also 17
Great video.
Semper Fi brother
It's a boring fucking job most suitable for people with slightly below average intelligence. You're making it out to be the biggest deal on the planet, but it's just working for a living and you're going to have to work with people who are sick, disturbed and pathologically arrogant.
I'm not talking about criminals.
I'm talking about working with fucking COPS.
Good luck
Good luck.
Very helpful video
Grateful you found it helpful! Thanks commenting! Take care!
what are you doing here? lol
My classes start tomorrow morning at 6:45 am!

thank you for your service to the corp.

Semper Fi, I am an active duty Marine looking to retire shortly. I want to continue to serve my community. The biggest thing I’m trying to figure out:
Is it, or is it not, recommended to be a police officer in the same city you live in?
Semper Fi brother, that’s a good question. Me personally, I did not work in the city where I lived. I did for my first year and did not like it, at all. Considering where I worked was the city where I was born and raised, yeah, had to move. Lol
Just my opinion.

Excellent video, your info is spot on. The best book I ever read is; “The Job, True Tales From The Life of a New York City Cop” by Steve Osborne. Your So blessed to be a Police officer and i'm not a Police officer but i wish i was
Hello!
Will you ever be able to work as one?
Appreciate you being transparent about the pros and cons. I’m kind of curious about being a police officer. Im 5 feet so not very tall would that be an issue being hired as a cop?
I worked with police officers who were close to that but I can’t say for sure if that’s a barrier for employment. My fault!
This is mostly an issue with my dad though because I know he would prefer me not get into LE so I don’t really know how or what to tell him
Understood. Wish I had the answer for you. Based on first impression, you are someone who will work and find the opportunities. 👍

That will serve you well 👍👍
I’m 27 and highly considering joining the police department or deputy sheriff. Any insight on the differences? Recommendations?
Police, more than likely start on patrol. Sheriff's office, more than likely to start in jail and earn way out to patrol, if that makes sense. Police = city work
Sheriff = rural work, both have pros and cons. Do you research and join a good dept or sheriff's office, because there are some you couldn't pay me enough to work at. Law enforcement is like real estate now, in my opinion, location location location.
Just passed the Mcoles!
Outstanding! What’s the next step?

There’s a lot of truth in this. I’ve been a LEO for a little over a year and half and I’ve had 1 pursuit and 2 UOF. And for the 10pm of action to 2 hours of paperwork you’re not wrong. This last UOF I fought this dude for 10min before I was able to get a successful taser deployment. The following was my patrol car window getting kicked out and alot of medical for this guy. I spent close to 8 hours doing paperwork and the report just for that 45 minutes
Yeah it’s amazing the amount of time the “paperwork” takes.
You stay vigilant and take care of yourself out there.

@@The10CodeMindset Thank you so much :)
Want to be a cop just like my dad but I am a single mom so how would I accomplish that my current custody schedule?
No officer is a machine... Except robocop
what movie scene were those?
“Office Space” and “The Other Guys”. 2 of the funniest movies I’ve ever watched
Ok I’ll stop before I go on and on 👍
@@The10CodeMindset I appreciate the reply, thanks for the videos they help a lot
Nice name, “Drop Kicker” 😄👏
I will throw myself under the bus, I looked up entomologist.
@@The10CodeMindset Thanks a lot! I promise I *WILL* be the perfect version of myself to be worthy enough of receiving a badge.
Join the national guard and become an officer at the same time
I was in mall security and it was all action every day.
@@The10CodeMindset will do. I’ll look into ride alongs that sounds like a good start too. Thank you for the extra help!
Keep safe man 👏👏👏
Which 1811 is most similar as a police officer?
Is it too late to get in if im already 30 years old. I love public service. I was a firefighter for a year before i had to stop because of the smoke inhalation causing issues for me. I looked into being a leo but never made the push. Now talking with my brother in law who is a chp ive got that strong urge to try. Im looking at my local pd. I just got some information about positions available for officer trainees.
Definitely not too late at 30! Wishing you all the best on finding the right PD and then starting the journey
Oh boy I want to get out of corporate America so bad. I have been seriously considering this.
I’m 3 months into the academy. I’m not sure what to think about it. I have doubts every so often. Should I continue with this?
@@The10CodeMindset I am still debating with my self and friends before I am make that leap
@@Vampireknight99 Well the good thing is the job definitely isn't going away so take your time. lol.
Thanks for the reply. Good luck with everything.
I really appreciate the police.
i got two years to prepare to apply to join the RCMP any advice that i can take while i train and prepare myself for it?
Oh gosh, where do I begin. HAHA! Accept the fact that mental health is just as important as physical health, know case law, train defensive tactics (martial arts that can be applied in most cases, not boxing), and understand respect and empathy are very important.
@@The10CodeMindset thanks mate! I need to continue working on my mental health anyway 😅
@@lukeborst2751Right there with you lol
How long does it take to be a cop like in training I’m 16 and just curious?
The initial training I received was 4 months, 5 days a week and sometimes attending training on Saturdays. Then, in the car with a field training officer for six months. If you're interested see if the police department where you live has an explorers/cadet program.
It completely sucks, imagine every Netflix series you start you'd stop in the middle of just one of the episodes randomly and you never know what happens not on a single call nothing but cliffhangers and if you can deal with that you will have the worst scheduling known to man.
I’m currently a freshman in college and this got me feeling like I made the right decision to be a cop!
Dude same!
I’m glad you liked the video and it helped you in the decision process. God bless
@@The10CodeMindset thanks a lot. I'll surely do that :)
Not that you asked 😂

Thanks for sharing. I guess I should know what cso means but will you please let me know what that is? A rejection is tough, I get it. Stick with it 💪💪
@@The10CodeMindset a cso is a community service officer and they help police officers with crime prevention. It did bring my mood down a little bit when I got the email but I used it as motivation in the gym.
