Why is it necessary to use only the meter brand control solution? I have the compact, but have control solution from a Contour Next meter. Why wouldn't that solution work?
Thanks! I’m a nurse and I’m checking my cat’s glucs and I was confused as to why it said 138. I’m used to having a hi and low solution bottle so this was very helpful!
I don't understand this either, if the solution is say 125 and the meter reads 161 that's crazy. What good is the meter? Relion told me the reading is not stored as a calibration offset.
Well, that explains why I have two meters and one reads about 10 more than the other but they both read on the high side when compared to a friends meter and stips? Very confusing. I thought the control solution would be a source of "calibration" whereby they would tell you the solution should register as 100 and if you read 110 on your meter then that point forward you could just add 10 to your readings.......With such a large span of acceptable 'error' I don't know how useful these meters are. I mean 'normal is supposed to be between 80 to 100. With these meters and strips you can easily go over or under by just the meter and strip inaccuracies. Happy I watched this video so as not to waste my money on this supposed "control solution" given the absurd span of acceptable readings.
Thank you....I finally found the info I wanted regarding when to use the control solution. I am prediabetic and bought this meter to check trends. Do you think I need to use the control solution?
My last yearly blood labs showed a bit higher fasting glucose of 115. Bought the Relion Premier Classic and today my first test read 151. Rather shocked I popped in another strip and got a 98. Tested two more times and got 101 and 107. Not liking the accuracey.
As he said in the video, call the number on your test strips, and they will send you the control solution for free. I called Walmart pharmacy and they gave me the number. Good luck!

Glad it was helpful!
How can these things be useful with a range of 119 to 161 on a known solution?
Same. I thought that's a huge margin of error. Pretty sure this stuff has a short shelf life also,

Just shows you how inaccurate these machines are. an error range of 42 points isn’t very good when dealing with blood sugar.
Not useful at all. It is scam
Thank you so much for this video it helps me a lot, because I thought my glucose meter was lining 👍

This meter is money lost
What would have happen if it showed level 2, is there something in the meter you would need to change?

Not likely, one really only needs to use the control solution if they believe the meter and strips are providing incorrect readings.
