Love your videos and the amount of work and dedication you put on every plane and every part of them. I will eventually buy one from you even if I don't need it! Just for the pleasure of owning a piece of such detailed work. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and talent!

Just recently bought some sandblasted Stanley planes here in NE Ohio. It’s amazing to hold a Type 7 No. 4 in your hand( S casting) and it looks brand new🤷🏻‍♂️‼️ The antique store charged $150 for it and for a rosewood handled No. 40,$100!⁉️⁉️🖤

Easy to replace nickel with brush plating. We do it in our vintage telephone restoration in the U.K. It'ss like magic!

He should show a No. 45 restoration, collectors would appreciate it!

How many hours would you say you have invested in restoring this plane?

excellent work, probably takes more time than making it new. but it worth the time, you are apparently having fun

The 'Line' is a dent from the lever hitting the edge of the cap when it is pried open.

Hey Devil Dog.....I just started restoring hand planes about a year ago, with 3 completed and 2 in progress. Learning as I go, but with a lot of questions still on how-to's. I am so glad I found your channel. Can't wait to finish watching the rest of your videos. Thank you so much for sharing all of this valuable information. I would also like to PM you to ask about one of the transitional planes that I found in NH this summer that has no markings on it. After scouring the interweb for hours, I can't find an exact match as to the manufacturer.....thanks from another Leatherneck.

The line is from the lever being snapped up and hitting the body of the lever cap. It's better not being there. 🙈

Is it possible to re-plate the nickle?

The Tool Collector is also a tool(EBay) dealer so perfection is needed.

I have an old "K" series Keen Kutter lever cap (bedrock) and it doesn't have the flat piece of metal on the back. Is it supposed to? It doesn't even look like there is a place for the rivet/screw to hold it in place.

I was wondering what I should do with that nickel plating on my first old no5 someone gave me. Since then I went nuts and have a good collection now.

Thanks for the great videos. Is there any way to tighten a loose lever on a lever cap? I have one that flops back and forth with no tension. It's still functional but drives me crazy. Thanks

Could you remove the chrome with some kind of acid?
Also, what do you use as a flat base for your lapping station?

I've watched the videos in order but seem to have missed which one shows you lapping the plane flat, this is always the biggest problem I have with my own planes and could do with some tips to improve my efforts. Could you let me know which one I need to see? Thanks

I have a Plane Lever Cap that part of the nickle plating has come off in a couple spots; partially on the lever and corner which have rust. What is the best way to finished the lever cap is nickle plating that flaked off?

I recently tried evaporust for my type 6 number 4 and it came out lovely! It has wonderful patina still and it wasnt a huge mess! Have you ever dabbled in Evaporust or anything similar? Love your work man!

    • @19DHooah
      @19DHooah 3 ปีที่แล้ว

I used evaporust on my type 13 no. 6 lever cap and it tarnished it and turned it black. It did get rid of the rust, but now I have the black to contend with. It seems about as hard to sand off as the rust.

@@19DHooah its the leftover carbon. It's best to take off while still wet with soap and water and some steel wool.

love your work, I restore my hand plane according to your videos.. i had a small problem, it seems that the previous owner of the hand plane i owned decide to tighten the blades using the screw, not the tension spring on the lever cap and it left the cap deeply dented... is it possible to fix it? thanks before,..
