Completely right about the hotkeys. In desperate need to retreat, so often do I highlight multiple units, one of them is a vehicle and I become completely unable to retreat because I can only order the unit to reverse
Another good video that could stand to mention CoH online that unfortunately was strangled in the crib by the death of the lead developer in a car crash. That aside, I only slightly disagree with your scoring but agree with your ultimate point that CoH3 has let us down for a variety of reasons that could have been avoided. You provided a good preliminary look at what the issue was, especially for anyone unfamiliar with the series. I would like to see a video on what you would do to fix CoH3, as a thought experiment.
Hey man, Thanks for your thoughts. Yeah that could be a good idea. I was also thinking of doing something about the learning curve of company and the struggles of new people to the game.
@@Rather.Splended.Cromwell I look forward to any video you post. On a side note, would you potentially be interested in taking a look at the BK mod by any chance?
2 small corrections: Ingame Store: Minus 1 point for CoH 2&3 - Because they have one at all! Mod Support: Definitely CoH 1! - There are so many great mods that add so much to the game or "turn it upside down". And that goes for the multiplayer AND the campaign!
Maybe you should check out the game called "Gate of Hell Ostfront." Especially from their up coming expansion "liberation". It might be something within your aisle of interest .
Honestly earned my sub man, what An amazing channel, you’ve really brought out the key points we were all thinking I might agree disagree on different points but I 100% agree coh 3 it’s just not good enough, coh3 isn’t terrible but just because something isn’t bad I don’t think that makes it good, not definitely good anyway 😊 anyway thanks for that amazing video actually really enjoyed it! Props to you!! Best of luck in the future, I’ll keep watching that’s for sure.
The "Hidden" OST CoH3 has are all found in the Singleplayer campaigns. My favorite piece is the one that plays in the intro for the Italian Campaign (yes, the one with the "moving art" cinematic). As for why they aren't implemented into multiplayer or even the menus, it's mostly due to how tailored the music is for the campaign like how it'd be hard to find a good "looping" point for the music to implement dynamically in skirmishes. As for the SFX being underwhelming in CoH3; I'd blame how the game wanted to go for a realism aesthetic at some point. The same could be said about their art direction which is doing that while still trying to stylize. Like sure stuff would sound "weak" or doesn't have that oomph; on the other hand, comparing it to irl footage of similar weapons being used out in the open and it sounds about the same when also taking into account that the "player" is far high up in the sky. A great example is how the distant gunshots/explosions sound pretty similar to what you'd hear from documented sources. Like the only problem I have really with the audio in CoH3 is not that the sounds themselves sound good, but rather are the sounds loud and distinguishable enough for me which CoH3 still suffers from with some stuff. Is it bad for them to use much more close to life sounds for the game? Not really. Still, just like real life, accurately representing it tends to be disappointing , bland, or even player unfriendly. At times, It's best to not let reality heavily influence entertainment even for the sake of immersion.
My only point on this issue is that COH2 was developed to no end almost. The campaign was only there as it was an intro for players how to play online multiplayer really. Now after over a decade of balancing etc the game was almost perfect. But eventual sales figures dropped. Therefore they had to make something new to get money. Easy as. In my opinion they fell for the same mistake the Blood Bowl franchise did. And the Dawn of war franchise in particular made a mess of it: changing something for the sake of change. Obviously they need enough change to justify the money you pay for it, yet release just enough so you get hooked and spend a truckload of money on DLC. And that is one thin ice following a nearly perfectly developed game. Not yet but it is about to shatter.
Hey I’m new to the COH franchise and only own COH3. I formerly played a lot of Steel Division 2 and Normandy 44. When SD2 came out, the gameplay was vastly different, but not objectively superior. Yet in months SD2 would kill the SD44 playerbase and left many missing the game once they realized that the long macro-managed campaigns were not really enjoyable. So I guess what I’m saying is it’s not bad for a game to persist when the new one comes out.
yeah absolutely, no arguments there. However, when the previous instalment has the vast majority of the players so long into the the titles development, concerns are raised.
I dunno how people can say COH2's store was acceptable in any regard. It didn't have a currency for several years so there was no way to earn stuff. It also came with commanders on release and notoriously ruined MP balance constantly with releasing broken-commanders that took weeks to be balanced. The Assault Grenadier incident. Never forget.
Yeah I hear you, I think its important to remember these comparisons are made in the present and not the past. I dont see a point in comparing present COH3 to past COH2. The COH2 store is acceptable now in the present, and that's what COH3 is in competition with. I hope you found this helpful.
Additionally they picked italy and africa as a theater. Which is ok. But those theaters where side shows in the war. And so is COH3 also just a side show. I think they should've moved on to a different war. Modern Warfare would have been what I was hoping for to see in COH3. But I also understand, if you stay in the same war you don't need to develop all assets from scratch.
If they were going for a different war, i think the Korean war would probably be the best. The fighting isn't too dissimilar that it migjt struggle with the CoH formula and you get to play with underrepresented early cold war tech like the t44, is3 and upgraded pershings
Comparing small categories like that is missing forest for the trees i feel. As someone who grew up on rts, and played all CoHs, CoH1 is by far the most balanced and fun out of the bunch. Each nation had a well defined playstyle, with doctrines augments it for variety. It also had distinctive Early, Mid and Late game. Whereas 2 and 3 kind of mush them all together. With blurred lines between each stage. CoH 1 had nice push and pull gameplay where you can tech up but it will cost you territory. The window for it in 2 and 3 is too small to recognize when your opponent is doing it and pushing your advantage. And the voicelines in Coh1 must be one of the best voiceovers in the gaming industry. So much character and playfulness. They never recaptured that. Man i miss coh1 so much... good times
COH 3 is really bad because you cant feel the war in the game. Theoritically idea is great but pratically it's not. COH 1 ambience is awesome. Just take good thing first 2 games and merge it. But you cant do that.
Its just not fair to compare a 10 month old game that probably had 2-3 years of dev to a 10 year old game with 2-3 years of dev and so many years of continuing support and expansion. COH 2 also had many of these same issues at launch and whole periods of terrible balance but people conveniently forget that now
Hey there, I think within the context of the video the comparison is fair. As COH3 is in compitition with Coh2 now, not COH2 8 years ago. Hope that's cleared things up for you.
@@jimhall1728 I understand thats why the comparison is being made, but its not fair. It should be a question of potential; does COH3 have the potential to be supported for 10 years and have all these improvements made? Yes it does. Therefore its a good game by our own community standards
@@zachhaigh5535 Hey folks, I hear what the both of you are saying. However "potential" is hard to measure, especially with Relic lol. I prefer to measure things how they are, and praise them if they change in a good way. I'm sure COH3 has great days ahead. :)
COH1 never played it however i have respect for COH1 & COH2 however clear most of us are divided to consider COH3 a COH game aince it feels, sounds acts more like a stripped down version of the predecessors. To out it simply it lacks soul.
Coh3 is amazing I really love it. It lacks polish but it's potential shines through . I rly like coh 2 but it feels like such a step bavkwards after 3 despite the polish. Don't get me wrong the campaign sucks and compstomp is boring but multiplayer is so much fun despite the issues
It's definitely got a lot of potential. I actually think the core is more solid, however there's a lot of polish to be done and it needs a ton of maps.
I dont like CoH 2. Its just chaos with so many different commanders you never have a sense of control. In CoH 1 and 3 you can learn them and know what type opponent might have after he revealed himself. CoH 2 menu system is Ugly and confusing. In so happy when CoH 3 came. It really reminded me about CoH 1 great design. Also smarter units and units hold of longer so you can keep them alive a bit easier. It puts more focus on strategy than mouse clicks. Its my take on this. I would rate them how they were at their time in history. CoH 1 - 5 CoH 2 - 2 CoH 3 - 4

Another great video Splendid! I really hope in a year or so you can remake this video and have CoH3 stick out above the rest.
Thank you for watching :)
You're right brother. Why would they buy coh3 while coh2 is well balanced, almost bug free... Relic didn't offer them a better game to move to 😢😢
lol coh2 was never balanced
I never comment but this was a pretty good video, I like your tone and pacing of the voice over
thank you, that's really nice of you to say.

Great video, I forgot how good the music in 1 and 2 was, makes it extra painful to listen to the COH 3 theme while waiting for a match.
