This video was very helpful for me. I specialize in print design and want to build a business around it but I also want to offer web design although I'm not the greatest at it currently. Your video taught me its okay to be super focused now and branch out later. Thanks!
I went through a whole bunch of articles and videos about this topic and you were the only person who explained it straight to the point. Appreciate for transparency and sharing your thoughts.
This video make more inspiration for me, because I learned design myself and I know how valuable is graphic design as much as well from others.i learned photshop and illustrator from seeing TH-cam videos that lot more helping me. now I wanted to start my own career on this.Thank you for giving nice advise .keep on posting more videos on this.
Wow, I'm impressed that you used hardly any jump cut and editing. You're a great speaker and definitely know your stuff. Seriously impressed and I don't even do graphic design! 😅 I'm more of a digital designer + web developer
You are so motivating when you talk! I am working 20hrs/w as an in-house designer to keep myself afloat while attempting freelancing. Clients are cheap (not free) favours for friends and yes I have an Insta/FB page but NO IDEA how to actually get attention or put myself out there.
Thanks! I totally know the position you’re in. It takes one step at a time. Having your online presence set up doesn’t assure clients. And while doing cheap is ok to build portfolio you really want to make sure these projects are worth your time and building the work you want to get more of. If you ever want more in depth help, please let me know. The foundation of your business is vital.
@@4TheCreatives At the moment the challenge is fighting the 'after work exhaustion' and staying motivated to continue my design work at home. Honestly these types of videos really help.
Oh man I understand that can be hard. Give yourself a really good goal to help motivate you. Could be when you want to have the full switch to freelance or why you want to leave your day job. That will make the extra working part easier😉
Wow! Just found your channel today, very impressed! You've earned a sub from me. I'm on my last semest of my graphic design studies. I'm so luck that I've got a part-time job in a software development company already, working with UX/UI. But I want to start my own business in maybe a few years. So I'm constantly doing research, planning things out, and getting ready for whenever that day comes! Thanks for sharing good information.
So great to have you stop by my channel! And thanks for the sub! Awesome that you are so forward thinking and getting educated in the business side. It’s vital. And having a part time job in a Dev company is great to be in on the action and see how a digital company is run. Do you know what type of design you want to get into?
Thanks alot you're really inspiring me to keep on going and always put my best foot forward and I didn't know what to do next I was about to give up after this video but you've really helped me alot
You mentioned web design. I've been studying both web design in Figma and Webflow no-code web development and feel only decent at both at this time. Does it make sense to double-down on one of them and neglect the other? So far the one piece of advice that I heard is that there's a lot more freelance Webflow work out there than web design. That said, web design and UI design have a lot more in common than no-code development and this type of work could eventually open up both freelance and full time opportunities in UI/UX.
Web design is not my strength but I will tell you to take on one at a time and master it. Only then go onto the next. Make sure you enjoy working in that area and the one that you feel you can get the best results for clients.
I love Graphic Design but I feel no one likes my work on Instagram. Not a lot of followers if I don't have that I don't think I can start a business. I really want to but I feel no one likes my work. Hopefully start a career in Graphic Design and work for myself.
Instagram followers or likes does not determine if you’re good or successful or not. Maybe your ideal clients or the type that would be drawn to your designs are not on IG or you haven’t found where they are or gotten their attention yet. So first I would start with who do you want to work with and then figure out the platform they are most on. Don’t focus on quantity of followers but the quality.
@4 The Creatives Thank you so much. I really want to start designing postcards, posters etc. I want to create a business online like Etsy or fiverr. Right now I only know photoshop. Hopefully get to work at home and leave my stressful job. I feel i need to know a lot with graphic design or have a degree in it. But I'm very creative and unique with designs.
So inspiring video. I am actually looking forward to make digital assets of logo designing but i am not professional in logo designing my main week point in this is typography and i've heard that you need to be a master if you want to convert your work into your assets and this lowered my confidence because i am an ACCA student and i have to study hard and i also want to make money but don't know how😔. I am really sorry for this big text. I think you as a friend so plz give some suggestions it will help me. Thank you so much
Very nice video, as usual. I discovered your channel a while ago and I must say that, despite I am a bit disconnected right now, as I am about to reach a retail job to survive, your content is truly helpful and it will be part of my guidance when I could start my personal projects. Thank you and take care, my friend. Kindest regards for Spain :)
It’s my absolute pleasure to help guide you. I understand that you have to have a job to survive, but keep your eye on your real goal, work on your design business as much as you can on the side and with persistence you can build it up to a consistent stream of income.

I really need help with pricing. I am mainly working with people I know personally right now and its hard for me to charge thousands of dollars. I have been doing their logos for $300 because I am just starting back out. I know I am a good designer, but I am not sure how to get high ticket clients.
Hi Lauren! This is how I was too. Feeling I couldn't charge more and so scared to try. The best way to transition between the hundred dollar projects to the thousands of dollars projects is by first really nailing down who you want to work with, aside from just those people that are friends and family or referred by friends and family. I had to become good at one thing and be seen as an expert in an area before I really felt confident charging higher prices. Also, expanding the service you offer to brand identity. So if you love to do logos, why not offer a full branding with the identity guide as well so that you are providing more and then you can charge more. If you look at any company that gets a logo or a branding, they are investing so much money in other things such as products to sell, a storefront, advertising and marketing spend. Branding is the foundation that ties it all together and they absolutely can invest more than $300 to get that.
I am putting together a whole course that will address this, but for now you can check out this playlist: th-cam.com/play/PLdHyNrkiFQPpqq7KVp3yWaiH9pm3PIvg8.html
Lol! Understood on that. It really depends how you have it set up. Clients like to be spoken to and I feel it creates more loyal customers and helps me to do better service.
@@4TheCreatives Damn any idea how I can go about doing it without phone calls? I am deaf so speaking on the phone isn't an option and neither is hiring someone else to do it =/ I've been working on graphics for 6 years for fun (in all of my free time) and thought it was a great time to begin setting up a business. I also thought simply asking them to contact you through email would be the way to go.
So great you are making this into a full time job now! You can ABSOLUTELY do it through email if necessary. I think that understanding your clients and having streamlined questions you ask will make your job so much easier. Do you have a specific niche you are focusing on?

@@rachelrochelle3714 Great! Yes, you got it, you don't need to do all right now. :)
Question: Is print design too broad of a focus or should I be more specific?
Yes because you have to choose who the type of clients who need print design are.

Yes, definitely
Thank you so much. Is brand design a niche under graphic design ? How to master brand design ?
