The MP-40 is not the "Schmeisser" as some folks mistakenly believe (as it is in this case). Hugo Schmeisser had nothing to do with this firearm, this is Heinrich Vollmer's creation. Hugo Schmeisser is responsible for the famous StG-44, the mother of all AR's.
The STG 44 is the mother of the AR indeed, and despite what some people claim, the AK was heavily inspired by it too. And then they came up with another version, the STG 45 that is a roller back mechanism, instead of gas piston like the STG 44, that would then originate the FN FAL and the HK G3. And then the whole family of HK's up to the 90's, the MP5, the HK 53 (a MP5 chambered in 5.56), HK 51 (7.62x39), etc
The luger 9mm is an iconic caliber to say the least, it became the standard caliber in most European militaries for hand guns. the 8mm Mauser is also a great caliber, it's very popular for hunting, here in Sweden people hunt elk with it and the Swedish Mauser K. is also a very popular rifle for hunting and recreational shooting in clubs
