@@StitchesLovesRats Hi, professional herpetologist here! So during the late 19th century, when anurophagy (frog-eating) was at its peak in Paris, the French government, in a bid to reduce public expenditure on veteran frog care homes, decided to put the legless frog bodies to productive economic use. They commissioned Gustave Eiffel to construct a large frog-drying structure, based on triangular Norwegian fish flakes. This structure, aptly named the 'Eiffel Tower', was used to dry over three million frogs a year, which would be sold off to luthiers who used the bodies in the making of violin bows. Following, in typical French fashion, the frog protests of 1932, the Eiffel Tower was decommissioned and turned into an official tourist trap, or a 'piège à touristes officiel', and luthiers switched to other materials. However still to this day they retain the term 'frog' for the heel of the bow.

Regarding the escargot, when my son was very little, the parents of one of his friends invited him to join their family for dinner at a French restaurant. The family was quite well off. The next day my boy said, "Umm, dad, you know rich people?" "What about them?" I asked. He replied in a sincere, incredulous voice, "Well, did you know they eat snails? I mean, why be rich if you gotta' eat snails?"

There used to be a bar in a tiny town near where my Dad grew up in NW Iowa called The Frog Pond. They did, indeed, have a pond and did, indeed, have frogs. They served fried fogs legs. Very much like chicken wings. Not much flavor in and of themselves. I bet yours were better!
Back in the 1970’s frog legs were very popular in the United States in High End Steak Houses. My mother loved them. I would close my eyes when she ate them. 🤣🤣🤣

Hear me out: frog legs are French chicken wings! They may not be served breaded and covered in buffalo sauce, but it's such a similar experience. You have small bits of white meat with a bone in the middle, and you nibble around it. Tastes like chicken. I like them even better because they seem to have less fat and sinew.

Hi, I've been watching your vlogs and they are excellent and helpful to our recent trip in Paris a few weeks ago. Thank you so much. I don't mean to disrespect this video but this is our honest review from our recent experience on this restaurant: My wife and I ate here few weeks ago, and we noticed that all the Asians were seated in a separate section at the back, while the "Non-Asians" or Whites were seated in another section at the front upon entering the restaurant. As an Asian who has traveled to many places around the world and dined in various restaurants, I have never encountered such an arrangement. I find this seating policy, implemented by their management, somewhat offensive and a subtle display of racism. I cannot support this establishment. There are many other excellent restaurants in Paris that serve quality escargot without having to experience this. It's unfortunate that we felt this way but it's not your fault. You guys have always been great in giving information about this beautiful city. I would continue to recommend this channel to people who want to see Paris. All the best to you both! 😊
