Hi Ian, I would like to extend a special thanks to the owner of these pistols for allowing you to do your outstanding (as usual) show and tell on these rare firearms. To all you fans of the channel who may have rare firearms of your own, I strongly encourage you to share your collection with Ian. It is a shame when guns are locked away out of sight. Guns like these Bergmanns are beautiful pieces of art and history and deserve to be shared with people who can truly appreciate them! Well done, as always, Ian.
Fabulous pistols, I collect pre 1900 Bergmann pistols and I have two of the 1894 models number 6 and number 8. They are similar to number 14 in Ians video with number 8 being the closest in features. All was not lost with these 'experimental firearms' as you know Bergmann learned from these and produced the fairly successful number two and three with a few number four's among them. Great presentation Ian - very rare pistols for sure.
This is an absolutely gorgeous handgun. I find myself rewatching this video often. The magazine's location must make it very well balanced. I want to own one of these, a broomhandle Mauser and a Luger. Those guns are just pure art. Probably the most elegant handguns.
Please tell us that the owner is willing to do a photogrametry session with this pistol so all the gun/prop nerds can 3d print the base for Mandalorian blasters.
With The Mandalorian release, these pistols and your video will deservedly receive more views. Those pistols, and many of the pistols that are from this time period are beautiful. Though they are often complicated and of questionable reliability they are still beautiful. Nothing in the firearms industry looks like these at all aesthetically. Definitely sucks honestly.
Hey Ian, really enjoying learning about the Bergmann Pistols so far. On an unrelated note, any plans to add a ball-cap to your merchandise page? All the shirts are super cool, but I really want a hat! Thanks for all your hard work!
I noticed there's this really cool motif in Star Wars of giving heroes blasters based on turn of the century Semi autos. Obviously Han has his Mauser, and in episode 7 he gives Rey a blaster that looks an awful lot like it was built off of a Bergmann. Now in rogue one, Jyn Erso is given what looks like an artillery Luger with a heavy barrel.
Genuinely cool looking pistol (the well finished one anyway). Looks like a cross between Han Solos' C96 and a LeMatt. Always a pleasure visiting your channel sir.
I would love to see a video discussing the practical/modern implications of clips vs. magazines. For instance it seems to me that a design like this could be further optimized to reduce load time, battlefield waste, and weight.
"The safety on these pistols is very important. Definitely need to use it--or you [chuckles] would've-- the chances you'd be carrying one of these pistols today are approximately zero." Oh yeah?
