  • If your HVAC Defroster light is blinking, it may be time to replace the HVAC Control Module in your Jeep JK or JKU Wrangler. This video covers the background behind why the HVAC control module may fail, what some of the other issues may be, and how to disassemble and reassemble your dash in order to replace the HVAC Control Module. My original part was Mopar # 68197433AA and I replaced it with Mopar # 68197433AB.

    There are three actuator motors for hvac on the JK. The blend door actuator is on the driver's side and you can hear it. The flap controls wherher heat from the engine compartment gets in or from AC. The other two can be seen when you take rhe gloce compartment out. Ao you canneasily tell whether one of these motors or gears had broken.

      I would guess so... It's very likely that the failure mode for the Patriot module is similar to the Wrangler. The replacement would be a different part number, however. Your local parts counter can probably help with that. 👍

    Rick I have a 2013 Jeep Wrangler Sahara where the defrost light has been doing that for about a year, The AC eventually would come on, but the other day we were going through our 7th day of 90 degree weather and I had the top off with the AC blowing and I noticed I was losing cold air . When I got home I decided to recharge the the AC unit with a can of AC Pro which i have used on other vehicles.When I went to fill it it wouldn't fill my AC unit. The AC unit light and the recirculation lights were on with fan speed at its highest and temperature at its lowest . I checked the ac compressor and it wasn't turning . Checked the 2 AC fuses under the hood and they were good. I can use all my HVAC controls ok but can't get the compressor to come on which needs to come on in order to refill the AC unit. If I were to replace this HVAC control module would it turn my compressor on. Any suggestions would be helpful.Thank you

    • @Ricks4WD
      @Ricks4WD  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah didn't see your other post here. Do you have any engine codes? I suppose it's possible that the control unit might be giving out and cutting your AC out, but it could also be the compressor, perhaps.

      Might be one of the blend door actuators is the issue. The light blinks when there is an issue with the blend door positions, either it is forgetting the position (bad memory on the controller), or there is some issue with the blend door itself.

    I got this blinking light today. I had disconnected the battery and I detailed the interior in the meantime. During that time I obviously moved the hvac knobs around without any power to the system. When I got everything buttoned back up, I started the Jeep and I got this blinking light. I’m wondering if the memory got confused due to me changing the position of the controls while the battery was disconnected.

    • @Ricks4WD
      @Ricks4WD  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's likely because you disconnected the battery, the module probably decided to relearn the duct positions. If it persists, then the memory on the module might have failed.

    Hey Rick, I have a JK 2011, about a year ago My heat became almost non existent, I flushed the heater core and changed the blend door actuator under the steering wheel . The heat improved a little if You keep the fan low. I made it through the winter. I just started getting clicking behind my glove box and saw the rear defrost light blink at startup. The blinking light indicates that there is something wrong with running the test cycle on the blend doors. In my case it was that the memory on the control module failed, but yours may actually indicate an issue with the doors again since you've replaced them before.

      All I know is that the blinking defroster light indicates an issue with the blend door test cycle or the control module itself. I don't think it indicates a thermostat issue although your tstat may separately have some other issue. Sounds like you might have something else going on beyond the HVAC control module.

    • @Ricks4WD
      @Ricks4WD  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm not as familiar with that part, but I'd think that if it was having problems, you'd be experiencing more obvious problems with your blower motor operating weirdly. How did they determine that the resistor was at fault?
