(2014 Jeep Wrangler JK) I actually just fixed it w/out having to take anything apart...The plastic arm was just jammed in the spline shaft. I laid my head underneath, awkwardly, and shined a flashlight on the white arm and pushed on it till it moved. I turned the Jeep on and switched from cold to hot and it worked on its own. 😊 Thanks for the video!
2014 Wrangler JK, no heat. Moved the plastic arm up the spline shaft. Heat is working. Of course, I had it mostly torn apart before I realized I could see the actuator arm from underneath the dash. Very awkward node positioning, but know I know that is indeed a quick fix. Thank you for the video and this comment! 🤙
Thanks for sharing this, it was a lifesaver! Especially since the dealership wanted over $400 to replace it. Took me less than an hour thanks to your video.
THANK YOU!!!!!! My heater quit working about 2 weeks ago and we’ve had the coldest winter that I can remember in FL, I flushed the heater core over the weekend still no heat, very frustrating. Came across your video and thought I’d try it, looks simple enough. Fixed my heat!!!
Thanks for the video, gave me all I needed to fix it, what to look for and where. On a RHD Wrangler it's even easier. Glove box out and there it is, no steering column in the way or need to crawl around looking up under panels. Keep up the good work.

In my case (2011 JK), the pivoting arm was just jammed in the cold position. Without taking anything apart and laying on my back in the footwell, I took a look upwards directly above the gas pedal area and with a flashlight had a pretty clear view of the mechanism. With the key on I rotated the dial and nothing was moving. I used a piece of wood dowel to poke and prod the part around a bit, heard a click sound, and it came back to life. I sprayed some white lithium grease on it and it seems good to go. I'm still going to buy a new part though and replace it in the very near future. Thanks for the video!
Thank you for being quick and to the point and not just talking to hear yourself talk like a lot of the TH-camrs You definitely helped me with my problem thank you have a great day
Great video. One helpful tip: i believe in most JK's that airduct is actually split lenghwise ("two halves"), so if you press on the sides it will pop open and then it is very easy to remove and reinstall WITHOUT having to unbolt that module in the back. Will save you some extra tinkering and bolt dropping ;)
2017 Wrangler: No heat. Hot water to heater core. Actuator not working. Took it apart and tested actuator motor and it worked. Put it back together thinking it was some other issue and it worked. Must have been a bad connection. Thanks for the super simple quick instructions. ++++++++++

Very helpful today. Turns out my actuator was only "stuck" once I shoved it manually it went back to correct operation (no replacement required...yet!) Thanks for showing exactly what to look for.
If only all you tube videos were as quick, concise, and to the point! Don’t know yet if this is my daughter’s issue, but either way, I learned something valuable. Thank you!
Great video; however my air duct's removal was the most difficult part of the job. I highly recommend splitting the air duct prior to attempting to removing, it made it much easier. The same can be said as to the reinstallment of the air duct, install the part that clips to the vehilce first, followed by the end that snaps to the air duct.
Yeah, that little doo dad that you weren't sure of, (at about 2:40) is the control unit for the automatic transmission, or TCM. It has 2 connectors that run the length of the bottom of the module, both with locking squeeze tabs. They require a firm pull straight down after squeezing the lock tab, to disconnect, and a firm push to reseat. I normally disconnect the negative battery terminal before disconnecting electrical connectors, especially when they connect to a computer, but I failed to do that this time and wound up with a U0101 fault code. I disconnected the battery, and went back in to reseat, and discovered one of the connectors wasn't locked in all the way. I don't know if the code was the result of failure to disconnect the battery, or failure to properly seat the connector, but I suspect the latter. Anyway, I was able to clear the code with my little cube code reader even though it said it couldn't be cleared that way. Thanks for the video, it helped me bypass a dodgy hvac control module so that I could have heat while I await the part to arrive.
I'm having the same problem (not blowing warm) and am doing the research to help me troubleshoot it. I have read that if you've narrowed it down to a dead blend door actuator, no movement out of the arm, etc, before you go to the trouble of removing and replacing the actuator, try unplugging the actuator, plug it back in, and see if the actuator now moves. Some people have reported this "reboot" got their actuator functioning again. It may or may not work for you, but it's worth a quick try before replacing it.
Oh man!! I just finished replacing my heater core shedding serious blood sweat and tears, and of course I still have no heat! Ughhhhhh!! This is my next endeavor! Thank you so much! I can’t think of what else it could be! I swear I hear my actuator working, but maybe it’s something else! Back to the grind! 😂 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼

This was a great video, but I would recommend you tell folks to remove the bracket that is next to the floor vent and held on by two 8 mm bolts, this provides enough room to actually get your hands in there. ALSO, I would strongly recommend you tell folks to REMOVE the driver's seat (a pretty simple task) to allow room to work. I notice in your video there are two bolts laying on the floorboard that appear to match the front seat retaining bolts. BTW the floor vent was really hard to pull out.. :)
Thanks man! I was actually able to just take the front panels off and reach in and unplug and plug back in the blend door actuator electrical and that worked for me. Must’ve been loose or needed to be reset

Great video. Thanks. My only issue was when pulling out the heat duck, it was hitting the side of the trim and won't allow it to come out. After removing the radio dash surround, I could see what it was hitting on and I just had to pull the trim that is under the steering next to the heater control out a little while I was pulling the duct out. Came right out once I could see.
@@stephenwayne7055 Basically small metal tubing with 'fins' that acts like a car radiator to distrubute heat/cold into the car. They're usually buried behind the dashboard and can clog up if the car is left standing for long periods.
Awesome vid Bro. Completely thorough yet shorter than many other vids that only cover half of the info ... Thanks! Getting the lower duct off was my issue. You covered that!
3:03-3:10 took me 25 minutes;) Other than that, your video was spot on and did the trick. Good stuff, thank you. FYI, the blend door actuator is Dorman #604-029.
Thanks for the video, after watching this, mine was just stuck also. Now if I ever do have to replace the part, I know where it is and where to get the replacement.
Thanks for the video!.....going to try this out. Had my coolant and thermostat changed about a month ago....everything worked great until a few days ago. Getting only 110 to 120 degree heat in the dash registers now....was getting much higher before.
No problem, glad to help out. Definitely start by making sure the engine is getting fully up to operating temperature. If it is then more than likely it's just the blend door
In your case. You may need to pull one of the heater hoses and fill them with fluid. If it's not the blend door, it's just air in the line to the heater.
@@craigmitchels272, well it wasn't the blend door. That was operating correctly. I decided to remove all the coolant and replace it. Also back-flushed the heater core and "burped" the system......that seemed to do the trick. The heating temp went from 120F to 145F....outstanding!
Great Video. I'll do this to my 2015 Rubicon to eliminate the overheating problem I'm having. The reservoir keeps getting full, so I have to re-fill the radiator (but not losing antifreeze). I hope this solves my problem. Thanks
I do have a question for you, I found your video well looking for a "how to flush your heater core" video. I also just changed my engine coolant temperature sensor. Should I have had engine coolant spill out of the sensor port when I remove the original. I have a 2013 Jeep Wrangler rubicons 3.6.
@@NoNonsenseKnowHow I figured so, I asked because I didnt get any spillage, but was expecting it to spill out when I removed the sensor. I'll check the fluid level next. Thanks for your reply.
Hey bro! Thanks. Went really smooth. Mine didn’t even need replacing, the plug was just disconnected. However I have a problem now. Check engine went on. What did I mess up? Lol
(2013 Jeep Wrangler JK) so the problem was the actuator so this video was very helpful! However when I plug the actuator in the arm spins 360 degrees, is there any way to change that? I haven't screwed on the actuator to the frame because I'm afraid the plastics gears will just strip or burn out.
Did you check that both your heater core hoses are hot? If so yeah should just be the actuator. But like I showed in the video, you can get in there and manually put it into the hot position if you want heat now
great video, really helped. i was able to diagnose, get into the area and swap out the actuator that said, still no heat on the driver side :( any advice?
Does your coolant reservoir to the left side of the radiator have a bunch of precipitate at the bottom of it? If it does there is a chance your heater core is plugged. Not sure what year you have but my 2013 got a new radiator and heater core last spring due to a common issue with either casting sand or "something" floating around in the coolant system and eventually clogging the small passages in the heater core and radiator. Do a little searching and you'll unfortunately read all about it. Some fairly basic tools, the right parts, and patience and you can do all of this in your driveway though.
@@rosst7004 didn't work for me either - still trying to figure it out ... for now, just circulating the air through the defog settings and wearing extra socks lol
What should I look for if the plastic arm is what's broken? My friend can't change the climate from hot to cold nor vise versa. I was on quadratec for a half hour trying to find that part. It's one of the white plastic arms at 4:03.
Thank you. My air blows, fast and slow, etc. but it is just stuck on cold (for both driver/passenger/floor/windshield/etc) even when I turn the center knob to hot. My engine bay hoses are nice and hot too. Will this fix in your video work based on my current situation? Thank you again. Is the fix the same with auto climate control? My center temp control knob has numbers on it for degrees and an auto setting. Thank you
Awesome stuff mate. My heaters stopped working 2 days ago. looked at your clip and fixed it. Actuator on the LH side must have got stuck, but working now. Know now where to look if it happens again. Greetings from Australia. Thanks.
@@7arsenal Hey. For what I can remember, I removed the linkage from the motor, and tried to move it by hand while turning the dial from heat to cold. Also check if the air vent isn't jamming up. That's all I got. Hope it helps.
Okay so after doing mine. I figured out these things will always fail over time. When you turn the knob to half way from cold , it’ll be fine but one you turn it back to cold or hot it’ll go spin way beyond the stopping point. The pressure will cause it to stop, but the power is still there.. causing teeth to break and motors. SO DONT SET YOUR TEMPS BACK AND FORTH TOO QUICKLY. It’ll cause it to over spin when it returns.. causing them to damage. My original motor was good. But popped out of the rails.
Great video. I've got a 2017 JKU. I was able to just tap my blend door actuator to get it to start working again. This is my third winter this "fix" has worked. I guess it's a stuck motor in my case? Moving the arm would do the same I would assume. Thank you for the video.
Nice. Great video. I had 4 videos lined up to watch, but this one says it all. You pointed out everything that might be going wrong, so I'll be checking all that in the morning. Thanks for posting this.
OK - So I watched the other videos anyway just for a comparison, and I kept wanting to pop the link to your video into a comment and tell them to go see how an instructional should be done. Hey, I’m wondering if this might work the other way. My JK 2011 is not blowing cold air. I just had it regassed and the mechanic thinks it might be the evaporator. This will cost me many dollars if so.
Hey bud I dont have heat when i’m going slow or idling but my rpm’s is up like while i’m going 50 or 60 or up a hill do u think that’s the one of the actuators
@@NoNonsenseKnowHow alright found what the problem with the heat was but the actuator is knocking but it’s coming from passenger side dash and all the videos I’ve looked up just showed under steering wheel sorry for all the questions
Great Video! I’ll see if this works for me this week, ordered the new actuator. How do I check to see if the actuator is actually getting power before I install the new one? My actuator doesn’t move when changing from hot to cold either. But the day it happened I was putting in an “add a circuit” in the fuse box and may have interrupted the circuit for the HVAC? Fuse number 15 , and possibly 11 also, I took out and put back in by mistake. Could that have caused this. I really need to get this solved before the cold weather is here, and dread taking it to the dealer... any advice would be really appreciated. Thank you
Try tapping the existing actuator with a screwdriver to see if it moves. Sometimes they just hit a little dead spot. And otherwise I would just plug the new one in and see if it works and then go from there.
Well I’m happy to report that is exactly what it was. I got the vent box out and the actuator starting working again. I think it’s so close to the vent box it gets hung up on it, I saw where there were marks right where the arms from the actuator was hitting it. So I didn’t reinstall the floorboard vent box back, instead I hooked up flex hosing over the vent outlet and guided it down toward the floorboard. It actually has better flow now too. So a big high five to you and your help on the problems our Jeeps are having with this issue.
Perfect mix of on-target information and visuals, without a lot of needless blather and self-promotion. Heater is now working - thanks!

Great video, blocked heater matrix is also a known cause for no heat, which can be flushed out fairly easily.
And thank you for your feedback!
Yes. I've seen one or two.
What is a heat matrix?
@@stephenwayne7055 Basically small metal tubing with 'fins' that acts like a car radiator to distrubute heat/cold into the car. They're usually buried behind the dashboard and can clog up if the car is left standing for long periods.
@@alanhowson6061 oh OK, just never heard it called that. Thanks
Thanks for the video I tapped on my actuator and it started working. Hopefully it stays working.
Thanks brother you were a big help now my heat is working before it gets cold out here in nyc
Awesome to hear and thanks for dropping a comment!
Awesome vid Bro. Completely thorough yet shorter than many other vids that only cover half of the info ... Thanks! Getting the lower duct off was my issue. You covered that!
Glad it helped!
So I just bought wrangler 08 and it did blows some hot one side and cold air from one side. I'll try that out. Thank you for sharing friend
No problem! Good luck getting it fixed. If you look down in the comments, a few people discussed having a similar issue is you
Great information ....Saved me allot of time trouble shooting will let you know after blend door actuator is replaced . Thanks
3:03-3:10 took me 25 minutes;) Other than that, your video was spot on and did the trick. Good stuff, thank you. FYI, the blend door actuator is Dorman #604-029.
Awesome to hear the video was helpful and I appreciate the feedback! Thanks
How did you get the top screw out? I can’t seem to fit a screw driver up there
@@MrAidan97 Socket screw driver

Did you need a scan tool that the Dorman tech notes tell u to do?
Great video! I've got the opposite issue, heat stays on, I'll give this a try!
Excellent Educator for no heat in jeep commander
Worked great - great tip on breaking the duct into 2 pieces. Thx!!
Awesome to hear! And I appreciate the feedback
Thanks for the video, after watching this, mine was just stuck also. Now if I ever do have to replace the part, I know where it is and where to get the replacement.
Fixed my heater thanks to this thanks so much
No problem! Great to hear the video was helpful
Great video, 17 jk unl, cold air, no heat, used video to diagnose, was able to unjam the lever, now its functioning, thank u 💪
Nice video. Thanks for sharing. Would it still be on the left hand side on a RHD vehicle
Thanks for the video, saved a ton from having it fixed at the dealership!
That's marvellous to hear that you were able to fix it yourself Sydney! Thanks for commenting
Yes from the $tealership
Great Video. I'll do this to my 2015 Rubicon to eliminate the overheating problem I'm having. The reservoir keeps getting full, so I have to re-fill the radiator (but not losing antifreeze). I hope this solves my problem. Thanks
Great video. I’ll say getting that duct out is easier said than done. Mine broke lol not a big deal since I almost never use the floor air.
Right on man, you gave a quality tutorial there my friend.
Glad you found it useful and thanks for the feedback!
I do have a question for you, I found your video well looking for a "how to flush your heater core" video. I also just changed my engine coolant temperature sensor. Should I have had engine coolant spill out of the sensor port when I remove the original. I have a 2013 Jeep Wrangler rubicons 3.6.
@@richgran I'm not sure I understand your question. Yeah it's normal for some coolant to spill out of the temp sensor port
@@NoNonsenseKnowHow I figured so, I asked because I didnt get any spillage, but was expecting it to spill out when I removed the sensor. I'll check the fluid level next. Thanks for your reply.
Sometimes it doesn't spill if the system is completely full and the radiator cap is on. That is normal also
Hey bro! Thanks. Went really smooth. Mine didn’t even need replacing, the plug was just disconnected. However I have a problem now. Check engine went on. What did I mess up? Lol
Thanks for the video! Fixed my heat and my daughter and wife are warm. Lol
no prob! and awesome
Great video !!!! I had to replace my actuator today and your video helped me out. Thank you.
You are amazing and saved me so much annoyance with taking it to a shop.🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Hey, awesome to hear It helped dave ya some time and money.
I just ordered an actuator. Hopefully that'll take care of mine. I've already flushed the radiator with no luck. It's been in the 20s all week here.
Did you check that both your heater core hoses are hot? If so yeah should just be the actuator. But like I showed in the video, you can get in there and manually put it into the hot position if you want heat now
@@NoNonsenseKnowHow yeah, they both get hot
@@bikermiller you should be good then
Wow, THANK you bro!
I have a '16 Patriot but everything is similar to Wrangler. I just needed to give my actuator a few taps. Great vid, info man.
I live in Orlando and its a 2016 with 11k miles. I just never used it. I will occasionally turn it to test.
ohh gotcha. cool
Thank YOU....great guidance having same problem on my 2013 jk.
No problem and awesome to hear that it was helpful
Hello thanks for the info and
Supper great video!!!!
It helps me a lot in case the heater ever starts running cold
No problem! Thanks
great video, really helped.
i was able to diagnose, get into the area and swap out the actuator
that said, still no heat on the driver side :(
any advice?
Excellent to hear you found it helpful. It sounds like another actuator might be jammed for salty causing it to only blow hot on the driver side
Ill admit...when I lost drivers side heat I switched out the blend door first in hopes it would be that easy. For me it was not.
@@rosst7004 didn't work for me either - still trying to figure it out ... for now, just circulating the air through the defog settings and wearing extra socks lol
@@rosst7004 i had it looked at, mechanic said that the coolant looked fine - i have a 2011, 340,000 kms on it, happy it is only happening now
Thanks brother!! Big hands in small places, I’ll give her a shot.👍
What should I look for if the plastic arm is what's broken? My friend can't change the climate from hot to cold nor vise versa. I was on quadratec for a half hour trying to find that part. It's one of the white plastic arms at 4:03.
did you have some warmth on the passanger side but all cold on the drivers side before the actuator replacement
We followed your steps and have heat again! Thanks!
awesome. and no prob!
Thank you
More than likely this would fix it. But got to get in there and take a look to confirm
Thank you! 🙏
Brother you are the man thank you for posting this video I now have heat 🔥
Awesome stuff mate. My heaters stopped working 2 days ago. looked at your clip and fixed it. Actuator on the LH side must have got stuck, but working now. Know now where to look if it happens again. Greetings from Australia. Thanks.
Happy to hear the video helped you out. Thanks for dropping a comment.
How did you get it unstuck? Mine doesn’t move when I turn the dial for heat/cold.
@@7arsenal Hey. For what I can remember, I removed the linkage from the motor, and tried to move it by hand while turning the dial from heat to cold. Also check if the air vent isn't jamming up. That's all I got. Hope it helps.
Great video! Any insights on what would cause my JK from only blowing air out of the defrost vents?
The actuator behind the glove box it's kind of to the left little bit wide open view probably not working
Thanks and glad to hear the video was helpful! Hopefully just keep tapping at each year and good to go.
Great "How To" video. Thanks
Gunna try it today and see if it helps! Great video!
Nice. Great video. I had 4 videos lined up to watch, but this one says it all. You pointed out everything that might be going wrong, so I'll be checking all that in the morning. Thanks for posting this.
Awesome man, good luck on the repair and glad to hear I made it in the rankings! lol. lmk how you make out
OK - So I watched the other videos anyway just for a comparison, and I kept wanting to pop the link to your video into a comment and tell them to go see how an instructional should be done. I didn't want to be mean though, so I won't do that. Your video is far superior in every way. It's quick and to the point, no nonsense, no cutesy video tricks... nothing but what I needed to see. Looking back, maybe I didn't have to remove the floor air duct? Anybody know?
You have more room if u do
Well this saves me a lot of time now.
Hoping this works on the 07 to 11 jk had heat this morning turned it over to cold and can’t get heat back
Thanks. Mine was just stuck in the down position. Just needed an adjustment 🔨 to move again
WOW awesome explanation and demonstration!!
Thanks Bob. Appreciate the feedback
You saved me so much money! God Bless you
Hey, I’m wondering if this might work the other way. My JK 2011 is not blowing cold air. I just had it regassed and the mechanic thinks it might be the evaporator. This will cost me many dollars if so.
sweet quick and on point!
I have the same problem on the 2.2 crd jeep Compass. Do you think the problem and the piece are the same?
Did you ever find out what that module is that you took out before you took out the vent? the reason i ask is because my JK doesnt have one.
My hubsand can do everything he changed ours today yeh no video needed for him ❤❤❤❤❤
Thank you so much for the well done video! Very helpful, thorough and quick!!!!!
Hey bud I dont have heat when i’m going slow or idling but my rpm’s is up like while i’m going 50 or 60 or up a hill do u think that’s the one of the actuators
No. It's probably low on coolant or has air pockets in the system. That or faulty thermostat
Ok I’ll try this tomorrow before the actuator arrives. Thanks for your advice for all of us, you’ve been a great help. Much appreciated 👍
@@ricksantiago4422 excellent to hear you got it rectified. Appreciate the update as well
