It actually started out at normal tempo for a split second and it just kept getting faster. I'd love to see how many bpm's it increased. The studio version is 150bpm this must have wound it's way up to at least 180bpm. I bet his heart was'nt far off that as well.
@@danieleromei1949 Idk, this is fine for fast songs but his performance of "Yellow Brick Road" at the same concert isn't great, speeding up that song doesn't really work :D

"Here's a performance of Crocodile Rock where the technical director was on just as many drugs as Elton was." As distinct from the 1984 Cup Final where Elton John's Watford players were on tranquilisers. God, we were crap.
Nigel did well to keep up with Elton. Usually the drummer is the timekeeper but the roles were switched that night and when the coke kicked in the excitement happens.

Always the showman. Tempo was a bit too fast, almost like he was going to trip over himself, but I'm sure there was plenty of coke snorted beforehand. Still fun!
Whenever people say that coke makes for better performances, I'll show them this video. Short performances sure. Hectic, unfocused performances where the musician is more invested in how silly they can make they're performance, rather than the music or the audience (look how fast he leaves) definitely. But better? Nah. Not really. I get that his voice has changed, and not necessarily for the better, but I would take a modern Elton performance, over this coked-up mess any day of the week!
You are crazy. This performance was top notch. Look at his hands playing the piano. Looks like he is smacking a bass. Crocodile rock is a perfect song for this fast pace too.
Usually because you can barely see the performer behind a massive grand piano!! Side on you can see the performer actually playing the piano and the player is concentrating on playing rather than looking towards the crowd. IMO
This has got to be the most 80s editing of alll time!
I agree with you. I mean this was 1984 and this editing style seems appropriate at that time.

because of how fast he disappeared from the stage I can assume that the reason they played this song so fast is that John wanted to pee very badly
Or there was 2g of coke waiting for him backstage.
I heard EJ used to snort a line of cocaine every 4 minutes when not on stage. I think it's more likely that he was going back to snort another line.
