- In 1914, three famous friends -- Thomas Edison, the "Wizard" of electricity; Henry Ford, the pioneer auto-maker; and John Burroughs, best-selling nature writer -- trekked into the wilds for a camping adventure in the Everglades. Their campfire camaraderie inspired a series of camping trips throughout the next decade. Joined by another famous friend, tire manufacturer Harvey Firestone, the "Four Vagabonds" explored a changing America, finding rest -- and inspiration -- in the nation's great outdoors.

An antique car magazine that I got in 53 and still have showed Ford and his friends camping including Alexander Graham Bell and Edison and the model T chuck wagon cook he had built for their trips. Would you have loved to listen to those guys talk.
Ford is my favorite manufacturer but this documentary was nice to listen to and watch
Excellent. The actor voicing Firestone seems to be doing a good Jason Robards impression, Robards having lent his voice to many a documentary.
Absolutely fascinating. I can't imagine myself headed into the Everglades
I’ll never get tired of this that’s for sure
The mixed feelings I have of hearing them complain about the oppressive press coverage of their trips, but without it we wouldn’t have ANY of these amazing images. This would only be a podcast.
Nice piece. A significant slice of history that you don't get from the usual documentaries. Thanks for sharing. :)
Yep, you won't usually get that kind of vid on free to air commercial telly. But it should be shown on commercial telly, more offen.
This is a wonderful video presentation about Edison, Ford and company and the trips they took over a ten year period. I found this documentary to be an excellent visual companion to a book I recently purchased entitled "The Vagabonds: The Story of Henry Ford and Thomas Edison's Ten-Year Road Trip" by Jeff Guinn. Great historical stuff!
Llllllllllllllllll
Ford, was a real man. He took no nonsense, not even from his son.
this is cool..always love edison and ford
Fantastic, amazing
I met Harvey Firestone jr in 1973 in Reno
Es ist eine tolle Dokumentation
Going into a swamp like the Everglades out of a love of nature? I suspect all the mosquitoes would teach a hatred of it.
They probably hired locals to wander off into the woods naked to lure the mosquitoes away.😂
Always wonder how the researchers for visual fillers in these pieces always get the details wrong. The group did these trips from 1914-1924. If you want to show a moving model T … show one from that period; there are plenty around. In one scene there’s even a model A.
How come they didn't show any of the massive cypress tree
Maybe if I complain about a fowl! old; Hemi driven Charger?
That guy 4 minutes in comparing Burroughs to modern musicians had a terrible comparison. Musicians existed back then and there were just as many famous ones as there were book writers. I would've compared his fame to that of an actor or modern scientist like Hawking or Tyson, Sagan, or Kaku.
