  • Welcome to the final episode of project Chicago, 2008 Alpina E65 B7. It's been a long journey, but we made it! In this last chapter, we take the B7 back to Alpina in Buchloe, where they gave us a warm welcome. We go on a tour of the entire Alpina facilities, see their production and process of building special cars. Mr. Andreas Bovensipen, the CEO of Alpina, takes project Chicago for a spin and we talk about Alpina's future and their motorsport heritage. Also, Jarax, the E65 guru from Czech Republic comes over for a visit and to inspect the Alpina. The total price breakdown of this project towards the end of the video.

Sreten at first talked to some stuck up customer support guy, not to someone who has anything to say in that company. They also did nothing in particular wrong, as I can recall. They told him that the engine shouldn't be repaired like that, which turned out to be true, since the engine literally blew up after 100km. They also would have sold him a replacement part, just like they would have to any other customer. They just didn't want to give him parts for free, which is totally understandable.

I love your channel. I am 69 years old and have always been a domestic car man , the USA. Corvettes in particular and older types. You have amazed me with your attention to detail on the engine rebuilds and everything else you tackle. You are fearless in getting to the nuts and bolts of the problem. Now, I am fascinated with BMW's. When you took apart the Maserati you complained about how it was designed the whole time. Then after watching many of your videos, I realized that the Beamer was built to be repaired as easily as possible just like you had been commenting throughout your work, and the Italian piece of junk was never meant to be repaired. Unfortunately, in the U.S. we do not have the Autobahn or other areas where we can test our work. Why build a machine that can do 200km/h when you cant drive it. Well, I build for the pleasure and an occasional high-speed law breaking drive around the interstate. I really admire your talent. You found a job that you love and that makes you a lucky man. Like I commented above I am now a BMW junkie.

I'm captivated and enthralled by this episode, especially listening to Andreas speaking. I live in Brisbane, Australia and have 2 E28's an M535i and another left the factory as an m535i, but in 1996 it got an Alpina B10 kit from Alpina, Australia, who eventually lost their "Alpina" accreditation due to doing some uncertified modifications apparently. But after 2025, to go to Buchloe, Germany and have it fully modified to the full OEM "Alpina" certification, see the factory would be great. We have right hand drive cars in Australia, and the B7 turbo interferes with the steering box, so to get full certification, I would have to just do the B10, not B7 turbo, but that would be sensational, and understandably expensive if possible.

A lot of times those dips are caused by the ignition pickup on the dyno. Sometimes the frequency and noise inherent to high-voltage ignition systems cause feedback at certain rpms and that interferes with the pickup. You can see if it disappears when you use wheel speed on the Y axis since this eliminates the pickup; if it has that option.

I have known and been a fan of Alpina for over 25 years. It is very good video. Never seen Bovensipen showing all these things around. I have driven e30 Alpina it was amazing. For me the best are the old turbo charged Alpinas based on M30 engines - those are the fastest 4 door cars of its time in the world. Amazing video - thank You for it.

    God-Tier 7 series!
I’ve held this opinion before you’ve proudly owned this car, Sir. I’ve said an innumerable amount of times; the E65 Alpina B7 is the sexiest 7 series of all time. No contest. No contention. Bar none. The GOAT.
    I’m so elated for you!!

an emotional episode, both for its commitment and for remembering Alpina cars, rare cars in Brazil, but which we saw in foreign magazines and loved. Thanks Sreten.

THANK YOU SRETEN for an ~amazing~ journey in this epic restoration. I cannot begin to express how sad I am that Alpina has sold out to BMW, but I guess they saw the writing on the wall in terms of the limited days of the beloved ICE. Slapping an Alpina badge on a glorified sewing machine motor is something to which I will never become accustomed. Que sera, sera. Thank you Alpina for a lifetime of amazing racing and automobile performance memories!!

I have to say I love the petrol engines but seeing that they are focusing on diesel performance makes me happy (E53 3.0d X5 here). Absolute ly delightful atmosphere throughout the whole video! And finally I really was relieved by the fact that you sold the project. As you said way too much money invested. Keep up the good work and make our dreams of an issue free BMW alive! Thank you Sreten!!!!

What makes this channel and video so good? Understated and humility. It’s refreshing compared to the hours of shouting click bait out there.

what a bunch of legends, both the cars and the staff at Alpina. Cars and engines built with the heart, what's not to like.

Smart PR move from Alpina. They recognised how many viewers this has, and took the opportunity to quietly tell everyone, "we'll be doing this soon, so no need to take your car to some guy in a shed."
The CEO was very charming, but I could tell many of his questions about the restoration were more than friendly curiosity...

Dude, this is such an incredible journey that you have captured. It was such a fantastic thing to watch. I'm so happy that you wound up selling it for a good price and that it goes to a good owner. You are an amazing person and I love your channel. Thank you so much for the chance you took in this business that you are now running and I wish you nothing but the best. Be well my friend.

Streten has become a legend in the BMW/Alphina circles it’s beautiful to see his hard work and passion being recognised by BMW Classic and now Alpina, it’s going to be bitter sweet to sell the B7 I think you are the only person to overcome the challenges with this car to get one back in top order! Cant wait for the E92 M3 and hope you will have another Alpina in the future
