I'm just building a chameleon with your motors and the Holybro AIO v2 fc i am installing the fc 180° so the battery leads are at the top not the bottom. This video is exactly what i needed. Really easy to follow your instructions. Thank you. 👍👍
Thanks, Tommy. My Sailfly FC just craped out. needed to put an F3 I had around. couldn't get it right. You pushed me in the right direction on the CLI resource motor mapping. You make it so much easier than others might make it.
The single most comprehensive content on this subject I have seen, you have efficiently provided this much needed info in your classic Tommy way, keep being the best you possible, you will continue to grow and end up a true heavyweight in the Industry as wekl as this hobby. Thanx Tommy! Stay Kind!
i always solder my wires to the bottom of the board on the matek so no need for this but i think its great to show people how simple this is to do with a little thinking ahead and common sense great video
Got my Remix and thought I set this right. Nope. Flip O death. Then I found this video. Big help. Betaflight confused me with the 180 CW drop down selection. Tip: Type the value in! Oh much I am happier now. And I got purple props. LOL I already knew about the motor switcharoo. The visual aid is very helpful.
I had to do this with my MatekF405 OSD and FCHUB6S combo, as I didn’t want my XT60 coming out the rear of my frame. My USB is now at the rear of the frame but it’s the Skitzo Dark Matter so I still have easy access to the USB port. Helpful video Tommy, I could have been done with this a couple months ago. 😃
my girlfriend was like what in the... I had a note paper filled both sides with numbers and arrows. For some reason this is harder than life itself. haha
Professor Tommy, this is gold my man. I'm eagerly awaiting delivery of my Remix and I'll be using the Hobbywing F4 Stack. Thank you for the great video.
Hey Tommy, ran into a small problem setting up the Hobbywing resourcing. Followed your video and remapped all 4 motors and in betaflight all motors are now identified correctly. I had to change the motor direction in BLHeli Config on the mac but for some reason motor 1 is spinning CW instead of CCW, I have tried changing from normal to reverse and even tried bidirectional reverse in BLHELI made sure I saved and exited, but no matter what I try Motor 1 is still not spinning the correct direction. Motors 2,3 and 4 are correct. Any ideas?? I checked and the motors wires are straight to the corresponding pads on the HW 4in1(ie not twisted) My resource is M1-A03 M2-A02 M3-B00 M4-B01 I'm stuck as to what to try next ???
If you are able to spin the motor in the motor tab, then I'm not sure what's up. Technically that ESC is seeing a signal which is all that blheli needs to change things. Have you tried it before the remapping?
the only way I could get around the problem, was to cross solder 2 of the motor 1 wires to the 4in1. When I done that and went back into BF, the motor now spins correctly. Not an idea fix but it will get me in the air for a maiden test until I work out what the issue is. The FC is running the latest firmware but I haven't flashed the ESC, it is stock out the box, was reluctant to start messing with ESC firmwares if I don't have to. With regard to BLHELI, I moved the min/max sliders to 1050 and 2000 as they were set to were numbers about 1156 and 1989 for each ESC ? Left it on medium timing. I'll give it a try as soon as I get my crossfire Micro RX, they seem to all be out of stock at the moment here in the UK and I don't want to strip any of my other builds. Thanks Tommy for your help. Can't wait to rip the REMIX lol.
Great tip. I can usually do this in my head but it hurts. I once did this at 3 in the am then reflashed the next morning and forgot to remap. Quad went spinning over my house into my neighbors yard during the test hover...lol.
Really love how it goes on the channell (and the hobby too)..i love you guy ( no homo) for making that quality frame. Jeep pushing high. I look for buying your frame (the lipo scares me a bit)..but in France, Ummagawd, we're late or abandonned😢 . Love watching your Channel Mr tommy. Remix!!!!
I use the floss2 with the Lumenier Alpha Stack that has that SAF USB in front. Luckily with the RunCam mini and the space of the frame it was not an issue with a right angle USB plug but I totally agree with you. Major "what the F where they thinking" keep it up bro this conte t rocks and in done with RR but I watch all your vids.
Excellent timing on this video. I received my Remix frame today and started fitting it together. This tutorial will really help me set up the FC properly. Will you be doing a full build video on the remix soon? I’m having trouble with the best placement of the RX and video TX.
Thanks umaggawd. Wish i could be on the quad camp so i can learn more but this would help for other pilots thats from another country. Wish the rotor riot would come here to GUAM.😁🖒🤙
Thanks Tommy it's great info as I start to build the Remix with hobbywing x Rotor FC/AIO ESC stack. Do you know where the smart port wire (X4RSB) goes to on the FC? is there a dedicated pin or do you have to turn TX6 into a soft serial?
What’s up Tommy! Thanks for your awesome tutorials and I hope you can answer this question soon 🙏 I followed your video to rotate my AIO like your first example and it flies but I’m experiencing some twitching and motor heat. Please help me because it’s driving me insane!😜 much mahalos from Hawaii bro!👍🏽🤙🏽😃
I just copy paste the resource in notepad, edit as I go trough them in motor tab checking motor directions. then copy paste all of them from notepad into CLI and save. I never free them. works every time. I do like the way you explain it though :)
thats how I do it too... in fact I keep a notepad of all my FCs and their orientations so that I just copy and paste it now. But I found that I had to explain it this way to someone else before it "clicked" in their head. So I decided to make a video explaining it this way.
Aio boards that mount in a star pattern, i want to mount straight, the new mamba aio! So 25*25 do i just yaw -45°? Thankyou i understand the motor ordering ,great video
Thanks for sharing these tips Tommy. Always handy to break down how motor mapping works... Curious to know if there is any reason why not to just set the board alignment 90 or 270 degrees?
Hi David - there are 2 different things I was addressing in this video (that in hindsight now, I wish i spent more time explaining). There's board/gyro orientation, and there's motor mapping/assignment. The former can be handled in the GUI like you said, but the latter is for when you have an FC or ESC stack in which you're suppose to wire to a specific corner. In that case, motor/ESC #1 may actually be wired to pad #3 on your FC/ESC
So I'm lying in bed thinking about my 3' quad that was wigging out when I accelerated thinking fml, now im watching this video thinking "fuck that's my problem right here"... I took this fc board from another build and swapped it out and forgot to orient the fc!! So I got out of bed mind you it's now 11pm and I gotta get up at 3am for work, but you know what I got this bitch working 🤣🤣🤣 thanks Tommy 🤙🏾🤙🏾
Hey Tommy! Great video! I actually have a question about the end of the video... you do a flip and then follow a red sports car for awhile... Was that on your "long range" equipment that you have listed or was it done with another setup? Can't wait to see you at Kwad Camp Detroit!!! Thanks!
I will mount a flight controller upside down Now I gave 180 degree on roll axis this is ok. Now if I want to change the yaw axis with inverted placement then should I give the value of the direction in which I want to change or should I give the opposite value?
Hey tommy can you tell me more about your fc youre using? Because i have an sp racing f3 and i fly like crap. But when i see your videos flying youre flying like butter with your kwad. So is it because you have an f4 boar or because of my pids? What would be cool is if you do more build videos especially tiny whoops. :)
R. K. I also fly an sprf3 board and it flies fine. lower grade components will take more tuning to obtain butter. I dont know your setup but if your having issues with wobble or anything in nature of the quad ( not ykur stick inputs) its most likely your pids. check out stingerswarms pid tuning video where he los tunes his quad. it helped me get a basic understanding of pid tuning. im nlt perfect but i got a decent tune on my beater quad and my wifes mrs.k fpv and both fly great. pm me on fb if you need some help. im always willing to help out.
i run the hobbywing F4 AIO stack... F3 boards are fine too... I suggest running anti-virbation standoffs and enabling dynamic_filtering. Having a sweet flying kwad is all about having a clean build and PID tuning (all on good quality components).
Thank you for sharing your Insight.... Being that I'm new to it I was wondering if you could actually flip over a flight controller and thought maybe it might mess up the gyro somehow .... By the way you can use the word muck instead of 🦆 lol .... By the way I do believe I'm going to be using your frame for one of my first builds... I know you probably don't want to hear it but the other one is going to be from armattan and it maybe the rooster ... But when I build yours I'm going to do the split battery design and run one on the bottom and one on the top and see how well that works out...
the rooster is a great frame, no reason for me to hate. I'd recommend against a split battery design. The whole point of the remix was to bring the center of mass, to the center. By splitting, you are moving mass to the other edges of the axis. If you get it the weight evenly distributed, it'll probably fly fine, so curious to see what you find. But I found it easier to just bring everything to the center. Good luck man!
Tommy you always have the best vids, flights, and tutorials! I tried this and everything looks as it should it BF (reassigned motors and FC alignment), but it's still not taking off properly. For my Board alignment, I set my yaw 270 degrees versus -90. Is 270 degrees and -90 the same thing? Or does BF see them as different?
@@ummagawdFPV Thanks ummagawd! Appreciate you! I'll try it tonight when I get home. Been a fan before the days of ummagawd immersionrc 250! Keep up the good stuff!!
I just completed my second build and ran into a problem, while setting up in Betaflight I spooled up the motors to ensure proper spinning direction and only had motors 1 & 3 spin up. After reflection I realized I had soldered to the motors 5 & 6 signal pads, it's a 20*20 FC and they are on the bottom exactly opposite the 2&4 motor signal pads. I remembered your video and figured I should be able to reassign the signal pad associated to 5&6 to Resource motors 2&4. I think this is the best solution, any thought? Thank you.
my first quad is not working.. everything in betaflight looks good much the flight board arrow points left.. so does that mean i have to do this to sold the problem?
Your showing it as if it was a side mount. Only being turned 90 degrees. Im sure alot of people will mess up following. You show the quad you base this video on real fast. So if someone like me mounted the fc 180 degrees your set up will make there quad go crazy. Just a heads up. You should clarify this. But you def help me
To the comments below, or to anyone. if you plug your F.c in you can see in the orientation in the configuration tab in Betaflight. plug it in, and look at the model, pitch it forward, yaw etc, and you will find out real quick how it is orientated.
What if you are using a 4 in 1 ESU and FC combo that is connected together already by a cable would you still need to do this if flipping the stack? I am flipping the stack upside down and around 180 so it mounted upside down and facing backward 180 deg. I was thinking that when I changed this in BF configuration it would automatic adjust the motors as well?
there are 2 different things I was addressing in this video (that in hindsight now, I wish i spent more time explaining). There's board/gyro orientation, and there's motor mapping/assignment. Would we be able to mount the FC diagonal?
👍 good job thanks 🙏
No I call you YUmmagawd... thx a mill
Raceflight lets you mount the FC any direction.. then the GUI figures it out for you. Done!
Thank you
Excuse my ignorance but does this method also work if the FC & ESC are turned upside and turned 90* ccw ? Thx
Yes, the values you used will be different obviously but the method should still work
The race flight configurator seems so much more intelligent. Configuring FC orientation AND motor assignments automatically.
You could just repin your connector. But you would still need to do the orientation changes in BF for your FC. Good luck!
@@ummagawdFPV Thanks man all sorted thanks to this vid. Its you guys that make it possible for a newbie like me to build my own drones.
Maybe I’m mistaken, but can’t you just rotate the orientation of the FC in the configuration tab?
