Each set they do some kind of Big Red Enchantment and it's usually not quite good enough to give birth to a powerful deck. But they're fun as hell when they work, that's for sure.
That was never going to work. The real missed opportunity was visions of phyrexia. Card draw every turn like sigardas splendor but actually guaranteed, tho just like that card sees no play
as someone who speaks German quite well, I was really looking forward to hear Seth's rendition of "Totentanz".. and he sure as hell delivered with that one :D
The thing with this card...its better in a golgary deck. At 5 mana you can get glissa and shake down heavy. Both are basically guaranteed to finish off any creature. Are defensive BEHEMOTS and get you even more card advantage. And at 6 you can get the best creature in standard...
Rankle's Prank is like Invoke Despair, but balanced for MTG instead of YuGiOh. Also, Bunnicorn won't be used in token decks. No, that's too tame. It will obviously come followed by the best white creature in standard, motherfucking Adeline, with a 4/4 bunny flying into your face.
I think song of totentanz could be busted, think about how x and a red burn spells can be great finishers and then the rats stick around and you have token doublers, all the cards in the set that care about permanents entering the battlefield, sacrifice synergies, on top of the fact that you could just pay one to give your team haste in the right situation. The card is awesome in so many ways and formats.
Put Bunnycorn in that stupid boros convoke deck with Gleeful Demolition (eg. Voldaran Epicure on 1, Bunnycorn on 2, Demolition on turn 3 and swing with your 6/6 Bunny).
its so ridiculous how like every other card seth is just talking about how it compares to sheoldred. and wizards doesnt think shes format warping enough to ban
Man, I remember when beast of burden was killer because it was P/T equal to creatures and an artifact so they had to make it cost 6 mana. It would still eat a removal every time I played it because it was too powerful. Now for 2 mana you have somthing wayyyy better. I am guessing in 6 years this will cost 1 and in 10 you will generate mana for casting the spell. 2030 magic gonna be wild.
Seth: “Target creature comes out of the card and in real life, destroys home and steals your girl” 😂 Also Seth: “Right away this card reminds me of Bonecrusher Giant” 😂
Vivien Champion of the Wilds' -2 ability is basically impulse draw a creature also, so Feral Encounter isn't the first ever time we've seen green get that effect. Although that ability lets you cast it as long as it remains exiled, so it isn't exactly "true" impulse draw
I can see Rankle's Prank putting work in in a vampire deck filled with madness and lifegain synergies. Ixalan brought us a lot of cheap vampires with lifelink as well as vampire token makers. I think if you can build around at least two of the modes it's a pretty interesting card.
Feral encounter is not an impulse draw in green. It"s just the way to cast creature spell amongst exiled cards, which is much worse than if you could just put it into your hand with kinda Commune with nature or others similar effects.
Not that I enjoy being the soul who pushes up their glasses to correct someone, but Durnan of the Yawning Portal is impulse-ish draw in green. Tlincalli Hunter and Vivien, Champion of the Wilds do so similarly.
Rankles prank looks really insane, if you’re an aggro deck it’s opponent control deck has to discard two and gets burnt for 4 for 4 mana, and if you’re a more controlling midrange deck it’s just a guaranteed 2 for one that the discard might be relevant in for even more, it seems like a card that’s good from ahead or behind because of its flexibility and gives a lot of reach to a black aggro deck, stuff that it doesn’t really get.
It seems better in some of the janky historic decks, where they draw so many extra cards they end up discarding to hand size every turn, as well as not playing any creatures
The first time we came to Eldraine, they gave us the Monty Python Black Knight. This set, they give us the Monty Python Killer Rabbit of Caerbannog. 20:06 I wonder if they'll give us another Monty Python card next time we're in Eldraine.
Virtue of Courage is definitely better than the All Will Be One combo cause it can turn any burn spell into a lethal storm kill, the issue is whether or not it's better enough. Also, if your deck is full of burn spells, lasting to 5 might not be reasonable (the fact that it's a bad burn spell on the front helps a bit).
virtue of courage doesnt seem to make a cut for standard, its basically turn 5 do nothing, if u actually manage to get to 5 lands with mono red, which is quite the hick up to take. at best its gonna be a sideboard card, but even that i wont see happening in standard.
Rankles Prank is pretty strong - put my reanimation targets into gy, take 2 cards from your hand, lower both players life total for life thresholds or loss of life triggers, sac your sticky threat if you have one, sac my fodder. This seems like a slam dunk if you are running cards like blood ghast. The sac 2 is particularly nice as the new manlands can animate to chump a sac 1 edict.
The red Virtue should have been either Magma Jet on the Adventure side or the other side costing 4. This is unplayable outside of Commander burn. Mono Red doesn't want to be casting a do nothing 5 drop, it just doesn't......
I opened a torbran in a pack when eldraine came out and I’ve been playing him as a commander since then and it’s a lot of fun I’m pretty stoked to try virtue of courage.
idk looks sketch to me, like if you're aggro running well youve likely dumped your hand and are racing, so the lose life and discard cards is great, but sac two creatures is terrible, and if you're behind, you lose life and discard cards which most likely just isn't getting you there. i feel like the card is too honest bc it's so symmetrical in almost every way that matters
Virtue of Courage + urabrask is op. urabrask pings an opponent and gives 1 red mana whenever you cast an instant or sorcery, so fill your deck with 1 redmana target damage, like shock or end the festiviites, then just enjoy endless targeted damage (can get screwed on carddraw but im sure there is a work around)
Mono black is gonna continue to be busted smh. Gumdrop Poisoner works really well with the cards that are already in the deck, but it's also a great way of getting a token that you can bargain with the new tutor to make that more consistent.
As both a panharmonicon affiniado, and a believer of Richard's spirited companion as a blocker philosophy I can confidently say that Woodlan Acolyte is the best card of the set for commander (for my decks at least) xD
Song of tont is amazing. I've been wishing I could find a card for 1 mana to give everything jaste and here it is. Let's go I was also wondering..can this go on an isochron sceptor?
That red enchantment is crazy especially since it includes playing lands. If you pair this with omniscience just fill your library with burn spells and ramp
I don't like when Wizards sets a precedent for a particular card/mechanic and then goes and changes it, in this instance its the Adventure mechanic in Throne of Eldraine it was sorcery/instant and a creature and now they're adding enchantments
I'm not saying Rankle's Prank will see a lot of play or anything, but it's MUCH better than Fraying Omnipotence. It's cheaper, you get to choose (you don't have to lose life for instance) and it can even be more impactful, for example if the opponent has exactly two cards in hand or exactly two creatures in play.
How is nobody talking about Virtue of Courage and Imodane, The Pyrohammer in commander? Virtue of Courage with a couple of enablers like Birgi and Urabrask just turns Imodane into a storm deck.
I am shocked people are saying Rankle's prank is ok. You get to choose all the modes that are relevant. Blow up their board, rip apart their hand, speed up the clock (obviously, playing around the symmetrical side)? all for four mana, which mono black already wants to get to to play sheoldred. is modern magic really that powerful that this looks underwhelming?
Did Seth really say that Virtue of Courage will be a Standard staple? This is Circle of Loyalty all over again. The problem is that Invasion of Tarkir takes the slots that Virtue of Courage would have taken.
I'm a little disappointed in the Rat support. I was hoping for some new things to add to my Rat deck or even a cool Rakdos commander but there's really only 2 kinda just ok cards.
In case someone is curious 'Totentanz' is German and essentially means dance of the dead. And yes, Seth's pronounciation got worse with every attempt 😂.
My 2-cents to the cards in a sealed/draft perspective since Seth focus mostly on Commander: Virtue of Courage: It is too expensiv for aggro decks really to be relevant on turn 5. You got a bad shock and that is it. And really doing something this will be happening earliest on turn 6. It is really akward to play this turn 5 and then maybe never draw a single card if you got no pingers or anything really. Even more akward if the damage spell prevents you to cast the exiled card because of beeing tapped out or if it happened during an opponents turn just not beeing able to. 2.5/5 Rankle's Prank: 80% of the times this is just a miss-rare in your pool. The issue here is, that you play it and are tapped out. The opponent is the next one to respond to it. If it was an instant, this could be fringe-playable to EoT discard their hand and have a disruption free turn. Most of the times this is good, you're already the one having the better game state. 0.5/5 Song of Totentanz: Since we got a lot of rat support this is kinda really decent! Sadly they can't block but that just wouldn't feel too red for my taste. Thankfully a lot of the cards that benefit from this are uncommons so it is possible to build around it. Would not first pick it but if you get it as 3-4 pick, you can't do anything wrong picking it up. Also thanks to these Enchanting Tales you got Impact Tremors, Goblin Bombardment and Raid Bombardment to make the most out of this card. BTW even easily splashable! ;) 3/5 Feral Encounter: Something we haven't really seen yet. A effect more red based (exile and play this turn) in green. But also added with a fight that triggers akwardly during the combat step, leaving your opponent some more time to handle the biggest or fightning creature before that. In the end it is green removal with a big upside of posibily replacing itself which green normally doesn't get. Not a first pick but you won't be mad playing it. Again it is a bit akward it just be played that turn but you can chose to ignore the effect and keep the creature in your library. 3.5/5 Regal Bunnicorn: Thanks to all those akward aura tokens created (called roles) you can get it to become bigger than you expect! BUT it can also decrease in P/T faster than you expect. Best thing to do early on is to somehow get an aura (role) or something similar on it to prevent the akward drop to 1/1. A lot of the cards in this set feel a bit... Akward? Because they're best if you're already ahead. Same here. You will pick it up during the mid of picks but nothing to prioritize early on. Only if you get to reliable get the monster role onto it or can generate tokens. Then it gets strong! 3/5 Gumdrop Poisoner: The creating a food token alone is strong in this limited enviroment I'd say. The ETB on this is just "meh" but take it! ;) Also a 3/2 lifelinker for 3 is decent and could be worse. Especially since we got so much stuff that can boost stats. Sadly we are lacking a bit in the life gain effects deparment besides food tokens for this to get really busted. 3.5/5
as someone who plays cadira the way you pronounce her name confuses me sicne you seem to pronounce it like the ir comes after the r even though thats not the case
Ranckle is nowhere near as good as invoke but can still be decent if you buid you deck to break parity. First and most obvious. Liliana and doggo combo. Add the new man land that drains for life. Adventure mechanic. Empty out your hand and tuck your cards safely in exile. Then board wipe and destroy their hand. Lastly the worst but still worth mentioning:vampires. The convoke vampire gains back life and can be discarded. Cheap vampires to sack as well as edgar. With all the blood tokens you win the top decking war.
Compare Virtue of Courage to Syr Carah, the Bold and you can see for the same cost, you get a better trigger condition AND you get triple the cards for each point of damage AND it's harder to remove because it's not a creature AND you get the adventure side just loosing the 3/3 pinger which is INSANITY.
bunnicorn in commander t1 sol ring arcane signet t2 lingering souls bunnicorn t3 lightnning greaves attack berserk the bunnicorn and fork the berserk 28 damage BOOM BOOM BUNNICORN!(31) if u add in the spirit tokens lol!
or the card from new capenna that lets u tap ur lands to make a treasure...lol! attack with bunnicorn..oh no blocks! tap 5 lands make 5 treasures... bunnicorn lightning!
Each set they do some kind of Big Red Enchantment and it's usually not quite good enough to give birth to a powerful deck. But they're fun as hell when they work, that's for sure.
Looking at you city of fire lol
That was never going to work. The real missed opportunity was visions of phyrexia. Card draw every turn like sigardas splendor but actually guaranteed, tho just like that card sees no play
It has to be better than Invasion of Tarkir to be played IMO
True, I was really excited for city on fire but I either didn't have the mana/creatures or by the time I did it was an unnecessary win more card
Big Red with Fires and Cavaliers is a lot of fun in Pioneer/Explorer and it actually can beat the top decks when it has a good draw.
as someone who speaks German quite well, I was really looking forward to hear Seth's rendition of "Totentanz".. and he sure as hell delivered with that one :D
Native German there, Seth totally butchered it 😅
@@Hanmacx yeah he did, that's what I meant too :D
Virtue of Courage will be amazing in Klothys EDH. 6 Cards per turn for the cost of exiling a non-land from a graveyard? Yes please
I do think regal bunnicorn could see some play in boros convoke in pioneer. The amount of permanents that that deck spits into play is hysterical
Feral encounter, is fantastic with adventure cards. Allowing you to cast the adventure and allowing the creature to be accessible for future turns
I like how on Feral encounter, the commute with nature part is a may ability. So, in the worst case, it's a two mana bite spell
The thing with this card...its better in a golgary deck. At 5 mana you can get glissa and shake down heavy. Both are basically guaranteed to finish off any creature. Are defensive BEHEMOTS and get you even more card advantage. And at 6 you can get the best creature in standard...
Song of Tottentäns? Tottenzän? Totten-Dance?
Totentanz is German for "dance of the Dead"
Rankle's Prank is like Invoke Despair, but balanced for MTG instead of YuGiOh.
Also, Bunnicorn won't be used in token decks. No, that's too tame. It will obviously come followed by the best white creature in standard, motherfucking Adeline, with a 4/4 bunny flying into your face.
song of totentaz is so sick, I play 8pyromancer in pioneer, and this is an absolute game ender
Seth am I the only one disappointed by no August bans and then an entire set that only powers up the already meta decks? Especially Sheoldred
Put Bunnycorn in that stupid boros convoke deck with Gleeful Demolition (eg. Voldaran Epicure on 1, Bunnycorn on 2, Demolition on turn 3 and swing with your 6/6 Bunny).
Gumdrop poisoner seems great in anvil. I've been working on jund anvil with wurmlet and that colour combo can gain a shitload of life.
Rankle gonna clap. Its bad vs mono red sure but this seems nuts, especially when you pair with Liliana.
I love how, randomly during Wilds' previews, the smothering tithe anime art is in the background.
its so ridiculous how like every other card seth is just talking about how it compares to sheoldred. and wizards doesnt think shes format warping enough to ban
Man, I remember when beast of burden was killer because it was P/T equal to creatures and an artifact so they had to make it cost 6 mana. I am guessing in 6 years this will cost 1 and in 10 you will generate mana for casting the spell. 2030 magic gonna be wild.
I love how there is a lot of rat support. Feels good to see my favorite creatures getting some much needed love.
Seth: “Target creature comes out of the card and in real life, destroys home and steals your girl” 😂
Also Seth: “Right away this card reminds me of Bonecrusher Giant” 😂
Ahh. I missed a good ol "its good in soul sisters". Im glad we got there :)
Vivien Champion of the Wilds' -2 ability is basically impulse draw a creature also, so Feral Encounter isn't the first ever time we've seen green get that effect. Although that ability lets you cast it as long as it remains exiled, so it isn't exactly "true" impulse draw
I absolutely love the amount of unique design space WotC is exploring in this set.
I can see Rankle's Prank putting work in in a vampire deck filled with madness and lifegain synergies. Ixalan brought us a lot of cheap vampires with lifelink as well as vampire token makers. I think if you can build around at least two of the modes it's a pretty interesting card.

Imodane plus virtue of courage could mill you out haha. What an enchantment. Good thing it is a may ability
It is too expensive for an aggro deck and in a midtange deck it will hurt yourself just as much as the opponent. Card is trash
I wonder if they'll give us another Monty Python card next time we're in Eldraine.
The three mana Vivien from War of the Spark is pretty close to Feral Encounter, minus timing condition.
Nice to meet you Seth probable better known as saffron olive you seem like a cool dude!!! I NEED THAT BUNNY CARD!!!
virtue of courage doesnt seem to make a cut for standard, its basically turn 5 do nothing, if u actually manage to get to 5 lands with mono red, which is quite the hick up to take. at best its gonna be a sideboard card, but even that i wont see happening in standard.
So if you exile a creature with an Adventure you get to still cast both parts of the card so that's cool...
The most important part of virtue of courage? The word may. You can deck yourself SO easy in commander well before you burn your opponents out
Grenzo can be a rat commander and they are Red/Black. so that create X rat spell could work with him.

You skimmed over rankle’s prank but i’m definitely going to try it in Tergrid
Rankle's prank is an insane card in a black aggro deck. Don't know why you undervalue it

Rankles prank seems to fit rather easy into raktos aggro.
Its the perfect last card in hand to cast for those kind of decks
Virtue of Coure + The Howling Abomination is pretty dope
As both a panharmonicon affiniado, and a believer of Richard's spirited companion as a blocker philosophy I can confidently say that Woodlan Acolyte is the best card of the set for commander (for my decks at least) xD
Song of tont is amazing. I've been wishing I could find a card for 1 mana to give everything jaste and here it is. Let's go I was also wondering..can this go on an isochron sceptor?
Loving the Ween shirt! I never knew you were so brown Seth
Against the Odds Rakdos Rats is going to be so good.
Always wondering, what's the background image? Some Japanese promo?
Rankle's Prankles looks like it could be fun in a mono black burn deck in Explorer.
Virtue of Courage
+ Urabrask // The Great Work
And one Mana instant or sorcery spells that deal damage
That red enchantment is crazy especially since it includes playing lands. If you pair this with omniscience just fill your library with burn spells and ramp
omniscience only works with hand not exile
@@Theop123 ahh yeah ty
Virtue of Courage reminds me of Syr Carah, the Bold in the first Eldraine. Looks real sweet with her too.
That red enchantment will be INSANE in a prosper edh deck
Especially with Orcish Bowmasters as well. Rakdos wheel storm combo here we go.
Is bunnycorn the new tarmagoyf? It kinda reads like one.
Rankles Prank just seems like a Commander card more than anything
Feral Encounter once again confirming that green does everything.
I don't like when Wizards sets a precedent for a particular card/mechanic and then goes and changes it, in this instance its the Adventure mechanic in Throne of Eldraine it was sorcery/instant and a creature and now they're adding enchantments
I think rankle's prank is good in reanimator styke decks because it puts 4 cards in your graveyard
Can I just say the bunny is a better construct. This sounds fun in affinity
Song of totentanz in mono red?
Regal Bunnicorn in equipment?
23:26 me and my brother don't call those "other players"
we call them "bots"
song of totentanz looks amazing with magus the red
richard is going to love woodland acolyte
Was thinking of making a cadria deck now I’m so excited too
I'm not saying Rankle's Prank will see a lot of play or anything, but it's MUCH better than Fraying Omnipotence. It's cheaper, you get to choose (you don't have to lose life for instance) and it can even be more impactful, for example if the opponent has exactly two cards in hand or exactly two creatures in play.
Funny thing about gumdrop poisoner if if you gained 2+ life, and there are no other creatures, she kills herself.
Pay respects to the Regal Tarmo-corn
song card seems fun in a white hand commander deck
Replacing the Solphims in your burn deck with Virtue of Courage seems strong.
"you are drawing card on your upkeep" hurts
I think Totentanz things he's going to be the new R/B Rat deck commander. Which is why a lot of the rat-token themed cards are in red in this set.
How is nobody talking about Virtue of Courage and Imodane, The Pyrohammer in commander? Virtue of Courage with a couple of enablers like Birgi and Urabrask just turns Imodane into a storm deck.
Virtue of courage just turns all your burn spells into nahiris warcrafting
“Knee-heb, the Eternal”?? 😂😂
I am shocked people are saying Rankle's prank is ok. You get to choose all the modes that are relevant. Blow up their board, rip apart their hand, speed up the clock (obviously, playing around the symmetrical side)? all for four mana, which mono black already wants to get to to play sheoldred. is modern magic really that powerful that this looks underwhelming?

rankles prank, new tech for mono black burn
Virtue of courage is a great include for Syr Carah! The uncommon for the last eldraine
This card wouldn't work in the current mono red since its mainly creature based imo. Though a rakdos burn would be a different story.
I'm a little disappointed in the Rat support. I was hoping for some new things to add to my Rat deck or even a cool Rakdos commander but there's really only 2 kinda just ok cards.
All hail the new mechanic assimilated by Green: impulse draw! Resistance is futile.
War drum and rackdos commander with the new red enchantment
rankles prank is just a barter in blood. with the option of the other two abilities in my eyes
T1 memnite - bauble - topter - urza saga to play drum - use drum add W play sigarda - T2 1W Barnicorn - kite shield as an istant
RESULT 8/11 on T2
The way says neheb hurts my soul
In case someone is curious 'Totentanz' is German and essentially means dance of the dead. And yes, Seth's pronounciation got worse with every attempt 😂.
Just play virtue of courage in a heartless hidetsugu deck

My 2-cents to the cards in a sealed/draft perspective since Seth focus mostly on Commander:
Virtue of Courage:

Something we haven't really seen yet.
A effect more red based (exile and play this turn) in green. But also added with a fight that triggers akwardly during the combat step, leaving your opponent some more time to handle the biggest or fightning creature before that.
In the end it is green removal with a big upside of posibily replacing itself which green normally doesn't get.
