this song is about loss of husband/wife, and the one who's left in the world talks about old memories and future wishes (until they meet again at the end of this life)

Tm m No, it's not screaming. Screaming is all throat. The art of masterful singing is not using the throat hardly at all. It's what opera singers aim towards. Using their diaphragm instead of their throat because throat singing is extremely unhealthy and tiring after long periods of time.

It's not east asian voice that has those techniques but Sohyang who has it. Many asian singers don't have that clarity that Sohyang has and criticism Christina Arguella for having lack of support is her problem not because she is an western singer. Sohyang is known for her pure resonant voice so it's her gift not has to do with race.

agree.. Perhapse he needs to to listen more instead of talking so much during performances. It is surprising that he doesnt feel the pain and the angst during the last part of the song, being a voice coach and all.

Must say you have your own style in doing reactions. Sorry to hear that two of your other reactions on Sohyang got blocked. Perhaps you will have the energy to edit the video so that they can be shared, even if they don't come out in their entirety, as preferred. This "Where Are You" is all about the build-up, both in the voice and the emotion the lyrics describes. I thought it was rather apt to hear your comments on creating tension. It is also interesting to hear your note on key change. It is a frequent feature of Sohyang's performances, as she navigates the scale for the expression she looks for. You also talked about the extra gear on top. I would speculate that there are many western singers who also have the range to go high, but perhaps less so for those in the pop world. Your comments seem to be technical by nature, without much reference to the emotional delivery. Not sure if it is by design, or just your preference. Either way, thanks for the analysis. This is the first time that I hear about a vocal coach telling to the people how have to feel while listen music (tears... What????). I mean... INCREDIBLE... Singers have to feel what they sing, always. So the crowd can be happy, unhappy, be glad, sad, ... with what they are listening to. Perhaps people who sing in a karaoke haven't to do it. I am a professional musician in Spain. I have played and I have recorded, as musician, with a lot of artists. 85% playing rock (European and American musicians & singers). This kind of music isn't my prefer music lo hear, but this woman is an AMAZING SINGER. One of the best that I hear ever. About your opinion is one more of thousand... Somethings we are agree, others no... And yes... I am following in TH-cam So Hyang two weeks ago As a lot of sinbgers that I like listen them. But soHyang has something special... And really any "good" Vocal Coach know this... Peace!!

The TH-cam issues are because Korean TV producers are nazis when it comes to copyright. They are much stricter that what we are used to. TH-cam is regularely vacuumed clean of Sohyang performances and other artist performances from these korean TV shows. (For this reason, you'll find a lot more Sohyang performances on Vimeo than on TH-cam, interestingly enough! ) Best strategy to avoid it, is propably stop the video, do some talking, play some more... Or just cut/edit parts of your video before you publish. Thats my guess.

I think the "A" forced smile face is natural to the Korean sound of some vowels and consonants.
Literally, if you didn’t purposefully disengage yourself from the performance by focussing on everything other than what she’s saying and her emotion e.g. commenting and laughing at the subtitle colour change (it wasn’t even funny), you’d recognise why people were emotional.
Looks like you use jokes as a defence mechanism to deflect getting vulnerable, you’re afraid of emotion and feel people who are emotional should ‘pack it in’.
Btw nothing you’ve said in this video is exactly specialist knowledge that ‘I can’t get anywhere else’, what did you say in this video “she amped up the difficulty ahah” “different vowels produce different sound!”. Great. Thanks.

listing to this song reminded me of EXO - i really didn't know cover (if you haven't heard it I think it may be worth your time) but you were talking of head space near the end and how its much clear than western artist like Christina, I'm not really sure what's the difference between chest and head voice, is it just singing higher?

These east Asian singers also... Practice Practice Practice, and they get proper training. One of Sohyangs first vocal coaches was the same man who trained the voice of Michael Jackson. She speaks of him all the time. Now..... telling mso0meopne to rein in the tears, is just plain mean. Everyone has a different emotional level, and most SoHyang fans can't help but get emotional every time we hear her so9ng a song for the first time. So if hearing her sing that well, and with that much emotion did NOTHING for you, then I feel sorry for you sir. You will see in most all of her video's, them showing people in the crowd crying. I do however, wish you luck with your emotions in the future, as you seem to have none at the moment. No heart felt anything. Just NUMB.

dracaryse yes i agree 100% with you, but she is better at her low notes now, then she was in that performace and she is definitly improving every year so i like her more and more as the time goes. btw that part truly was the best and i was mind blown when i listened it for the first time. If you want to commentate on something and talk about things like Christina Aguilera then judt stop the video. You just keep talking over the performance and not paying attention to the emotions she's displaying and then have the audacity to say it's "too far" to cry listening and wathing to her perform like that? The whole purpose of music is to make us feel something and to express feelings. The technical side comes alongside with it. You can't just completely disregard one of the two. Disrespectful and extremely unprofessional.
