Perpetual ray: noted by the steaming leg and the lesser noticed stun immunity temporarily removed, stun it immediately to severally reduce the damage it deals to random targets
lightblade0923 Wait, seriously? Does it reduce the # of AoE puddles or just remove their occurrence completely?
Danial Awan You can see Perpetual Ray @ 0:32 , it hit 3 members for half their health. Stunning the steaming leg will bring each hit down to ~2k instead.

Yo! Something you didn't mention in the video that stops a lot of outgoing damage is stunning the leg when it steams! One leg will randomly start steaming and if you stun that it turns that blue laser from a heavy 5k+ hit to a much weaker hit.
Pretty late, but OMG that's great to know. As a PLD main, I spam stuns a little too often and this is just another excuse to justify that. xD

The tanks (mostly Paladin and Warrior) can survive the 3 tethers with appropriate cooldowns, but it's not recommended, especially if you're the main tank, to eat those damage as the auto hits may kill you.
As for the dolls, if they remain alive for too long, they will explode, dealing raid wide damage. And the enrage timer is 10 minutes.

It is indeed Discoid, like the FFXI chariot ability in salvage. It totally should have had the same effect too, would have made for a more interesting last phase.

Why does nobody mention stunning the leg with steam?

VentusxBBSxSpero Becaue good groups don't notice that mechanic since their healers can easily heal trough that blast even if it does it's full dmg.
Insentia Elsword Good groups will stun that, though, because eating an orb and being one of the unlucky people targetted with the laser blast is a ~10k total damage spike if it wasn't stunned that could very suddenly kill someone who otherwise was safe.

+Insentia Elsword "Cool" groups let the healers do all the hard work. Good groups know, what the term "mitigation" means. Don't get those two confused :)

Wunlee Buxton Doesn't help that AST has some of the worst mp sustain :(. While SCH have aetherflow and whm got assize for that 10% mp, AST is stuck with a single mp regen skill. This is why I always use Ewer on myself or the other healer and if I don't need it I just RR it. I noticed their AST was throwing his/her ewer on the SMN but I don't think they really need it O.o
gbtygfvyg AST shouldn't really have any issues in this fight I feel. Especially if you have a WHM to pair up with it's really quite easy. The biggest issue is knowing the fight, due to it's scripted nature, and only healing when neccesary. Even when overhealing ~30% you won't run out of MP as long as no one dies, it's really quite forgiving in that sense! c:
gbtygfvyg If you're having trouble with MP on an AST then you arent playing AST right.
_X_BlueShadow_X_ I don't have mp problems with AST but AST does have mp problems in general. You can watch any fight and a SCH/WHM will be sitting at more than 10k during most Alex fights and an AST will be dwindling below 5k after around 3min.

Dark Knight tanks are SOO powerful for Discord/Perpetual Ray. Dark Arts Dark Mind is up for literally every rotation, and you can rotate between using Shadow Skin, Shadow Wall, and convalescence to go with it. On average I dont usually take more than 2500 damage per hit of Perpetual Ray.

After Bismarck ex and Ravana ex this is very relaxing for a dps xD
Ashyey is that why the dps i get always cause wipes on the adds?
*shrug* true some dps are pretty slow or they don't pay attention. Idk why it is so hard for 4 dps to kill 3 adds even if one get sucked in a room it isn't that difficult. But for me personally it's much less stressful than Bismarck or Ravana.
So i was having really huge problems in this fight lastnight. I did have a brand new healer with me, as I am heals too. I am a 186 sch. But through out The fight all the aoes were being used, I used Indominatability, lustrate and emergency tactics succor to heal party. I am wondering how far does the debuff spread, and is it primarily on healers. Also it's well noted that the new healer was dying by the lasers and no one picked it up from her, one of the party members accused me of just spamming Physick and called me a useless piece of shit, when clearly I used up all my aether stacks to do lust and indominatability because so much unnecessary damage was being dealt.
it's possible one of the casters was backing you up and they saw the Physics get spammed

I have done this fight several times already as a Dragoon and one instance I got killed twice on the final phase by something. I couldn't tell what it was but it was not he ground AoE attack. Could I have possibly pulled aggro from The Manipulator and got hit by its missile?
I don't know if this will serve as a clue but one of the tank actually called me "dumb idiot" for dying. So, I'm guessing it was something that he could see clearly coming to me.
How is enmity handled during this fight? For example, is the MT the tank which has the largest enmity on the Manipulator or it is the tank with the largest enmity on the leg?
The reason why I ask is that when I OT and the MT dies, it seems I'm not always the next in line for hate due to how much time is spent getting thrown into quarantine and once the MT is dead it seems the Manipulator is not even targetable (when working on the legs) to pickup that hate.

Huh, compared with stuff like Twintania, Nael and Bahamut this seems quite easy, even for duty finder groups.
there's a reason. this is NORMAL mode. normal mode was created so casual players can experience the story, without having to get a static and whatnot. savage alexander doesn't seem that easy
I found the only thing really killing me was randomly getting hit for 11k by exhaust. I don't think that was covered, I assume its what gets you when you hit 4 stacks from the adds?
Tyra Banks Yes. You explode for lethal damage when you hit 4 stacks.
Tyra Banks also, pretty sure it flat out explodes for your current max hp pool, and unaffected by shields and damage reduction. Its just a flat out kill.
This fight is horrible on df, some parties I was with couldn't even get passed the first leg and some don't even bother taking care of orbs or the Magitek Bit tethers T.T

This fight seems almost impossible in DF. As a Dps at one point I was taking a tether, tanking an add away from the others and managing to stun the leg while other dps were failing... One question though, can you only stun the steamed up leg? Or can any leg be stunned to negate damage?
Only the steaming leg. This should be dealt with by OT if present or MT if OT is quarantined, imho. I guess melee or MCH could do it too. Whatever works for you.
I saw a post on reddit that showed it's actually possible to get both of the legs down at the same time, has your group tried that yet? If so, would the phase that comes during the second leg get skipped?
there was a group who did it with a mage's lb and showed it on Reddit. the boss will just pick one leg at random and heal it to 100%. not worth it :3

Has anyone figured out the blue cogwheel dmg up buff that the boss can gain? I've seen most of my clears of the fight with no stacks through the whole fight, and most of the wipes have at least 1+ stacks going to a max of 3 before discoid/missiles kill me as the MT. I'm very interested, and want to know.
Edwin Chan I wonder if its like the stacks on kaliya in turn 11, where when a person dies she gets a lightning stack (albeit in the last phase only). I haven't really had a chance to run/beat it with a decent group yet to try and divine all the mechanics just yet, so can't confirm.

Aang Yeah I'm going to have to eat crow on that. I wish I could say I'm surprised, but honestly I'm not. It's just really depressing that devs and publishers immediately run to the f2p shitshow the moment the profits start stagnating.
I suppose it was mostly wishful thinking on my part. It's really, really unfortunate the industry is headed toward nothing but fleece-to-play shitware as far as the eye can see. :(

My healer is 180. It took me like 8 tries to finally finish it, but I done it the same day I started it. It's hard, super hard with the healer cause everyone and everything is taking damage and it's hard keeping up, but it gets easier the more you do it.
Man these mechanics are getting more and more complicated @_@
