    Another word of warning about rushing through or "skipping" A Realm Reborn, from someone who actually quite enjoyed my time with it years back, A Realm Reborn sets up a LOT and I really mean it. Yes, it's convoluted - it's a political intrigue A plot with a war story B plot, it's going to get convoluted but it sets up _so much_ that we don't see the payoff until Heavensward, Stormblood, Shadowbringers, and even Endwalker.
    And hey if you're anything like me and prefer grounded fantasy politics and war stories (whilst still having magic, dragons, and whatnot) you might come to find the opposite of what people say and find yourself enjoying the ARR to Stormblood expansions more than the last two (which are by no means bad either, Endwalker is a little _eh_ in my opinion but that's only because it has contrast itself to other XIV expansions).
    The only thing is that A Realm Reborn _DEMANDS_ your attention, if you aren't paying attention for even what initially seems like the most mundane of quests you're gonna set yourself up to miss a plot beat later on in the story.

      "if you aren't paying attention for even what initially seems like the most mundane of quests you're gonna set yourself up to miss a plot beat later on in the story."
      "it sets up so much that we don't see the payoff until Heavensward, Stormblood, Shadowbringers, and even Endwalker."
      And... that's entirely ARR's fault. Not the player's. If people aren't able to find crucial aspects of your story engaging, how is THAT on them and not the story? Should people seriously have to trudge through thousands of lines of bland, poorly presented quests that *might* have a nugget of story relevance in them somewhere just in case they wind up missing and being completely thrown out of the loop later on? How is it their fault if they'd prefer to actually do something instead of comb through countless lines of dialogue they have no interest in just in case something winds up mattering?

    A bit of intermediate to advanced advice if you are using a controller. For those who've bever used controller, when doing so, you have multiple hotbars that you need to swap through. There is an option to pull up secondy hotbars without swapping from your main one. Usually accessed by double tapping and holding the trigger buttons. Personally for me, i dont use this option as i got used to just swapping through my hotbars normally instead. So what i like to do is to set up a constant hotbar with important information. Such as a basic atrack to show GCD but mainly to show when a cool down is ready. Its mostly important for tanks and healers who have more of their utility on their second hotbar. Of course it does help DPS as well. You wont be able to use this hotbar with the controller so you will still need to swap to use those actions.

    As someone who was told to focus on the MSQ, and a stereotype of not reading, my advice is to please please PLEASE take your time, don’t let yourself get dragged along by friends or others, and give yourself time to understand what you learned. I’m having to redo those steps bc I didn’t read and was tunnel visioned, and didn’t learn stuff.
    Good news is that I get to learn stuff though :)

    One thing I noticed recently that I thought of when you mentioned job stones.
    Iirc, a recent patch had the qol change that allows you to retain your hotbar from your class to your job when equipping the job stone. What I have learned is that if you choose to go back to the comfortable layout you already had for the class hotbar, you HAVE to manually put your level 30 skill on there. It will only automatically be added to the preset job hotbar and will be removed when you change it over. This was my experience at least while leveling alts.

    To be fair about healing mistakes, cure 1 procs a free cure 2, with cure 2 costing a tenth of your MP bar otherwise, while cure 1 is around 300 MP if I remember correctly. The initial impulse is going to be to rely on cure 1 till freecure procs.
    Its a mistake thats likely going to keep happening till the game itself tells new players "Actually, lucid dream is part of your rotation and you're actually more of a green DPS instead of a healer" and till they rework healing to lean into that, like reducing the cost of Cure 2 and having it replace Cure 1 outright.

    Extreme Trials aren’t that bad, people should unlock them. you unlock them at level 50, and you and your whole party are lvl synced to lvl 50, the recommended level, just make sure and you read up on the mechanics beforehand. Plus doing most of the Extreme versions give you mounts as a reward. I do agree savage and ultimate difficulties are next level type of stuff gotta make sure you really know how to play if you wanna do those.

    • @TheNastyNamazu
      @TheNastyNamazu  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      The problem is more so that unlike future extremes you don't just unlock them instead you get a quest that lingers telling you to do them which can make new people think they have to do them when they don't. And while I do agree that the early extremes aren't that bad they're still going to be a massive step in difficulty for most new players and many of them aren't going to be prepared or even want to deal with that level of difficulty.
      Which as a side note is why I love the introduction of Unreals as it gives people a chance to try the old fights they didn't do when they were still getting through and learning the game

    • @TheLastSane1

      Calling them Extreme is gonna scare players off who dont know about Savage and Ultimate. Honestly "Advanced" would have been a better name, or switch out the "Hard" for Advanced and used Hard for what is Extreme. The word Extreme is gonna sound daunting.

    • @Aurelyn
      @Aurelyn 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      If you do the ARR extremes in duty finder you will probably clear them in 1 or 2 lockouts sure. But the only reason this happens is because you are skipping or invalidating most of the mechanics due to being massively overgeared, and even if 4 people die the remaining 4 who've probably cleared a few times will just clear the rest of the boss for you. Meaning at the end when you've gotten the kill you don't actually learn how the boss works anyway. The same might happen for Ravana extreme once you got enough echo stacks to skip some mechanics or if you got some really good DPS in the duty finder.
      But this is not the same as learning the fights and doing the mechanics. All the mechanics are basically ignored because you are so overgeared. You might as well wait until you're level 80 or 90 on a job and then you can queue for them solo and kill them that way. Instead of wasting multiple lockouts trying to get 8 people to zombie through.
      You will understand this when you try to do level 80 or 90 extremes with proper gear level. The 50 and 60 ones used to require the same amount of effort back in the day, now they are just a trap to get people to waste time doing them at the synced level, because you don't actually learn anything by doing them.

    • @chrism4403
      @chrism4403 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@AurelynWhat are you talking about you don't learn anything from the older extremes, being synced means you have to know all of the mechanics to even have a chance at winning. I think you're a little bit confused here.

    God I feel that with Tanks and CDs. DPS, too, honestly. No one likes to use CDs on trash and it makes dungeons both take forever but also makes them way harder than it needs to be.
    Re: Cure 1 and Cure 2--while they're both kind of fringe after HW, I've found in ARR that if for some reason the tank is taking so much damage that Regen, Medica II and even Cure 2 isn't cutting it (due to that aforementioned phobia of CDs), I've found that alternating 2 and 1 can be beneficial just because Cure I is slightly faster. Granted, I dislike both cures so I do this to kind of make a Cure 1.5, but I've found it to be really useful in ARR hard dungeons if you have to spam cure because your tank just hates living. I've found two 1.8s casts when the tank is struggling is just too slow.

      A good tip for non-beginners concerned about dungeons taking longer + becoming too difficult for meta/optimization/efficiency/speedrun/parse players to handle - you have a plethora of options for premaking. Party Finder, Linkshells, your FC chat, Discord, various social media... hell, you can even /shout in a major city. By doing a *premade* (instead of random matchmaking) you can breathe easy knowing you're gonna slam out wall-to-walls with zero issues. And for casuals + beginners, they get to queue into content where they'll be actually taught things at their individual pace rather than rushed through so fast that they later end up *still* holding onto bad habits as late as endgame Endwalker. It also saves meta/optimization/efficiency/speedrun/parse players *so much* time, as it can get lengthy color-coding censor bars over random people's names + writing a novel about it for r/talefromdf

    ARR isn't worse than the base game of most other MMOs, imo. That doesn't mean it's good, but it means that anyone familiar with MMOs should be able to push through it and still have an alright time. Especially if you can find someone that loves MMOs to get through it with you.

    Other mistake to avoid: don’t lose temper with players. The player base is mostly considerate and understanding, and if you would prefer a different strat, or help, or want someone to do their job in a better way, discussing calmy with them will be the best route/ don’t be fooled however, the player base of 14 were brought up in The kholusia salt mines, wich is to say, in an argument against them, you cannot win.

    I loathe people who would say ARR sucked. The story is fantastic with some of the first tastes of jaw dropping events. The only thing people can rightly say about ARR is that it felt like it was the least amount of voice acted cutscenes and/or the voice acting in them were pretty bad. People do get tired of reading, I get that, even though I read every quest myself and it helps me enjoy traveling around to deliver messages and return quests, or kill quests, more.

    • @TheNastyNamazu
      @TheNastyNamazu  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      I think most the problems people have with the arr story more so has to do with the pacing than the story itself. Like the amount of time between ifrit and titan used to take forever, and some of the old quest were just to much.
      My personal favorite will always be. Get bucket, put bucket in water, fill bucket, pick up bucket, take bucket to bartender, and finally pure water on rude dude.
      But what I think a lot of veteran player miss especially now with the changes made in Endwalker is that ARR isn't the same as they knew it. Going through the game now with an alt character it's wild how much is actually different. Everything just seems so much faster now and better paced.

    • @DivinionFaith
      @DivinionFaith 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@TheNastyNamazu I have to chuckle with the bucket quest. I actually went back and started a new character a couple of months ago and still went to the river first. I was a little confused lol.
      You are right, it's very different. Probably the most notables were the 8 player Cape Westwind being a single player trial and the 8 player CM/Praetorium is now 4 player CM/Prae followed by Single player trial.
      I get people's complaints, but they still stem from the rushing aspect of things and ignoring that your character is still developing into the world renown hero. So the slower pacing to lead up to a major fight instead of just dashing right in there as an experienced Eikon Killer. Gamer logic, I get it, it's slower. Lore logic, it makes so much sense.

    I skipped through pretty much all of ARR and HW on my first playthrough and replayed the whole thing before DT came out.
    As a result of this, my opinion of ARR is probably different from that of someone who experiences it with no prior knowledge. The Ascians and Garlemald, being saturday morning cartoon villains to the uninitiated, already had depth in my mind. But even without that stuff considered, I LOVED my time with ARR on my replay.
    I think the absolute worst way to handle ARR is telling new players it's awful before they even start. If you're bringing a player into the game and they ask you if it get's better, that's when you tell them that ARR is the low point of the story. But a lot of players actually enjoy it on their first playthrough. Give people a chance to enjoy it.

    • @rukiaaeron5999
      @rukiaaeron5999 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The datacenters where Duty Finder is commonly used for Extremes also expect that you’ve already done your learning the fights via Party Finder first. Just because you *can* queue for EXs via DF without knowing the fights, does not mean you *should*.
      And nobody’s gatekeeping in a negative sense here. If a Free Trial player wants to learn an EX fight sync’d, they can ask a non-Free Trial player to host the PF for them. Granted, the paid player would also need to be interested in doing the content in that way, but it’s otherwise no different from FT players asking others to group them with their friends.

      @@lucaaryas8504my dude, if you're on the free trial and intend to put forth the effort to learn and clear an Extreme Trial sync'd, it's no insurmountable task to, say, ask someone in the Novice Network to host a Party Finder to learn it in an environment where folks won't just up and leave. You don't have to have deep personal contacts with the best players in the game, you just gotta do the bare minimum of *asking someone* and *working together* to tackle the challenge. You're projecting so much toxicity where there was none in this conversation. This is a cooperative game.

    • @TheNastyNamazu
      @TheNastyNamazu  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      1.) It's mostly only JP that use the duty finder for high-end content
      2.) You've kinda missed the point. The fact is as a new player you're given a quest that tells you to complete x extreme because ARR doesn't just unlock them like future extreme it has that quest telling you to do them which means new players may believe they have/need to do it, but for the average new player those fights are likely going to be a little much.
      It's not gatekeeping to inform new players that don't know the differences between the content types. That extreme and so on are vastly different compared to what there used to. Nor, is it gatekeeping to tell them that people don't generally queue for these fights in most data centers which is why they can expect those massive queue times.

    • @TheNastyNamazu
      @TheNastyNamazu  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@lucaaryas8504 To this point you don't need to know a paid player you just have to do things the old fashioned way of going to a major city(likely limsa) and ask people to to help. Hell people will do this just to help fill a party finder, and often people are more that happy to help.
      Also as someone that knows a good few mentor that have or close to having the mount the distain doesn't come from getting extremes it comes from getting specific extremes.
      Teaching new players to do something like shiva, ultima, or ifrit isn't that bad and its realistic that you could get a new player a clear there first time. However, then you get fights like Ramuh where you'll have to sit there for an hour as you die to the same mistakes over and over again.
