- India Cuts EV Import Taxes: Will Elon Musk's Tesla cash in? | Vantage with Palki Sharma
In a strategic move to attract significant investment in the electric vehicle (EV) sector, India announced on Friday a reduction in import taxes for electric vehicles. The concession is contingent on companies committing to a minimum of $500 million in local investment and manufacturing within three years. This decision marks a pivotal moment for Tesla, which has been eyeing the Indian market for a while. Elon Musk, Tesla's CEO, has previously highlighted India's import taxes, as a major barrier to Tesla's entry into the Indian market.
Despite Elon Musk's attempts to penetrate the Indian market, New Delhi's stance remained firm on requiring local manufacturing commitments. India's EV market, though currently modest, is on an upward trajectory, with domestic giant Tata Motors leading sales. Electric models accounted for approximately 2% of India's total car sales in 2023, with ambitions to reach 30% by 2030. Palki Sharma tells you more.

india needs fast charging infrastructure like 100, 150, 250kw and hyper charging 350kw.
unless indian companies develop fast charging tech domestic or partnered with companies already developed those, EV 4wheeler sales will always be below 5%.
Charging network comes after substantial sales, not before.
Yes Demand necessitate supply
utter nonsense, most of the travel of every user is below 100km
where you get below 5%. if companies launch good ev people buy .take example of tata in last 1 year they have solld 5 lakh personal cars out of which 75000 were ev's . that comes to about 15%.
Tata is selling ev vehicles that support max 30kw fast charging. No wonder people dont like EVs in india. India lagging behind the most in ev penetration at just 2% for 4 wheelers

I would think Telsa EVs would be very beneficial to both India and Elon Musk. Having financial ties with Elon could help improve both India's space program, and missile defense programs immensely. He could be a great allie for India, specifically in regards to India's struggles with the CCP🇮🇳🇺🇲
India doesn't need the west to stand up to CCP and both CCP and the west know it very well.
Moreover Elon is of no use for missile defense. Secondly India itself has a very successful space agency.
We would rather support our new homegrown space startups rather than going to spaceX as it may possibly kill our domestic ecosystem.
Third, EV industry is seeing many rising players but almost all of them have similar technologies more or less. We literally restricted BYD from investing $ 3 billion in India due to border tensions. So even here Elon doesn't bring something out of the box.
Fourth, Elon himself won't be able to compete in the price sensitive market of India.
So even if he comes here, it would be very interesting to see how he plays the ♟️ here.

A factory setup in India will be the worst decision Tesla ever made. India is a budget friendly country, which is why most of the car owners of india drive cheap cars like maruti, Tata, and Mahendra. And still they complain the price should be much lower. 😂 TATA motor made a car called Nano for those who couldn't afford a car, but the customer complained the car is so small we can't take it for long highway trips, so the stopped making that model and also jad to shutdown the factory. Let's talk about Mobile phones companies they had to make a budget phone just for india so they can use it, but still, many have complains. 😅 Then what about the elite? Well, they will use the Tesla model, but they soon gonna have options like European Electric cars, then Tesla won't make a good profit. What about asian market will they buy made in india ? The answer is No.
But India is trying to live the virtual-reality dream and blindly follow the U.S. on EVERYTHING. If our -burgers- sandwiches costs in upwards of $18, then the Indians think they should pay the same, this goes for other restaurants where average bills here in CA can run upwards of $60-$80 if not more for two just in a sit-down meal, and ice cream costs $8-$10, and the Indians in India think this should be the de-facto. Something is SERIOUSLY wrong with the mentality of Indians and it is an epic blunder!

There are several catalysts including battery storage which will exceed the value of the auto side of the business. They are debt free and have a solid balance sheet. I could go on and on but suffice it to say Tesla.is not in any trouble and while they would benefit from the India market it is in no way in need of a “lifeline” from India to the point where it’s laughable for that to have even been said. Basic research would show these facts to be accurate. As a media outlet your viewers deserve real facts not unsupported conjecture.

It should have been 2 billions intead of 0.5, which seems miniscule
Yes but Elon is currently low on liquidity to invest more in India it seems and also he has lost the $55 billion salary in US court as the Tesla stocks are falling.
EVs are a scam by Chinese govt, people in US are ditching EVs, EV sales have plummetted, cars lying unsold in dealer showrooms, one year EVs resale value have gone down by 60%, battery energy density is 220-500wh/kg hydrogen energy density is 39000wh/kg, there is no way you can match that in 1000yrs, toyota mirai runs 800km with just 6kg of hydrogen a world record no EV can beat that, hydrogen is the future govt should promote hydrogen cars
So all we see in TH-cam that india is Manufacturing hub Superpower are propaganda by Proud Hindu 😅😅
@@deadshot6135 elon is not going to invest in india it is tesla . and tesla just saves 55 billion usd that they no longer have to pay.
time has changed for Tesla or EV car manufacturers as a whole....demand is continously falling in US & China so there is no need for this fav policy , for new market they will come to India
It depends on gas/petrol prices. If those go up, Tesla starts selling like hotcakes. Some people are preferring hybrid for the time being, but Tesla is being heavily adopted in the US cities. Not much in the rural areas, but that can change.
Tesla will be best selling in india if they cut taxes india needs more free market
Vinfast & Tesla in the same boat! low bar for reporting here...
