Anyone who has spent any time in Asia - especially in the past few decades - knows that a town with an Irish bar is a sign of development. There's a town in Malaysia, Kota Bharu, which had always been a 'dry town' (religious reasons of course). Then, one day, a bar opened, a building with a shamrock sign, Golden City. An Irish bar, of course (run by Chinese). Now, if a place serves Guinness when no one else in town does, what do I care who pours it? BTW, the place I live now, a small city in south Thailand, has a proper Irish pub run by a Dubliner.
Nice. I think my local might have been the Dubliner back in the day. It's Oshea's today. I know I was there in 2010? My memory isn't that great. Either that or the Londener. Either way, it's a great bar today. I just got home from hanging out with friends. Nice place to hang out.
When we stayed in Bangkok we went there at least twice a week. Great food (western and Thai), great choices for beer, & good prices... Asahi my fav too
Those sort of pubs are a blessing in disguise for the food i can only eat so much Thai food before i get the runs so a good meal of English food always helps
@@davidbuckley9307 I agree. I love Thai food. But, even my Thai girlfriend likes to get sushi or Mexican food once in a while. Thai food everyday would be boring.
Hello Joe, Hope you are doing well, I just wanted to commend you for your work ethic, in pumping out at least one video a day for the last 2 years it seems like, I know I can count on you to have a video out every time I go to my TH-cam list, you are inspiration for my small channel, who are some of your favorite bloggers Thailand or other areas? Thanks Again Rodeo Rick 👍
Hey thank you Rico. I'm just having a little fun making videos. I'm sure I'll slow down at some point. It can be a bit much at times. Best of luck with your channel. I'll check it out. I kind of float around on who I watch. I like Tim Newton (TNT) for my Thai info. I'll watch CB Media now and then. Paddy Doyle is fun. I like the guys that restore Harley's too. For a little help with TH-cam issues, I like Nick Nimmin. He's in Chaing Mae, but it's all YT info. Best of luck with the new channel. I'll go check it out. Joe
Hey Joe . On your recommendation I went to Stella’s Bar on Saturday night after visiting Cheap Charlie’s in Soi 50 . Both are great bars , very community minded. I met Stella and her crew as well as the many friendly patrons there. Hope to meet you sometime. Thanks again mate , cheers , David
They're talking rubbish, "english" etc bars in Bangkok are far far better than any you'd find in England!! lol i loved your mention of the dreary weather in London. Great video 😂
Hey Andy. I hear ya man. I know you love London and Bangkok. So, you'll be my Bangkok expert. I've been to London a dozen times. The coldest winter I ever spent was a summer in London. Ha ha. I'm sure guys from the UK love the local. Still, nothing wrong with a nice pub in paradise. Even if it's not 100% authentic.
220 bhat for a pint of Guinness that’s cheaper than temple bar it’s 9€ in my city Liverpool it’s £6 that’s less than £5 a pint lol 😜 I’ll have to tell my mates we will be on the Guinness soon
It’s an extremely good price how do they ship it to Thai 🇹🇭 it’s so cheap surely it’s not being shipped from Dublin? May be they brew it in the Philippines like a lot of beers
@@redtarget4182 I haven't been a Guinness guy in a few decades. I heard it's brewed somewhere else. I remember hearing a pub that had the original brought in from Ireland. Of course it was expensive. It's the same with IPA's. My hometown Stone IPA is here at 320b a pint. The owner told me a small keg is $300 US. That's a crazy price, but it has to cross the ocean from San Diego.
Great price for a Guinness. Thus week i paid 400 baht at the M Pub in Sathorn. I love the Irish and English Bars around Bangkok. Of course they arent exactly the same but they do the job.
Just wondering if you could recommend a Soi with some street appeal, bars, cafes and not a lot of traffic. I don’t like walking upto sukhumvit and almost getting clipped by a passing cars every time. Any suggestions appreciated👍
Not really. I can give you a Soi that is mellow, but it won't have bars and cafes. There are 12 million people here. It's all pretty busy. Maybe a smaller town like Jomtien or Hua Hin would be more quiet.
Sure you can. You'll see people just having a coke or soda water. It's all about hanging out with buddies. Not getting drunk. Even us guys that drink will take a few weeks or month off. We'll still stop by the pub to eat or watch a game.
The bars serve all day. That rule is just at 7/11 or the grocery store. Smaller grandpa stores, they seem to have less clocks on the wall. There is word that rule might be going away. Who knows. There's always a rumor.
Yes, for a little extra you can get Atlantic Cod. I never had the fish at Old English, but of course it's the Friday special at my local O'Shea's. Great fish and chips.
Is Boon keeping me from seeing my friend Stella? No way. We just all went to BBQ. I've been trying to watch the crazy 5 day a week drinking. I'm still 3 days a week. Ha ha. See you at Stella's soon.
Sounds like some good prices especially for Bangkok but I don’t really care about soccer but unfortunately most of the bars are closed during NFL games and any rebroadcast I am not interested in.
@@EagerExpat I know but it seems the superbowl is the only game they show live in Thailand and I have no interest in watching a rebroadcast. I have actually watched games at 3 am on my ipad in my hotel room.
@@vgshwk Go to the Sportsman. First live game at 11pm. (or midnight, depending on the stupid time change in the US) If people are drinking they play the second game at 2am or 3 am. Watch Monday night football at O' Shea's having breakfast Tuesday. You can't get a seat at most pubs Sunday morning. UFC live from Saturday night. It's the same in Pattaya. You need to support the bar. If 3 people show up, I don't blame them for shutting down at 2am.
Hey thanks for watching. I answer about an hour of questions here each day. I'm probably going to just paste a link for a video i made. Check out the search bar at the top of my channel. Most things can be answered here. If not, shoot me a comment here.

The thing is a lot of Irish bars in Asia Jameson will be the only Irish whiskey they have but they will have 2 or 3 scotch’s
That looks like a fun place-drinks, food, pool and well decorated.
It's a fun pub. Check out the Old English at the top of Soi 55
Looks like a great little pub. Can’t wait to go back to BKK.
Yes sir. Get back here soon. BKK is a great city.
