    WordPress block themes offer users unparalleled control and customization options. While these themes provide an exciting range of features for creating visually stunning and highly functional websites, it's important to note that they may have a steeper learning curve compared to traditional themes.
    However, the learning curve is well worth the effort as block themes empower users to bring their creative visions to life with ease once they overcome this initial hurdle.
    Complete Control over Post and Page Layouts
    WordPress block themes provide users with unparalleled control over post and page layouts. Through the site editor, you can customize templates and add blocks to design your content exactly as you envision it.
    Built-in Block Styles for Easy Customization
    Block themes simplify customization by incorporating built-in block styles directly into the theme. With a single click, you can modify background images, truncate excerpts, and apply different styles to various blocks, all without the need for additional plugins or custom CSS.
    Boost Efficiency with Block Patterns
    Block patterns are pre-designed collections of blocks that speed up your workflow. These patterns, available in block themes like Ollie, utilize core Gutenberg blocks, allowing you to create stunning pages quickly and easily while maintaining the flexibility to customize them further.
    Page Templates for Streamlined Design
    Block themes now offer page templates, allowing you to switch layouts for individual pages. This feature empowers you to establish a unique visual identity for each page by removing unnecessary elements or modifying the design to create captivating hero sections or landing pages.
    The Style Book: Streamlined Block Styling
    Block themes introduce the Style Book, a real-time preview and styling feature. The Style Book enables you to fine-tune the appearance of blocks by modifying typography, adding borders to images, and previewing changes instantly.
    Effortless Landing Page Creation
    Creating landing pages becomes a breeze with block themes. By creating a custom template, you can remove headers, footers, and other unnecessary elements, focusing solely on your landing page content. This streamlined approach helps you create captivating, full-screen landing pages that entice visitors.
    Support for Custom Post Types
    Block themes seamlessly integrate with custom post types. The site editor allows you to design layouts specifically tailored to showcase your custom content, whether it's portfolios, projects, or collections of movies. This feature ensures your custom post types are presented with precision and style.
    Simplified Theme Architecture
    Block themes offer a simplified architecture compared to classic themes. They leverage the power of core WordPress features, making them lighter, easier to build, maintain, and update. This streamlined approach results in a more efficient and optimized user experience, often leading to faster website performance.
    Future-Proofing with CSS Grid
    WordPress block themes embrace the future of web design by incorporating CSS Grid. This advanced layout system provides developers with enhanced control over grid-based designs, resulting in stunning and responsive layouts. Block themes are well-equipped to adapt to evolving web design standards and ensure compatibility with future developments.

      So true. Came here to decide whether I should give Wordpress another try, I am now sure that I should. Even want to build my portfolio site using Blocks now, they seem to give me the freedom I want. Been hardcoding my sites due to templates being too restrictive for me.

Liked your passion mate but would love to learn how to make block themes myself as I don't want to be a mere consumer only. Thanks Jamie. As usual a great demo of all the features, pros and cons. I definitely think that the block editor is far better than the older editor for post content. I'm still not sold on FSE, specifically in the area of templating, though a lot of the other work in FSE looks really promising. I quite like the Kadence theme, especially in the way that the header and footer ( I know it's done via the customiser) but it seems not to have moved to the FSE option.
    As for the theme size that is quite a big difference. As a Divi user it will be interesting to see how they pair things down for version 5.
    By the way I see you almost everyday day now when I scroll the homepage of The Guardian.

    Good overview of the parts of Block themes. I would like to see someone convert a classic theme (such as GeneratePress) to a block theme but I will try to create my own block theme . I would like to see how CSSGrid will be implemented into 6.3. Nice surprise!!

    Thanks for sharing. Ollie is very good. The Page/Post select template is an absolute winner for me. I have so many clients who want to choose templates on a per-article basis (because different articles suit different layouts) and yet it is a feature we rarely see. I think Beaver Builder has something similar but all the other themes completely miss the point.

    • @Hanneslsm
      @Hanneslsm 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Interesting! I am currently building a theme as Ollie (shown in the video).
      Can you elaborate on when exactly your clients chose differente templates? What are the differences between the templates on a per-article basis?

    • @Perchpole
      @Perchpole 11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@Hanneslsm I'll give you a simple example from experience. Layouts are often determined by the availability of good photos. Sometimes there are landscape photos. Other times the photos are in portrait mode. Portrait photos do not make good headers! So, when the person crafting the article only has a single portrait featured image available, it would be nice to switch to a layout that places it (for example) to the side of the text - not across the top of the page. By being able to switch the template at the time you create the post, you give the author the flexibility to choose how their piece will be presented..

    Hi Jamie, are you sure for CSS Grid coming in WordPress 6.3? We don't see it in beta 4 of 6.3. Furthermore, in Gutenberg Changelog #84 (Gutenberg Times) , Isabelle Brison the woman behind CSS Grid for WordPress said " And what is marked experimental, and will not be shipped in 6.3, is the group grid variation. So the group block has a few different layout variations, and behind an experimental flag in the plugin, there is a grid variation for the group block. However, that hasn’t been marked stable yet because what we have currently, the grid layout is a very basic version. It’s a very basic type of layout.".
