    Thanks Jamie. As usual a great demo of all the features, pros and cons. I definitely think that the block editor is far better than the older editor for post content. I'm still not sold on FSE, specifically in the area of templating, though a lot of the other work in FSE looks really promising. I quite like the Kadence theme, especially in the way that the header and footer ( I know it's done via the customiser) but it seems not to have moved to the FSE option.
    As for the theme size that is quite a big difference. As a Divi user it will be interesting to see how they pair things down for version 5.
    By the way I see you almost everyday day now when I scroll the homepage of The Guardian.

    Can you easily create scroll effects with block editor ? I'm currently migrating my wix site to WordPress and im a bit intimidated. I haven't used it in 10 years and it's so different now. Hoping to just find themes to buy and use but I'm afraid it might not be compatible . Can you recommend some ? Im not allowed to user elementor either...

    Don’t I feel daft, I actually thought Divi was a block theme. I currently use Gutenberg for my posts and Divi for my site, but I am quite tempted to try out a block theme.

      The Ollie theme

  • @Perchpole
    @Perchpole ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks for sharing. Ollie is very good. The Page/Post select template is an absolute winner for me. I have so many clients who want to choose templates on a per-article basis (because different articles suit different layouts) and yet it is a feature we rarely see. I think Beaver Builder has something similar but all the other themes completely miss the point.

    • @Hanneslsm
      @Hanneslsm ปีที่แล้ว

      Interesting! I am currently building a theme as Ollie (shown in the video).
      Can you elaborate on when exactly your clients chose differente templates? What are the differences between the templates on a per-article basis?

    • @Perchpole
      @Perchpole ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Hanneslsm I'll give you a simple example from experience. Layouts are often determined by the availability of good photos. Sometimes there are landscape photos. Other times the photos are in portrait mode. Portrait photos do not make good headers! So, when the person crafting the article only has a single portrait featured image available, it would be nice to switch to a layout that places it (for example) to the side of the text - not across the top of the page. By being able to switch the template at the time you create the post, you give the author the flexibility to choose how their piece will be presented..

    Hi Jamie, are you sure for CSS Grid coming in WordPress 6.3? We don't see it in beta 4 of 6.3. Furthermore, in Gutenberg Changelog #84 (Gutenberg Times) , Isabelle Brison the woman behind CSS Grid for WordPress said " And what is marked experimental, and will not be shipped in 6.3, is the group grid variation. So the group block has a few different layout variations, and behind an experimental flag in the plugin, there is a grid variation for the group block. However, that hasn’t been marked stable yet because what we have currently, the grid layout is a very basic version. It’s a very basic type of layout.".

    In #5 where you created the page with no title, is there a way to have the navigation sitting over the image rather than above it so there isn't a solid, separate navigation and then the big hero image, but instead a transparent navigation sitting over the top of the image?
