I just don’t know what to expect from my therapist. This is my second therapist and she is not better than the previous one. The whole 40 min pass by me talking about my ex and she is not providing much insight, advice, suggestions or visualization. I had a mental breakdown at my doctors office a few weeks ago and the SW that was called over to help me, was much more helpful than my therapist. She talked to me about visualizations and how it was okay to feel how I feel and that now I am a tree blossoming with new branches. My therapist only listens to me and then is like. We’ll pick it up next week. And no follow up. Only questions like: “and why you feel this way. Or I wonder why you feel this way.” Man, I don’t know why I feel this way, if I knew I wouldn’t be investing time and money in therapy. Help me god!

I am looking for my first therapist ever and I need help, please tell me you found help I can relate so much to your story. Some nurses at the hospital were so supportive and reassuring and I’m worried I’ll get an ineffectual therapist

@@foxc8646 hi!! I am sorry. I can relate to how you are feeling. When we feel like we need to talk to a therapist is because our feelings and thoughts are all over the place. I found a new therapist and I have been talking to her since last September. I live in NYC and she is from IPTAR and covered by my health insurance. She has helped me put into words how I feel and to put the right words to my thoughts. She has helped me by validating my feelings, something that I really needed it. But, some sessions are a drag on, I don’t know what to talk about and there are some things that I don’t share with her, which I think it is okay. I think this is because I am feeling calmer and I have taken a lot of my power back and in more control of my feelings. I still struggled with therapy, but it is relieving to talk to someone who puts value in your feelings. Good luck to you. Please, don’t settled. If you don’t click with a therapist, please keep looking. Asserting yourself to meet your needs is part of the process and it shows the respect and love you have for yourself. This is important part of the process. 🤗🤗

I had a similar problem. I repeated my issues everytime I went to see her. We just went around and around like ground hog day. I felt a little like I was scammed. What a waste of time and money.

    Questions to ask:
    1. How often you would anticipate seeing me?
    2. What is a typical session like and how long are the sessions?
    3. How I prepare for my sessions?
    4. What your general philosophy and approach to helping ?
    5. What kind of homework or reading you give your clients?

I haven't had much success with therapists. I wonder if I might be doing something wrong. Therapy isn't cheap!

When the therapist falls asleep while you are talking, that is a sign that maybe you should find somebody else. I thought maybe I should become a hypnotist and make a bit of money off of the therapy industry. After she woke up I thanked her for her time and decided not to go back to her. What a waste of money.

Oh wow that is awful. Sorry you had to go through that. It juxtaposes the reason people go to therapy in the first place

What a breakdown. And also wild to think that this was just an overview! Lol
Is it common to have a “starter” therapist to talk generally and then move on to a more specialized one?

Not many therapist take my insurance. Closest one to me is a 3 hour drive. I tried to contact them using their email but they won't even respond. Most therapist are cash only and many of us can't afford that. Others are on-line only and we all know the internet is not secure. I will not do on-line for any reason. It's hard to come up with $200 for each session. Many of us who need therapy will have to suffer because we can't afford treatment.

Are you already monetized? I let your videos play in the background to get your viewing hours up, and usually get an ad at the start that I let play through.

What would EMDR fall under? I’m feeling like overwhelmed and that I have so many issues i need each type of them. Psycho, cog, behavioral, family etc. So is there like … idk what i mean but i had childhood abuse, led to substance abuse, led to adult abuse, and continuing addiction. Clean with babies now but afraid my medication is being abused again and all those old issues are standing in my way of being a happy functioning parent and member of society. Do i start with a family therapist due to the children being my top priority? Sorry, thank you if you see this.

Hello. Thank you for this video. It was really helpful. Also I think it's spot on. For me, the gender of the therapist really DOES matter. I go to a program and they gave me a male lead therapist. I told him I passed a test that was basically a big step towards improving my life and he didn't seem to care. I told a female therapist in the next group, and she smiled and congratulated me. It's nice to have that "pat on the back" for an accomplishment that only female therapists seem to do. And it feels weird talking to another male about love and relationships. It even feels weird being alone with another male talking about sex, but I know some female therapists might not feel comfortable with a male client talking about problems or improvements in their sex life, so I kind of understand that... and force myself through the sexual talks with the male therapist when I'm provided with them. But love and relationships, feels too weird to talk to talk 1 on 1 with another male.

Very informative and helpful if: 1. You can even find a therapist who is taking new patients, and 2. You can find a therapist who takes insurance - ANY kind of insurance.

We were told to Find a Therapist to help with my husbands anxiety and now he has dementia. I have no clue where to start. Finally just pick someone from a list. Horrible mistake. Turned me off so much we aren't any any hurry to even try again.

I’ve only had one good therapist all my life. She understood me and she was really kind. It didn’t scare her or phase her when I had meltdowns. Every other therapist I had was bad. I don’t want therapy because I don’t want to be judged. I’m better telling my problems to my family and I have coping skills that I don’t need a therapist.
