Major attraction like Bukit Bendera Hill Train has that different rate as well but those are regulated by our government. Only several places have different rate like that. But there's one catch, if u go to Kelantan, the east coast state of Malaysia, even like me, a citizen of Malaysia, can get screwed up by small stalls and shops there. Only if I am able to speak local dilect till they are unable to identify me as an outsider then they give u good prices like locals. Good state but screwed up on the inside that can't be seen unless ur going there
In the US, we have significantly different prices for local and for out of state college tuition. On some grounds, it make sense because locals pay taxes (property taxes, etc) which help fund these things whereas foreigners do not.
I asked a tour guide I hired for an average REAL cost for a traditional shirt in the streets. He said around 1000. I was like ok. Later I found out he was also giving me tourist price. I walked into a department fancy store, and saw nice formal button up shirts for 600-800. I knew at that moment I was going to overpay out in the streets. Upsetting but I accepted that fact. Never paid for what they asked, but definitely overpaid 30-40 percent above local price. I had mixed feelings, every time I purchased something or paid for a service. I was mad, disappointed, frustrated, yet ok because it was “cheap” in my home currency.
We think u r foreigner man I'm kannadiga from Bangalore Lot of time we don't know u r Indian too Yaa that's problem But it can be solved when more interaction happens.
Book everything online. Use ola or uber app, public bus, metro to travel. Use TripAdvisor app or website to plan the journey and know about places you visit.
Just get a tan, dye your hair to black and blend in with locals ao you don't get insta-targeted from hundred meters aways. Safe travel almost guaranteed to everycorner in city (except a few seriously shady places).
You've gotta keep some of your Kiwi perspective thou brother.. i know i did when travelling India, 50 rupees is 1 Australian dollar, so i never really felt bad for payin' an extra 50c-dollar for somethings, especially when you can prob see they're going home to feed a family of 6 with it! Most foreigners dont realize India runs on bargaining, so you either play the game or just accept it.. that said speaking Hindi definitely helps thou.
Yup, I know what you're saying Bro. I live here, so for me this is a daily thing. For tourists it's just 2 weeks. This pricing also applies to Indians who are from different states, so it helps them remember to bargain too.
Prashanth Kamath Depends on what the second price is. They do it in China, the motorcycle taxi guys usually charge about the same as a regular didi/Uber, and private drivers charge 2/3 more for foreigners. But they have to feed their families with that so I don’t mind. What I do mind is one private driver demanding three times the regular Uber/Didi rate and twice the metered street taxi rate for a ten minute trip.
I'm still using the bargaining technique called 'walk away' since from my young age😆. You said correctly 'as soon as you walk away the price starts dropping'😆😆
My basic rule in India was, that whatever price they say, 50% is the maximum I am willing to pay. 25% is a good deal, 10% is the minimum they are willing to go, but too much hassle.

*He lives in India most of the time ... My state haryana is like a second home to him*
@chrismacsims It is outright immoral to charge a higher price.
Exactly my thinking. Giving them a hard time for 50c? First and last video from your channel. Interesting tho, can't knock the hustle lol
I'm still using the bargaining technique called 'walk away' since from my young age😆. You said correctly 'as soon as you walk away the price starts dropping'😆😆
I am an Indian and still stucked, I had an experience in Chennai City and when I called Auto for a ticket of Rs 20 in Chennai Metro I got Rs 200
My basic rule in India was, that whatever price they say, 50% is the maximum I am willing to pay. 25% is a good deal, 10% is the minimum they are willing to go, but too much hassle.
