If I say a number which they are expecting, they show you that they have correctly predicted the number as they wrote it on the paper. They might ask you one more question, like, name a milk giving animal or a garden flower. This is a simple psychological trick where most people, Indian at least, will choose cow or rose for those questions. Then they show you that they predicted correctly, and on that paper itself, will be an amount written. Like 1100 or 3100 and they will ask you to pay them that much amount. If you give an answer which is different from what they've written, they will just shamelessly ask you to guess again and again and again 😂

My father was telling me a story that happened to him about 20yrs ago. He was crossing back over the Tijuana, Mexico border into the states and there was this man there begging for money, doing the same thing these people in ur video r doing. Well after this man followed him and wouldn't leave him alone, my dad got pissed and very forcefully told the man to go get a freaking job and to stop harassing him. Well the man replied with 'this IS my job'.
I went to Nepal last month and I can say that it's the same case here, lots of beggars and even in busy traffic you can see children roaming around people's cars and begging for money and they keep on persisting. I was visiting a temple and I was surprised to see a bunch of beggars there too, no parents or anything, most of them were just children or literal babies yet they go around begging people walking by for money, they'll even go as far as to follow you for ages until they get something.
So proud of you Karlbab for exposing these scoundrels who prey on the sympathy and goodwill of others! Hey Karl, I am a Fiji Indian living in NZ for 20 years. Some of the scams you are highlighting here are now starting to be reported in NZ now. Shame on these beggars wearing turbans. Turbans are a sign of dignity and respect for yourself, others, culture and religion. To use it as a mechanism of gaining trust on foreigners is a slap in the face for all who wear their Turbans with pride.

Most probably they are not Sikh and just perpetrating these scams under the guise of the Turban because foreigners tend to think these people are genuine.
What sucks is that as Karl had mentioned once before in the past in another video, if they get aggressive with the touching in order to make you feel uncomfortable enough to entice you to give them money, if you decided to punch them or even just push them off, they’ll scam you by acting like a victim and pretending that they were being beaten up by a foreigner.
Karl, I have watched a few of your videos, and your love of India transcends the cautionary tales. Ceaseless harassment from touts. So many scammers and type of scams to defy comprehension....some relatively benign, but others that would ruin peoples lives: loan blackmail scams of nationals, phone scams that prey on vulnerable elderly foreigners. Rampant filth (the Sacred Ganges River is worse than an open sewer). Honestly, many find it difficult to respect this country as you do.
Yeah but other countries don't do this to the degree we know it's going on. This seems to be group think. It's part of their culture. Really abnormal society.
Always enjoy learning about how things like this operate....as scams are not just a tourist thing in India. Keep doing what you do Karl and make sure your awesome wife Manisha is happy!!
Class one, I worked in India for a year, the beggars in the market are a true action to follow. This guy had no legs, someone donated some money, he said thanks. Within 15 mins, he got out of the hole with both legs.
Karl, I visited Varanasi last Saturday. I saw the scamsters still there scamming people at the Ghats by applying Tilaks, etc. I cunningly ditched those scams, but helped a small 2-3 year old girl selling pens, by buying the pens from her. I was remembering you at that time. 🙂
I once had a kid hugging around me asking for money. I just told him to move away and refused initially. But he kept on hugging around my legs in tears, I was about to give in. That's when my father shouted at him and chased him away. After few mins, i could see him doing the same thing to the next person. They really make us uncomfortable and guilt trip. Thanks Karl on your message of saying NO firmly and standing by it
Thanks for spreading awareness! We all need to be alert and aware and stay safe from being scammed. Pay close attention to both their actions and their words.
I think saying No is allot harder for people especially myself who wanna help but ended up get you at the end. But thankfully over time saying No to people really does work and by the end of the day you feel better especially the next day. It’s okay to really say no when you feel uncomfortable.

Yeah, always had the best experience with sikh temples in india! The bigger temples usually have a room where you can leave your shoes, often there is someone there who will show you around, you can sit and listen to music, you can eat at the langar if you ask, very nice and relaxing, and they don't even ask for money! Without fail, everytime I visited a Sikh temple, they didn't ask me to pay and I had to ask them where the donation Box is! And they didn't seem to expect me to donate. Like, I don't mind giving a few hundred rupees, especially if i sat in the temple for half an hour and got to eat something in the langar, but it's nice that donations can be given freely and they don't pressure you. Granted, if you visit small hindu temples, they are often also genuinely welcoming, but especially some larger ones seemed quite capitalistic and lots of different altars where priests except donations.
Saying "no" is easier said than done. As a woman we fear saying no because of physical and social repercussions. I love to travel and right now I'm in Northern Europe, and while there may not be many beggars here, there are men who stop you just to talk to you / waste your time. In life there are people who can take more than money from you when they see you're a foreigner. So ladies (and gentlemen) if a stranger stops you anywhere, even if it's just to flirt, say no thank you (unless you're also interested) but don't carry on conversations with emotional vampires who are bored, want attention, or feel lonely. It's not youre job to entertain strangers especially when your in a foreign country and have plans and just want to relax.
Thank you Karl The problem is there are real people that truly need help but when scammers take advantage of peoples kindness and generosity they become suspicious even when real poor people need their help ,Also real poor children and adults begging in the streets need that help that is taken advantage of by scammers. Why are all these western people desperate to holiday in a country where everybody is on the make and on the take. If they want a holiday in asia go to China, it is fabulously stunning, no crime and no one harrassing tourists, then there is Singapore, Japan, Vietnam, Indonesia, bali etc.
Not all people in any country are totally honest in all their dealings with foreigners ,Many are kind and welcoming to their country because they know that tourism and a good vibe that tourists have and experience in the countries they go to is important for their future well being ,The ones that don’t care should realise that it brings a bad rap to everyone else that lives there.Don’t judge all by the actions of a few and embrace the culture and beauty of the country and the people that you visit and not on the negative but on the positives of your experiences ,

Not just for foreigners visiting India, this is so helpful for locals as well. The first scam shown in the video, the exact same thing happened to me a month ago. Wish Karl had uploaded this video a month ago 😢
What happens if you say a number?
If I say a number which they are expecting, they show you that they have correctly predicted the number as they wrote it on the paper. They might ask you one more question, like, name a milk giving animal or a garden flower. This is a simple psychological trick where most people, Indian at least, will choose cow or rose for those questions. Then they show you that they predicted correctly, and on that paper itself, will be an amount written. Like 1100 or 3100 and they will ask you to pay them that much amount.
If you give an answer which is different from what they've written, they will just shamelessly ask you to guess again and again and again 😂
Yes, even locals, but rich looking locals.

You really opened my eyes when you brought up that learning to say “No” is one of the most essential things in life, be it wherever you may be. I’ve been in really uncomfortable situations before because I didn’t know how to say no. I feel like I needed to hear that, so thank you!
Thanks for all the advise you give us. You didn’t just educate us on how to deal with these kinds of scams, but you also gave some really good life advice, so thank you! And keep us the great work!🙌🏼
Yeah, thats so true. Saying NO is a really important skill in life. I gotta learn that too.

Hey Karl, I am a Fiji Indian living in NZ for 20 years. Some of the scams you are highlighting here are now starting to be reported in NZ now. Because I look Indian, I have been approached for money especially at Indian shops and Temple. On asking questions these scammers start becoming defensive and sometimes abusive which because of my Fijian blood makes me so angry, that I start yelling at them. They eventually leave but my experience with these Indians keeps me from visiting India as I feel my temper will get the better of me there after seeing your videos. Thanks for all the great videos and stay safe.

What sucks is that as Karl had mentioned once before in the past in another video, if they get aggressive with the touching in order to make you feel uncomfortable enough to entice you to give them money, if you decided to punch them or even just push them off, they’ll scam you by acting like a victim and pretending that they were being beaten up by a foreigner.
which is why everyone usually records theirself afraid of what they will do
I think this will end up being one of your most popular videos! Thanks!
It's a profession 'tolerated' by the authorities by not taking action against them
The authorities who let this happen are part of the problem. Totally unacceptable behaviour.
Yeah but other countries don't do this to the degree we know it's going on. This seems to be group think. It's part of their culture. Really abnormal society.
