Exposing India's Begging Scams (Beware!)

- Have you come across these begging scams? Not all beggars are genuine; I expose 3 fake beggars in this video so you know what to avoid when you travel to India. The most common begging scams I've come across are the Ranipur calamity fake charity scam, fake medical bills scam, and fake donation collectors.
These scams can happen anywhere in India. Begging scammers commonly target tourist areas, busy intersections, expensive parts of cities, and railway stations. If you meet any of them, just say "no" and keep walking. Don't fall for their lies. These are professional beggars who are trying to trick you into donating money to a fake cause.
If you want to give to beggars, you need to verify their story. If approached by a beggar who claims to be in a dire situation, exercise caution. Ask questions and evaluate their responses. Genuine individuals in need might provide coherent and consistent explanations.
Trust your instincts too. If something feels suspicious or doesn't seem right, trust your gut instinct. It's better to err on the side of caution and refrain from engaging with potential scammers.
Spread awareness: Share information about begging scams with friends, family, and your community. Increasing awareness about these scams can help protect others from falling prey to fraudulent schemes.

what's wrong with having twins? is that another one of those screwed up lib ideologies?
@@HassanSanemnothing. I’m just not interested in having any children. But now twin boys are coming apparently.
Yep same in parts of Europe, where some children or women are actually maimed to go and beg on the street, same with the following and grabbing. In some cases, this can become aggressive.
@@KarlRockok man, cool.
That is why I never visit India. Never had problem when I was In China and Thailand.
It’s so sad that when all the scammers see Karl and just assume he is a foreigner but actually Karl lives in India
Omg he liked it
It works the other way too, when I was visiting India they assumed I was Indian (I'm not and don't speak a word of Hindi) and offered me local rates to attractions LOL, I still paid the foreign rate though.
I just spray them in the face with fart spray and run off
Lives in India? So what? He is still a foreigner
It's cuz he wears backpack out everytime lol
Moral of the story: Never give money to someone who follows you or forces you to donate.
Moral of the story : While in India you should never ever think about helping someone who is asking u money. If they follow you, turn back, roll your eyes and shout "Told you nooohhh" and they will vanish.
No, the moral is don't give money to anyone asking for it. They need to learn to earn it just like everyone else.
Only in india😂

5:08 “You got to learn to say NO!” - The best advice!
I used to be very soft-hearted and people were taking advantage of me because of that including the so called “friends” back then. It took years for me to learn to say no. If someone is around you because of benefits only, you’ll realize the truth the first time you say no.
Honestly, I dont see India as the next superpower, the corruption is crazy.

“Orphanage.”

I'm from India and i applaud you for bringing this to light and educating foreigners on these types of scams. I myself have been scammed plenty of times and it makes it harder to identify between genuine cases and fake ones. My advice is to Just don't trust those people and ignore them they will leave you alone.
You want a nice holiday? Never ever went to India 😅
I am an Indian, and I'm sad a lot of scams are going on in India. But I wanna Thank You for exposing these shameless scammers.
Edit: I'M FAMOUS!
I have been visit India as well, my private tour n driver always told me not to give them any money or fall from any scammer, there’s one scammer following me n my driver to my hotel, but eventually the security guard n staff from the hotel throw them away, when visit India always bring a guide which is makes u safer
If you're an Indian then you know/see that these type of scams happen every day across the country, why haven't you done anything to stop this type of thing? Why are Indians so apathetic? Is it the chalta hai attitude?
@@SenorSol I don't trust most of them and these people are the reasons why. Their not even good at it and everyone now relates East Indian's to scamming which actually is sad. This needs to be fixed at all levels of your society in order to gain any trust again. As soon as I hear an east Indian accent on my phone I hang up within a Milla second
@@dcollier7239 Firstly, I'm not Indian. Secondly, it's sad that you don't trust anyone from the subcontinent, I know many Indians who are not only trustworthy but kind and hospitable too. We must be careful not to tarnish the entire country with the same brush, but my point goes to the daily scamming and hassles that happen when one is a foreign tourist in India. The begging and harassment never stops.
@lunar_lyrics2023 Scammers are everywhere in the world not only in India.
I fell for the hotel tariff scam while working in Bengaluru. A man came up to me with a story of having to be in the City but he cannot afford the hotel bill (if I recall). I paid something, but less than he wanted. A month later (when I was more of a veteran to life in India), the same guy came to me with the same exact story when I was downtown around MG and Brigade. I lost it on him, and made a scene, as I was frustrated and to let others around know not to fall for the scam.
Yeah, it sucks because most people do want to help genuine people. But these people just destroy that trust.
If anyone approaches you for anything in India it's a scam. No exceptions. It's harsh but don't acknowledge their presence and they will go away.
I found him near Majestic Bus station few months back I think. The story was more or less the same.
Never beat him up?
something similar happened to me there lo l but the guy came 2 hours later back to me and repeated the story i was like "wtf u told me that shit 2 hours ago " then he walked off when he remembered .
I love how you are firm but also compassionate to anyone genuinely ill...
Thanks for spreading awareness! We all need to be alert and aware and stay safe from being scammed. Pay close attention to both their actions and their words.
Good job Karl showing us foreigners what to watch out for. I usually just say no and walk away.

These scams are very common in Delhi, I lived in Delhi for a good numbers of years and I have seen so many of these scammers, first time I met them I thought it was genuine but turned out it was scam. Karl I am sure your boldness of exposing these scams are saving lot of tourists. Keep up the good work.
Delhi sounds delicious. I'm craving some bread.
Hey Karl, I am a Fiji Indian living in NZ for 20 years. Some of the scams you are highlighting here are now starting to be reported in NZ now. Because I look Indian, I have been approached for money especially at Indian shops and Temple. On asking questions these scammers start becoming defensive and sometimes abusive which because of my Fijian blood makes me so angry, that I start yelling at them. They eventually leave but my experience with these Indians keeps me from visiting India as I feel my temper will get the better of me there after seeing your videos. Thanks for all the great videos and stay safe.
Hey I’m also Fijian living in Auckland. Where abouts r these scammers based?
@@ashweta21 Hi so I have been mostly been approached outside Shiv mandir, Manukau mall and otahuhu shops. The scams are donations for charity organizations so I tell them I will direct debit if I can have their card, would be astrologers and people needing operations and needing money for it.
@@sharilnarayan1641 shiv mandir manurewa? Wow surprisingly i always shop at manukau mall n have never been approached but yes I’ve definitely heard of so called astrologers coming from india n asking ppl for money. It’s been in the news as well.

I'm glad you're putting these videos out, the scary thing is that even Indians find these to be content they're not aware about. I've actually learned a lot about these scams. Cheers mate! 🍻
Not just for foreigners visiting India, this is so helpful for locals as well. The first scam shown in the video, the exact same thing happened to me a month ago. Wish Karl had uploaded this video a month ago 😢
What happens if you say a number?
If I say a number which they are expecting, they show you that they have correctly predicted the number as they wrote it on the paper. They might ask you one more question, like, name a milk giving animal or a garden flower. This is a simple psychological trick where most people, Indian at least, will choose cow or rose for those questions. Then they show you that they predicted correctly, and on that paper itself, will be an amount written. Like 1100 or 3100 and they will ask you to pay them that much amount.
If you give an answer which is different from what they've written, they will just shamelessly ask you to guess again and again and again 😂
Yes, even locals, but rich looking locals.
i can't believe my eyes to see hindus disguising in sikh turbans and wearing articles of faith while scamming people 😭😭 , hopefully an action against it
I'd say jaow PODAHMyRee !
Best choice is to say NO and completely ignore them and walk away.

Preach, word to the “No”!
I really enjoyed your straight talking about saying, “No”.
Karl, I have watched a few of your videos, and your love of India transcends the cautionary tales. Ceaseless harassment from touts. So many scammers and type of scams to defy comprehension....some relatively benign, but others that would ruin peoples lives: loan blackmail scams of nationals, phone scams that prey on vulnerable elderly foreigners. Rampant filth (the Sacred Ganges River is worse than an open sewer). Honestly, many find it difficult to respect this country as you do.
You really opened my eyes when you brought up that learning to say “No” is one of the most essential things in life, be it wherever you may be. I’ve been in really uncomfortable situations before because I didn’t know how to say no. I feel like I needed to hear that, so thank you!
Thanks for all the advise you give us. You didn’t just educate us on how to deal with these kinds of scams, but you also gave some really good life advice, so thank you! And keep us the great work!🙌🏼
Yeah, thats so true. Saying NO is a really important skill in life. I gotta learn that too.

Such a good video I really like watching them! Being an Aussie and wanting to travel to India one day soon I can now understand fully what I need to look out for! Both Karl and his Wife are so good at doing what they do 👍🏼👌🏼
My father was telling me a story that happened to him about 20yrs ago. He was crossing back over the Tijuana, Mexico border into the states and there was this man there begging for money, doing the same thing these people in ur video r doing. Well after this man followed him and wouldn't leave him alone, my dad got pissed and very forcefully told the man to go get a freaking job and to stop harassing him. Well the man replied with 'this IS my job'.
Thank you for this video, Karl. I have struggled with not only saying no to these scammers but also walking away after that. I have a lot to take away from this!
You're absolutely right about saying no and saying it with absolute conviction. I've offended a few people in my travels when I've said no but I don't care because I don't owe the anything.
Your content is always so amazing, innovative, fresh, interesting. Big respect brother, just saw your video on being a metalhead too, you're even cooler than I could have imagined mate! 🙂❤️
If, somehow, by any chance the fortune teller's prediction about Manu having twins really come to reality, please do make an update video, Karl 🤣
What sucks is that as Karl had mentioned once before in the past in another video, if they get aggressive with the touching in order to make you feel uncomfortable enough to entice you to give them money, if you decided to punch them or even just push them off, they’ll scam you by acting like a victim and pretending that they were being beaten up by a foreigner.
which is why everyone usually records theirself afraid of what they will do
Thank you karl, am travelling to these part your clips are so helpful

It's a profession 'tolerated' by the authorities by not taking action against them
The authorities who let this happen are part of the problem. Totally unacceptable behaviour.
Yeah but other countries don't do this to the degree we know it's going on. This seems to be group think. It's part of their culture. Really abnormal society.

much love Karl from Wellington, i love how humble and geniune you are! you have made it without the support of adverts too
I went to Nepal last month and I can say that it's the same case here, lots of beggars and even in busy traffic you can see children roaming around people's cars and begging for money and they keep on persisting. I was visiting a temple and I was surprised to see a bunch of beggars there too, no parents or anything, most of them were just children or literal babies yet they go around begging people walking by for money, they'll even go as far as to follow you for ages until they get something.
It's good that Kyle is educating people about scammers in India but also kind of showing why we you shouldn't visit it which is kind of sad😢
I fell victim to this recently in Chennai. Unfortunate but it is a learning experience

Thank you so much for your hard work and dedication to the truth.
I'm a very sensitive one, I would be guilt tripped into giving by just standing there and looking at me in a sad way.
I know there are so many scammers, but I always think of those who legitimately have to beg in order to survive. There are indeed children begging, I'm sure you know.😢😢
And now, HOW can I see it. I mean, genuine beggars also sometimes tend to pressure, depending on how their day went.

My basic rule whenever I visit india is to just keep my head down and not interact with strangers. Best way. Don’t engage with beggars or people claiming to be beggars. Even real beggars can sometimes be ungrateful for how much you give them.
Saying "no" is easier said than done. As a woman we fear saying no because of physical and social repercussions. I love to travel and right now I'm in Northern Europe, and while there may not be many beggars here, there are men who stop you just to talk to you / waste your time. In life there are people who can take more than money from you when they see you're a foreigner. So ladies (and gentlemen) if a stranger stops you anywhere, even if it's just to flirt, say no thank you (unless you're also interested) but don't carry on conversations with emotional vampires who are bored, want attention, or feel lonely. It's not youre job to entertain strangers especially when your in a foreign country and have plans and just want to relax.
Bro your like my grandma when we see begging scammers. You are awesome!
I think saying No is allot harder for people especially myself who wanna help but ended up get you at the end. But thankfully over time saying No to people really does work and by the end of the day you feel better especially the next day. It’s okay to really say no when you feel uncomfortable.

@@_Amit_Sunil I wasn’t talking about the population of your country, I was commenting about physical personal space when out which is what the video is about. Given there weren’t all that many people walking around it’s pretty obvious why someone who appears western would be targeted. The reverse would be true here. Try walking in tourist traps in NYC, there’s a reason why they’re labeled as such.
