I don't think the issue is whether you're using too many or too few mechanics (there is a wide range of abilities at any rank), but more so the fact that your movement is so clean and quick without any mistakes. If you really want to get to SSL without mechanics, you need to do it with some like random weird controller or control scheme so your muscle memory doesn't carry over.
This is exactly what I was thinking too. It's not so much the use of mechanics but the ball sense and game sense you have and the ability to execute based off of your opponents actions. I've been a hard stuck D2/3 for the longest time. Every so often I creep into C1 but I'm too inconsistent to progress farther

I know he makes it look so easy, but I feel like you need to have the confidence of a gc to be so calm in some of those situations. Like I don't know if I would be able to save the goals so easily, but he knows. But I think the video is great and most diamond players should watch it to learn how to be calm and focused in games.
its hardly applicable what he does in a real diamond lobby. everything he does from soft touches to ball control, taking 50s etc is very clearly a muscle memory he has from being a higher ranked player.
I’m very excited to see the C2 rank. That’s about where I’m at and it feels so weird cuz some games you get gc’s that actually know what they’re doing then you get people fresh out of Diamond then you get hard stuck champs that only know how to dive lol 😂

I think one of the keys to ranking up is being able to read your opponents. But the higher you get in rank the more you have to read your opponents and be aware of their threats. From a defensive standpoint this is one of the more difficult parts. Like when challenging, how do I recognize the best time to go?
I just made a comment on this and I fluctuate between High d3 and low d2. I only get to play once or so a week. Decision making is key and ballgame control and double commits are huge

No, people at this rank can definitely do it consistently and cleanly. They just don’t usually pull it out in ranked games. I know this because I duod with someone here and he never did fancy stuff, but in our practice arena pre game he was air dribbling and flip resetting very well. I am no where close to that personally, but I bet it’s more common to have the skill than we see in game. That said, I do see air dribbles once every game or two even if they aren’t clean. There was one guy today that did two amazing air dribbles in a row and my teammate and I didn’t have a clue of how to stop it.

Yeah exactly. A lot of high level players use their mechanics a lot, but this series is just about not using them until they’re needed. I’ll say as a diamond in a couple of these situations I would not be able to save it. Either I wouldn’t get there fast enough or I’d make a bad save leaving an open net.
Most of the so called “speedflips” in diamond untill GC+ are a hybrid of the oldschool fast kickoff. But instead of a diagonal flip they use a sideflip. Cause alot of people can’t tell the difference between a speedflip and a sideflip. If you fast kickoff it has a similar result as the speedflip just quite a bit slower. Nevertheless it still alowes you to shoot the ball right over your opponent and score directly, just like a speedflip. Seriously guys, don’t get this confused. If you learn how to speedflip, do everything step by step. Else you will develop super bad habits.

Hey I would love a video on proper positioning. Not even a lesson, just an hour of examples and explaining in detail why you are where you are, or maybe comm can help. I would love that I have so much trouble knowing which position I need to be in. I'm sitting high c2/low c3 solo queue only. I'm not gonna go get a tm8 to hit GC either. But would love a breakdown on positioning based off everyone's speed and boost

Tbh I think the biggest problem that ppl can't rank up is other people and themselves. It is other people telling them at their first miss with the quick chat that they are trash and themselves by wanting to prove themselves to a random dude, which is probably living in the basement of their mom's house.
When I play in diamond on an alt I literally saw players consistently hitting multiple resets. I met a diamond 'freestyler' in cas 1s (hardstuck diamond not smurfing) who quad stall reset on me. Obviously they were lacking in other departments and losing to players with worse mechanics, but genuinely they had as good or better 'flashy mechanics' as an SSL and better than me.

My biggest issue (idk if anyone can relate) has always been being too hype if that makes sense, I be so hyped in game to play and react to stuff that I tend to either play dummy agro or I mess up on mechs. When I play chill, I play good and I think SO many of us need this advice imo, lol we all just need to chill we aren’t rlcs

I realize this blows up the premise of all these “get guud” flex videos but if you’re seriously trying to be helpful instead of getting clicks & selling coaching, you should be transparent about the amount of hours it takes/took you to master the nuances of regular, nonflashy ball & car control.

Zero fancy mechanics but great and powerful shooting as well as perfect defense so it would be pretty easy without any fancy mechs. I think it’s really hard still because no dribbling and air dribbling is the main factor
Ballcam control is huge and not spoke about enough. The difference between not knowing and knowing where your opponents are and if you can beat them to the ball.

I mean...it is possible to win Diamond with 0 mechanics but it's way too hard and depends who you match up with. Basic aerial, control, shadowing and flicking is necessary even if you're not consistent to progress further. As you saw in Platinum and Diamond, some people are practicing advance mechanics like speed flipping so if you don't know even some basic stuff then you will be most likely rolled by other team. So if you do occasional flick and save by shadowing is totally okay in this rank.
where do you find such a chill lobby to play in? I don't get the luxury in diamond of a teammate who has the slightest amount patience. they'd have already run me over and stolen several times in the first minute of gameplay
Dudes surprised that his first tm8 is trying to speed flip. Yes d2 they start to have mechanics and can hit “crazy” things it’s just the consistency isn’t there yet. So speed flips, half flips, Air dribbling. Shoot even ceiling shots is a thing. It’s just the consistency. Otherwise I play against a Smurf almost every game.

I think regions differ, and I also think time of day differs. When school lets out, the game play gets noticeably stupider because the kids get on to play, for example.
You're pretty much spot on about the consistency in diamond. I just hit champ recently. And all through diamond you see games where ppl are speedflipping and air dribbling. And like you said I've definitely seen a few cieling shots and resets that were done clearly not by smurfs cause you can tell they practice those shots and nothing else. While you're next few games ppl can't even hit the ball and just boost towards the ball on kick off.

I feel like the thing that makes this hard to apply for diamonds isn't so much the level of mechanics. It's that a diamond does not have the game sense, the reads, or the car/ball control to play like this. It's very easy to say something like "and here I'm just gonna catch the ball and keep it close so I can cut it and get around the defender", but if you ask the average diamond to do this, chances are their touch will be all wrong and the ball rolls off for a perfect setup to the closest opponent who bangs it right in your net. Similar with some defensive situations. It's easy to say "don't flip/commit too early, just take it easy, wait for the right time", but for the average diamond, the decision making and the reads aren't there. Seeing and understanding how your opponent moves, what touch they will make, what threat there is, just how long you can wait, exactly how much of the net you're covering, etc. are incredibly advanced skills where a GC/SSL just can't put themselves into the mind of a diamond. It won't play out the same.
maaaaaan i wish my diamond games were this easy. im a champ in 2s ow but my diamond games were a whole lot harder than this. yes, obviously I dont have the understanding he does, but my games were so much more difficult..

I change my mind, he dribbles and ariels woth perfection. He doesn’t go for a ton of fancy ariels but this is still more mechanical than most diamonds

I mean...it is possible to win Diamond with 0 mechanics but it's way too hard and depends who you match up with. Basic aerial, control, shadowing and flicking is necessary even if you're not consistent to progress further. As you saw in Platinum and Diamond, some people are practicing advance mechanics like speed flipping so if you don't know even some basic stuff then you will be most likely rolled by other team.
So if you do occasional flick and save by shadowing is totally okay in this rank.

Dudes surprised that his first tm8 is trying to speed flip. Yes d2 they start to have mechanics and can hit “crazy” things it’s just the consistency isn’t there yet. So speed flips, half flips, Air dribbling. Shoot even ceiling shots is a thing. It’s just the consistency. Otherwise I play against a Smurf almost every game.

I think regions differ, and I also think time of day differs. When school lets out, the game play gets noticeably stupider because the kids get on to play, for example.
You're pretty much spot on about the consistency in diamond. I just hit champ recently. And all through diamond you see games where ppl are speedflipping and air dribbling. And like you said I've definitely seen a few cieling shots and resets that were done clearly not by smurfs cause you can tell they practice those shots and nothing else. While you're next few games ppl can't even hit the ball and just boost towards the ball on kick off.

Im d3 and i can say he's not doing enough. Anybody diamond thinking that he is doing too much just doesn't have the mindset and can understand the methods as to what he is doing to win and move up let's be honest.

As a diamond I can say there’s a lot of people who can speed flip in diamond
I feel like the thing that makes this hard to apply for diamonds isn't so much the level of mechanics. It's that a diamond does not have the game sense, the reads, or the car/ball control to play like this.
It's very easy to say something like "and here I'm just gonna catch the ball and keep it close so I can cut it and get around the defender", but if you ask the average diamond to do this, chances are their touch will be all wrong and the ball rolls off for a perfect setup to the closest opponent who bangs it right in your net.
Similar with some defensive situations. It's easy to say "don't flip/commit too early, just take it easy, wait for the right time", but for the average diamond, the decision making and the reads aren't there. Seeing and understanding how your opponent moves, what touch they will make, what threat there is, just how long you can wait, exactly how much of the net you're covering, etc. are incredibly advanced skills where a GC/SSL just can't put themselves into the mind of a diamond. It won't play out the same.
