I have a 1978 retro twin on my living room wall....a birthday present from my family. Mark's twin fins are iconic and the resurgence of interest well deserved. He is a clever, talented and intelligent surfer and shaper who won four world titles on his own equipment. Hearing him speak of the ideas behind this 1980 retro model demonstrates his insight in hydrodynamic surfboard design tailored to those of us who are recreational surfers usually surfing small junky beach breaks. I wouldn't mind having another one of his twin fins for bigger surf....next birthday perhaps.
What a legend....so great to hear him explaining his surfboards from scratch. Shaping so many years and being in shape plus riding the same 80es retro twin since 36years speaks for itself ... awesome / we are proud selling your boards and work with @euroglass and legends like you, Belly, Christiaan Bradley, Phippsy and the Italian boys Matteo & Leo...👌 great personalities create awesome products and stories, we like to see and listen. Thank you for sharing this ...Mark is such an inspirational personality .... 🌊
Was lucky enough to be out surfing with MR many many times at his home break of merewther. That and wagging school to go hang out at his shop. One of the humbled people you could meet. True legend
I really love the 82 retro. MR made me mine back in 09 . Deep single into double concave with a heavy vee out the tail. It works insane! Thanks Mark. I'll never part with this board.
I had Mark Richards 1978 for that he won the dy contest on that was in surfing magazine with he won the Monopoly money I gave it to Sonny Garcia in two thousand In honor 🤙of his world championship🤙 I loved that twin fin I shredded that board 6'6 All over my hometown breaks in Leucadia/ Encinitas . Sonny still has my board hanging in his house 🎻
SOME NOT SO LEGENDARY SHAPERS STILL GO WITH OLD SCHOOL SHAPES --- GOD BLESS THEM - JUST BECAUSE THEY WORK SO WELL AND THEY'RE SO FUN TO RIDE AND SOME PEOPLE I KNOW STILL SHAPE THESE BEAUTIFUL BOARDS AND THEY WORK EVEN FOR A WOUNDED OLD FAT GUY LIKE ME - "WHEN IT'S PITCHING" BUT IT'S A LOT OF WORK TO PADDLE - THAT'S WHY I LOVE THE KING FISH BUT NOT TO WIDE - ANYWAY , HAPPY TRAILS YOU WATER DOGS .
I owned Mark Richards 1978 Twin fin he won Dee wy contest $100,000 in Monopoly money it was one of the greatest boards I've ever had in my life I gave it to Sunny Garcia in 2000 and Sonny won the World Championship that year not on the twin fin he uses it for a wall hanger in his house I wish I still had that board
You're absolutely right my first custom board was a 6-2 19 and a 1/2 inch wide swallowtail that was a bullet a brewer fin to go with it I remember the first time I took it out it took off without me holyshit I thought but at the end of the day I was tearing it up.
How will those MR twin fins with trailer work on a board with a wide "normal" tail (not fish/swallow)? Specially thinking about on the Firewire Creeper.
We use the MR fins on a lot of different boards. They provide the drive of a twin fin with a much more controlled turn from the trailer. They should work well on the Creeper, especially in smaller surf. Cheers - Ashlon

Was just told to get a custom i would be waiting until the end of January and I live in Newcastle same as MR, hate to see the wait over in the US
Also what an absolute legend, I have talked to him in his old shop, such a modest man. You the man MR.
Dane, the wait would be worth it, that's only around 3 months to have the board of your dreams. Call them back and order it!
@@REALWatersports I bought one off the shelf. Love it
FCS needs to make white fin boxes,… for the matter of aesthetics.

I agree with MR as board color does make an influence on contest points. Keep it clean in my opinion.
