    Wow, Really nice work. I build wooden hollow boards made of pauwlonia and thinking of adding a center channel to a twin fish. How deep do those center channels gets in mm on the edge of the tail? 10mm or so ??

    Is it any harder to glass a board with channels?

    • @Shrednaught
      @Shrednaught  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      It is more complex. When you wrap the glass around the rails it can cause the glass to “tent” up in the channels causing massive air bubbles under neath. There’s a few tricks to get around this that’ll I’ll show in the glassing video of this board 🤙

  • @adamjones6747
    @adamjones6747 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey mate when making a board do you have a shaping room and a separate room for glassing, any info on how to set up rooms and what is needed. cheers

    • @Shrednaught
      @Shrednaught  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeh I do but it isn’t necessary. You can shape and glass in the same room you just need make sure you give the room a real good clean before glassing

    What kind of rocker numbers (nose & tail) did you use on this type of board?

    I've never had a board with channels. What do they do for handling?

    • @Shrednaught
      @Shrednaught  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They can add some bite through the tail section when engaging. Or help hold through the suckier barrel type sections.
      This is subjective though. I personally am not a huge fan as I find they feel stiff. But it’s always up to the rider 🤙

    What kind of tape do you use? The painters tape I use never likes to stick to foam

    • @Shrednaught
      @Shrednaught  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I use 3M 233+
      Yeh painters tape will fall off. Make sure you clean as much dust off the board as possible either with a dust brush or air compressor and then when you have you tape down lightly press it down with the back of a razor or a pop stick.
      Hope that helps mate 🤙

    Great work, I have learned so much. One question, how much distance is from tail to fins?. Thank you so much for you support! 🙌🏽

    • @Shrednaught
      @Shrednaught  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For this particular board it was about 10 1/2 - 3/4 for sides and 2 1/2 for trailer.

      @@Shrednaught nice! If it were twinfin how much distance? From tail to fins?. I am doing a rounded pin Twinfin surboard with channels and I have doubts. 🙌🏽 thanks so much for the support

    • @Shrednaught
      @Shrednaught  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That kinda depends on the length of the board and also the fins you want to use. Upright twins will be slightly different to keels.
      Do a google and there is a bunch of info to read up about these placements.

    why did u shape the channels first before shaping the rest of the board

    • @Shrednaught
      @Shrednaught  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The board was already shaped mate. Channels are the last thing apart from a final swipe with some high grit gauze

  • @tomb4291
    @tomb4291 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey mate awesome vid, just curious about bottom contours with channels. Did you do any V at the back before putting the channels in? Or flat surface? I have a little square tail fish twinny I am shaping have done single concave through to slight V, hoping I can still put channels into this setup?

    • @Shrednaught
      @Shrednaught  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I generally go with flat but as long as it’s not too extreme I don’t see why you still couldn’t. 🤙

  • @foamhacker6396
    @foamhacker6396 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    This is amazing, thanks for sharing. I'm curious how you would deal with fin boxes if they weren't glassed on? The inside part of the future box would stick out into the channel, right?

    • @Shrednaught
      @Shrednaught  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks mate. The fin boxes would dictate where the channels would run so you could avoid that scenario. For example I’d mark my fin positions , route my fin boxes out and then do my channels based on the fin boxes. You can use thicker tape the same way in the video if you’re using boxes and it’ll get you past the box flange. Hope that made some sort of sense haha 🤙
