Ya know, speaking of Red Heart yarns --I have seen those a few times here and the memories flood in so I have to say something. In my hometown where I grew up in Massachusetts, we had a little yarn shop - called Hazel's Yarns. I STILL remember when I walked in there, the distinctive smell of I guess it was all the nice new yarns (it was NICE!) and Hazel would meet you at the door with a hug if she knew you..but always tried to greet her customers who she treated as friends. I remember how the yarns were all by color, her store looking like a rainbow just exploded all over the place. Last time I was there was in the 1990s sooo it's been WAY long. Her daughter took it over after Hazel passed for a while but in came Urban Development and higher rents and they had to close.. I STILL miss going there in the early 70s, wanting to pick up yarns and string for my gramma.. She made the most intricate, awesome doilies! Even after 2 strokes..she came back! Always making those and crocheting in her room with her TV..she was homebound by then - the point as far as here is she ALWAYS had Red Heart yarns..even back in the 60s when I'd sit in her living room watching her, wanting to learn.. Red Heart is what her knitting bag was full of. Mine started out that way too one day.. as did my daughter's (She's almost 45 now) Just rambling, you know how GOOD memories warm our hearts. God bless and keep you all.. Crystal, thanks for all you do to make your channel special, and having Tutorials for years long "rookies" like me.. I have always had a hard time, my disabilities making that even worse, though I love to try! Have a wonderful weekend all!! EDIT was to fix an error on a date --
I agree, Red Heart is the better yarn! The longer that I knit & crochet, the more I lean towards Red Heart because of the multitude of colors, the price, how accessible it is & most importantly - projects made with Red Heart super saver last a lifetime ! It holds up so well after years of use! Love these comparison videos!! Thanks Crystal!
I’m definitely going to try the super saver. I bought a bunch of Big Twist bc of the anti-pilling on the label, but the yarn twists and opens up catching the hook a lot.
I find that tumble drying some less expensive acrylics causes them to pill or get fuzzy. I tend to opt for the loosely twisted yarns too so that my projects have a better drape when completed. However, I have discovered that using a larger hook size, than recommended, gives the fabric a better drape. It also helps to avoid making my work very tight.
I'm fortunate that I live 1/2 hour from Wal-Mart, JoAnne, Michael's In live in Maine. I do use red heart alot, but am dissatisfied with their coordinated yarn not as much in the skeins as their plain colors and cost the same and is thinner. I do love their colors. I went to JoAnne's this week and they had the BIG Twist on sale for a $1.50 a skein...wooohooo.... I grab a cart and an a half😂😂😂😂their coordinated colors weren't on sale. But for this price couldn't pass them up. I got alot of colors plus there sparkle ones!! I love sparkle. I will be doing lap blankets for nursinghomes and hats☺
I am fortunate to have a Joanne's and a Walmart both close to me. I have always used Red Heart when I need a value Yarn but dont really care for it. But its washable and dryable and the colors are vibrant. So it gets the job done. I wouldnt want to use the Big Twist if it cant be put in the dryer. But love that it is so soft. It's Tempting. Thanks Crystal!
I am not willing to lay it out to dry just to save a little money. I will do it for a really nice yarn I love but not for a value yarn. Thanks for the review & for pointing out you can't dry it in the dryer.
I would make a swatch and put it in the washer and dryer. I'm sure it would hold up. Then if it holds up I would buy it, otherwise no way. I live by two AC Moore's so use Studio Classic by Nicole, it's softer than Red Heart and it goes on sale or I use a coupon. I have every store by me. My favorite is still Caron Simply Soft all and any baby things I make out of Simply soft!
I've got to stay with Red Heart. I do a lot of charity crocheting/knitting & that means washer & dryer friendly is required. Thanks for the review Crystal!
My biggest test when buying yarn is touch, fiber content, yarn weight and then price. Thank you for your review. Keep them coming, love them. 👍🤗😁😘 I do like Red Heart Super Saver.
First off, you are NEVER boring!!! I used to do private care sitting for terminally ill patients. I've also worked as a cashier in convenience stores and grocery stores. I worked away a pharmaceutical warehouse at one time too! Good luck everyone!!! Awesome, awesome, awesome giveaway!
I tried Big Twist to experiment with. I did what I do with Red Heart. I washed it and put it in a low heat dryer. The Big Twist melted in spots and it felt like a plastic bag.
Thank you for the info!! I had bought some this afternoon and did not know it was lay flat to dry. Gonna return them even though I got a good price plus bonus coupon.
I don't buy yarn unless it can be washed and dried in the dryer. So I'm actually hooked on Michael's Never Enough Yarn, Caron Simply Soft and Red Heart Super Saver Yarn. Thank you for your review of JoAnne's Big Twist Yarn.
I live in New Jersey, and Joann's here have a large selection of the Big Twist yarns, they are labeled different and , washable and dryable. I love Red heart yarns, l buy on sale all the time from which ever yarns.
Thanks Crystal for the review on these yarns. I do like Red Heart Yarns and usually what I buy. Your honest opinions really helps me decide about the various yarns and what to buy, as you have many years of experience with different yarns. Love it ! Keep up the great work! 🤗
Before I deviate from Super Saver on big projects (afghans and blankets) I like to do a BIG swatch and send it off to the washer and dryer for multiple cycles to make sure it will hold up. I see one comment here that big twist failed in the dryer!! Even though the packaging warns . . This stuff ends up in the wash when gifted! Thanks to the commenter who shared her dryer experience! I have super saver blankets that are 40 plus years old and still look nice! I have also learned by swatching that everything I make with Super Saver is much softer after washing and the drape improves. I need to be aware of this when I choose hook/needle size. Thanks Crystal for the comparison and review.
Yes, me too. I make so much for donation, it has to be wash and dry! I wouldn't have thought to even look at that, acrylic I'd assume wash & dryable. Very glad for this review.
After watching you fondle your yarns, and squeeze them, I amused myself by doing that in my JoAnns. I did buy the big twist because it was so appealing. I have been making turkey footed baby booties in thanksgiving colors and they are adorable.
Hi Crystal thank you for your review on the big twist yarn from Joanns . I have not seen it there .But I will stay with my Red Heart yarn .God Bless you all.Have a blessed day and blessed church service today.👍🏻🧶🙋🏻♀️
I would have gone with the Red Heart as well. Great tutorial. Thank you Crystal for always taking the time to do all the yarn reviews you do. It helps out a lot when making a choice of all the yarns out there. Be well my dear. 💜
Just bought Big Twist Tranquil brand last weekend and did not see the "Dry Flat" until after I got home and read the label. I read some of the other comments on this video and saw that the yarn can melt in spots if put in the dryer, I will take mine back and exchange it for a yarn that can be dried in a dryer. Thanks for the review and thanks to the other viewers who shared their experience with this yarn.
As soon as you held the two side by side up close to the camera, I could SEE a big difference in quality. Red Heart is clearly better made. The other looked flimsy and sort of a hot mess in comparison. Great review, Crystal!
Thank you for the review. Red heart is my go to for yarn. And if you cannot put in the dryer big twist does not cut it. I don’t want somebody to accidentally kill something I made for them by throwing it in the dryer
I have not tried the Big Twist yarn yet I want to one day. I started crocheting 40yrs plus and Red Heart was the first I crocheted with I love red heart. Thanks for the review Crystal.
The beautiful light rose shade caught my attentionr & it was on sale so I bought it. The hats turned out beautiful, will purchase again. Thanks for your review Crystal ❤
Big twist are softer than Red Heart ❤️ yarns but I noticed the shiny effects on the Big twist as well as the softness. Also, the Big twist has brilliant colors skeins . The only thing I could think 🤔 is that I justified the yarn 🧶 by its best quality not quantity. So all that’s said I’m a Big Fan of RED Hearts. 🥰 I’ve been crocheting 🧶 with Red Heart ❤️ for the longest to know this one ☝️. Thanks for REMINDING me about what it looks like and how much RedHeart bonding is loved. Thanks. I’m ... happy to see this message posted today. I’m just a Red Heart yarn 🧶 fan on this journey . In my intonation voice. Thanks again for sharing your interesting journey with me.
I have not tried it as of yet. I have bought red heart super saver almost always and I like the colors in solid and verigated. Thank you Crystal for the review.
Thank you for the review. I have to agree with you on this one, I’ll stick with my go to yarn -Red Heart. I love that there is no dye lot and how affordable it is. Love your reviews 💕
I decided to try Big Twist about a year ago when Joannes was running a killer sale and I was only paying $1.20 a skein. I stocked up and decided to make a few blankets because it is super soft. All of the blankets have turned out great but I DO NOT put in the dryer. I always hang them to dry. I am a big fan of both but for blanket making I prefer Big Twist because it is softer. Red Heart makes up the majority of the rest of my projects. Happy crocheting and knitting everyone! Thanks for the review Crystal!
I was looking for orange to do your pumpkin hats and couldn't find it anywhere in the red heart super saver, so I bought the color pumpkin in the big twist and made the hat with it. It was fine for that. But, red heart is my go to. Thanks for the yarn review!
TY for the review Crystal.I have never used that yarn and probably won't,just for the pure fact that before I block something or lay flat to dry it would have to be a special piece or expensive yarn.Acrylic is a common yarn used by most of us at some time and I do love acrylics.Love tumble dry also.lol
Red heart is good enough for grandma and I find myself going back every time Unforgettable is my favorite But why mess with perfection 🙏🏻💕🌹 Thank u Crystal Stay safe
I have used Red Heart super saver for years. I bought a skein of the big twist to make a hat for my granddaughter. We will see how it works up. Thank you for your time and review. Just wish my Walmart had more yarn.
I've use the Big Twist to make an afghan I liked it, but I've got tons of red heart. I don't dry any of my crochet items. I like both and will continue to buy both, depending on what I'm making
TY for this video. I don't like goin to Joann's due to their location. Its always busy over there and its a 30 to 45 min drive. Until late Oct I barely could do a single stitch and now I'm venturing out of my comfort zone and learning more. Now my husband is begging for an afghan. And Joann's has the big twist on sale for $2 so I figured go stock up on a few for him.
We put big twist in our dryer (apartment laundry room) on lowest heat, does fine. No change at all to the yarn. It’s a lightweight yarn (featherweight feel) and I do like a heavier feel to my yarn.
I have tried using Big Twist and was mot impressed. A msjority of my stuff is donated,,so it needs to be washable/dry-able. Thanks for the heads up. Looks like I’ll be using Super Saver.
I was just at Joann's yesterday. I brought a couple of colors and it is softer. They had several colors. Making a dragon sweater for my grandson so I'll see how it works up.
Thanks for this review. I really appreciate a softer yarn and live about 30 minutes from either of 2 Joann’s. So I would likely pick the Big Twist for those reasons. I will have to check it out! Take care, Crystal!
I have used the Big Twist. It worked up just like the Red Heart. Very similar yarn. Big Twist Collection Value Worsted Yarn $2.62 Reg. $3.49 right now at the Joann website. I bought it online because of the price. There are 72 color selections on the site. So between the two I still favor my Red Heart but if you can get it online at a sale price it would be worth the try. Sometimes when I crochet I have the split yarn issue with Red Heart (Operator error) lol. I had the same experience with the Big Twist. I grew up on Red Heart so it is a go to favorite as far as my comfort zone. Now after watching Bag O Day videos I now have a variety of yarn I have not worked with before. It is exciting to use new yarns to complete different projects. Thank you for the comparison. I appreciate the hard work you do. Thank you
I love Red Heart Super Saver. But I did buy several skeins of the Joann's Big Twist Value and mine say machine washable and dryable. The wrapper is a tan color. I haven't used it yet. Thanks for the review Crystal.
Thank you for the review. The big twist value is 2.50 today. If you can iron it, i can't understand not being able to dry it. I'm going to work up a swatch and wash and dry it. Hopefully it goes well ❤
I haven't used red heart in years due to all of the other choices and I hate how it feels in the skein. Now that you mention it and I do remember buying in the past, it does soften in the wash. I'll have to see if I have some stashed and try it again on a small project and wash it. Never tried big twist. Thanks for the review!
I haven't seen that big twist at my JoAnns. You're right, RH Super Saver softens up quite a bit after washing, I was actually quite surprised & impressed by that.
I have been using Red heart for years, and recently started using Big Twist and I love it. I'm working on a C2C and I love the softeness of it. Once I wash it I will see how it does.
Hi Crystal. Just watching your review of the big twist I understand what you mean. Even though Red Heart maybe a little rougher, it also seems a little richer than how you explained the big twist. I’m with you on this. Red Heart thumbs up.
my daughter's school colors are gold/gray/black and the Big Twist gold matches it PERFECTLY! making hats for her and her friends. LOVE that it's softer. although that looser spun does lean itself to splitting more. still, using it! softness is worth it!
Hi Crystal! I've been enjoying your channel! I watched this review last night & immediately picked up the 2 Big Twists I recently bought. The color scarlet said machine wash & dry. The color wine said machine wash & dry clean or dry flat. I'm confused on this & I hope it's a typo. I've never heard of dry cleaning an acrylic yarn. I emailed Joann this morning & I'll report their response back when I hear from them. Meanwhile I'll do some swatching & testing!
I mostly use Red Heart and it does soften up very nicely after washing. It holds up well drying it in the machine. I use low heat. Nothing I've made has pilled up. I saw comments that it tends to do so, but I guess I've been lucky.
Thank you for the review. Redheart is tried and true. The dryer thing is a big deal to me, because i like to gift items that are easily washed and dried by the recipients.
Thanks for the review Crystal. I made an afghan solely with Big Twist. I actually loved it. I've not washed it yet, but all my crocheted blankets/afghans I hang over the shower rod to dry then air fluff in the dryer (no heat)
Never tired the big twist but I will stay with red heart due to Joanne is to far for me to get to when I need yarn now Walmart is very close and they carry red heart. Thank you so much for opinion I appreciate your input on yarn.
Interesting, never heard of Big twist yarn, I will be headed out yarn shopping tomorrow, I will check it out, Thank you 😄 for the wonderful video full of great information.

Thank you for the review Crystal have a blessed day😘

I never tried the big twist yarn but I do like the red heart yarn. And I like yarn you can put in the dryer. Thank you for sharing this
I haven't tried Big Twist and probably won't now. I like to be able to wash and dry in the dryer. Joann's is farther away than Walmart from me.
I love Red Heart Super Saver. Thanks for comparing.

Oh my gosh!
😟😱
Thanks for the info!
Thank you I was wondering how it would turn out if it was dried. Did it pill up after the wash?
Thank you for the info!! I had bought some this afternoon and did not know it was lay flat to dry. Gonna return them even though I got a good price plus bonus coupon.
Haven’t seen the Big Twist at my Joann’s, but as far as yarns go I’m a Red Heart fan through and through. Thank you for the review!!
Thanks Crystal I have tried the big twist I like them both.
I will always be a fan of Red heart. I do use other brands but Red heart is what I used in the beginning.
Red Heart is a better quality, easy to find and great colors. Thanks for review.
I Agree with you Crystal! The No Tumble Dry is a Big Turn off for me! I'll stick to the Red Heart Super Saver Yarns!
Someone on another channel put the big twist in a blanket thru the washer and dryer and it came out perfectly fine.
I haven't tried the Big Twist & I probably won't due to it not being tumble dryable. Thank you Crystal for your review, always very helpful.
I love red heart for blankets because I can use a sheet under it but for something to wear, I need a super soft yarn.
I love the chart on back shower how much you’d need
I saw that too and though that was very clever!
This was so helpful thank you. 💜 I sometimes feel shamed by others in the yarn community for using red heart but I honestly prefer it often.
Thanks for the review! I was wondering how this would compare, I am surprised about the “ no tumble dry” that would turn me off to it.
In Jersey our twist yarns are dryable, her label is different than mine
Yes, me too. I make so much for donation, it has to be wash and dry! I wouldn't have thought to even look at that, acrylic I'd assume wash & dryable. Very glad for this review.
I buy RH at Wal-Mart. Cheap, good quality, lots of colors. Ty for everything, Crystal.
Hi Crystal. I haven't tried it but I love red heart . I just tried premier puzzle yarn to make slippers for Christmas presents and I love it.
I am in love with the puzzle yarn too.
After watching you fondle your yarns, and squeeze them, I amused myself by doing that in my JoAnns. I did buy the big twist because it was so appealing. I have been making turkey footed baby booties in thanksgiving colors and they are adorable.

I like how you make the comparison fair. I’ve always get the Red Heart ♥️. I haven’t been to a Joann in so long. Tyvm for sharing.
Thank you for the review and comparison of Big Twist and Super Saver.
I have not tried the Big Twist yarn yet I want to one day. I started crocheting 40yrs plus and Red Heart was the first I crocheted with I love red heart. Thanks for the review Crystal.
Thank you Crystal for your honesty I appreciate it. I have Walmart near not Joanne's.
I would use the red heart unless I can get the big twist on sale then I would try it. Thanks for the beautiful review.
I love your yarn reviews and comparisons! Thank you, Crystal.
Thank you for your opinion, I'm new to crocheting and don't have a lot of experience with different types or brands of yarn.
A very fair review Crystal. Thanks for all the info on pricing and other comparisons. I am sure a lot of folk will agree with you. ❤️🧶❤️🧶❤️🧶❤️🧶
The beautiful light rose shade caught my attentionr & it was on sale so I bought it. The hats turned out beautiful, will purchase again. Thanks for your review Crystal ❤

I used The Big Twist and made your News Boy hat. I used 3 colors to make it. I love how it turned out!
Great review Crystal. I am like you, I will choose the Red Heart Supper Saver. Thank you.
Thank you for your review. I have some big twist mill ends. I have not used them in a project yet. They do seem comparable to RHSS.
I've use the Big Twist to make an afghan I liked it, but I've got tons of red heart. I don't dry any of my crochet items. I like both and will continue to buy both, depending on what I'm making
I have never used the Big Twist from Joann’s. I trust your judgement Crystal and will also stick with Red Heart.
I like how it has how many skeins it has for a project. I was going to try it, but figured next time.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts and reviews. I value your opinion.

I have tried using Big Twist and was mot impressed. A msjority of my stuff is donated,,so it needs to be washable/dry-able. Thanks for the heads up. Looks like I’ll be using Super Saver.
I'm with you Crystal! I'm a Red Heart girl! Never tried the other.
Love the new camera sooo much better bright & clear
I have used the Big Twist. It worked up just like the Red Heart. Very similar yarn. Big Twist Collection Value Worsted Yarn
$2.62 Reg. Thank you
Thank you for this review! Being Big Twist is 100% acrylic I don't think I would have checked the washing instructions. 😲
Hopefully it goes well ❤
Thanks Crystal this is very helpful I live very close to walmart and joanns its a great comparison video.
Thanks for the review. I would like to try the big twist!
I haven't seen that big twist at my JoAnns. You're right, RH Super Saver softens up quite a bit after washing, I was actually quite surprised & impressed by that.
Ty for this review we do not have AC Moore here. I like to see and touch what I am buying.
Red Heart is my go to yarn , it's what I grew up using , enjoy your day and have fun crocheting 🌻🤗 🌻
Thanks for the revue i don't go mush to joann so i work a lot with red heart
I appreciate the honest yarn reviews. I have learned so much. I have hesitated due to availability and concern for color run. Thank you.
The chart is really nice. I saw this at Joanns online and wondered about the softness.
Thank you for the review. Redheart is tried and true. The dryer thing is a big deal to me, because i like to gift items that are easily washed and dried by the recipients.
Both colors are so vibrant!
Thanks for the review Crystal. I made an afghan solely with Big Twist. I actually loved it. I've not washed it yet, but all my crocheted blankets/afghans I hang over the shower rod to dry then air fluff in the dryer (no heat)
Thnx for the reviews, we don't have any of these shops/yarns in the Netherlands.
Thank you so much for sharing, very surprised can't use in dryer. My Joann's is over an hour away.
Good to know. The ability to wash and toss it into the dryer is a plus
Haven't tried Big Twist yarn.I will have to check it out.
I noticed the big twist has a dye lot # where red heart doesn't have dye lot on the solids.
I've tried both yarns and I agree with you. I like Red Heart better, as well.
