It's what I started with when I learned to crochet, but it makes my fingertips so rough and dry after working with it for just a little while. I'm definitely going to try the Premier. Red Heart Super Saver is my favorite! They have temporarily changed the manufacturing over to Turkey, and its softer now. But I prefer the old scratchy kind lol! Nothing compares to the feel of it when it’s made into an afghan. Also, I’ve heard from friends that the Big Twist can bleed color. Something to consider.
I'm loom knitting a blanket with Big Twist currently. I have been working on crocheting a shrug with RedHeart and I Love This Yarn and my hands needed a break because of some injuries. I will also try knitting a project with my new knitting needles.

Interesting Crystal. I've used the following and my favorite to least is: JoAnns Big Twist, Hobby Lobby I love It, then Walmart brand because I buy the basic colors usually at Christmas and I go cheap...lol. I really don't see many pastel greens to dark greens or lime greens (usually a light sagey green and a dark green but that's it on greens...2 color choices and that's it ...smh),l. Same with browns.... beige to brown tones or pastel yellows to deep ochres and golds. Color choices just aren't there for autumn colors. grrrr. Blues never turn me on. They're too wimpy in color...I only like intense aquas.
I usually always buy Red Heart Super Saver because that's all I can afford but I now see the Mainstay and am going to look for it. It's a better bargain plus you said it was softer than the Super. Going to check it out, thank you Crystal. 😊

Their cone cotton is also really nice. If you ever need some. I purchased it after buying peaches and cream for a long time. What a difference! The Premier is nice and soft in a cone cotton!

I have used Big Twist Value and I really love working with it. I agree with the Red Heart 100%. Although I have looked through Premier Basix for awhile I have not tried it yet, but hopefully soon.

Red heart is my last choice also. It never really softens up. That's all we used to have in our area for many years so we had no choice. I've not tried most of your collection except hobby lobbey yarn. I've always tried to find something else. That's why I love watching you because you have really opened up the yarn world to me. Who would have thought I'd be ordering yarn from England. I'm loving it. I quilt and sew more than anything else and any handwork, tatting, needlepoint, cross stitch, embroidery, black work, bobbin lace. My grandmother and aunts taught it all to me. I definitely fall into the Fiber Artist category. Thanks for opening up my world of crochet and knitting. It got me through this covid time. Now I want to try basics..

I have to add- Red Heart Mexicali (it’s variegated)was my first alien of yarn…I was nine, and my mom was teaching me- I loved how the stitches kept changing colors, and now l want to go back to it to make one of Crystals backpacks!

My grandma taught me how to crochet with Red Heart, my mom swears that it is the best. I love the ombres they have but it hurts my hands while crocheting. I really like big twist and I love this yarn and mainstays. I really love 5wt premier puzzle but have never used the basix. Thanks Crystal, now I need to buy more yarn. 🤣

I have learned so much from you Crystal, about Yarn. I learned To crochet from my mom Way back in the late 50s and 60s. I remember it seems all of the yarn she could get to use seemed to be course, and not soft. It seems there was some soft yards but now there are so many that are so soft to work with. When I started crocheting again after a lot of years I found that I prefer the really soft yarn. I can’t seem to want to make very many things out of the not so soft yarn.

What a great video! As far as I know, I've only used red heart and big twist. I found big twist a lot softer! I used a lot of red heart for a blanket I made and it was definitely chafing my fingers. I do love the red heart ombre though such a nice color transition

Premier has some "just yarn" labeled acrylic yarn at Dollar Tree with around 130 yards. Assorted colors, lovely and so soft! Yay Premier!

Premier basix is totally my favorite value yarn!

What a great video! As far as I know, I've only used red heart and big twist. I found big twist a lot softer! I used a lot of red heart for a blanket I made and it was definitely chafing my fingers. I do love the red heart ombre though such a nice color transition
I'm with you on the number one yarn tonight, I also have a lot of the Premier Basix yarn, I do like the Red Heart for making baskets because of the stiffness. Enjoy tonight. Thanks again.
I agree with your assessment. I do love the Big twist. I like their assortment of TYPES/STYLES of yarns too. I have never ever cared for the RedHeart. Back in the 90's I wasn't a fan but that was really the only stuff around. thanks so much for your share!! I love your reviews!!

Premier is my favorite for the price, but I love the way "I love this yarn" feels to crochet with.
Red heart was my go to because I didn't know anything about yarn, but now, I've used them all but the premier, I will now look and try some soon, thank you again for sharing your fiber knowledge 😀
