    Just want to point out that these are sea lions and not seals. Seals do not have fins that allow them to move, instead they roll their bodies to allow movement out of water. They also don’t bark or sleep on top of each other like sea lions do. California has both sea lions and seals. However, they do not bask outside the water in same area.

      Seals also don't live in large colonies like sea lions, seals only congregate with other seals for breeding purposes, they pretty much live in complete solidarity and don't have ear flaps

      Wow, Lucky you I hope to go back one day but it costs a lot of money to travel from Scotland. Good luck in SF when you do move

    In San Francisco visiting. Pier 39 is empty, no sea lion on site. Someone said they are hone fue to lack of food and visitors since covid struck last year.
