When is was a child, my father and I used to go swimming on the edge of a little beach. Usually, we were alone with 2 o 3 fishermans. And one year, a seal got used to rest on this same beach. So , many times, when we were swimming, the seal came to see us in the water, and swam with us. Playing around, touching us with his nose, and even tryed to "kiss" my father! In fact he was apparently really intrested by my father's beard :D Look a seal in the eyes when diving, and playing with him in total nature, is one of the best memories of my childhood!
Maybe he smelled some snacks in there! :) Anyway, it's always heartwarming to see people respecting animals and not trying to push them to do things for our benefit. It's already worth so much to share a moment like that, and a few pictures/videos. They don't need humans, they have what they need already. But friendship and smiles are always nice!

I've surfed for 30 years and have had several encounters with seal's & sea lions that would swim up to me to investigate what I was. They would surface and exhale loudly about 2 to 3 feet away and stare at me. The babies were the most curious and the big male Stellar sea lions were intimidating. They never stayed around for long as they were busy eating fish. The mothers will put the babies on the beach and go hunt. Tourists always seemed to think the little one's needed to be rescued and ignore the posted signs telling them to not touch the sea lions. Seeing them surf down the face of a wave usually was an indicator that a bigger predator was in the water and it was time to head in. They remind me of ocean going canines.

well it's still a wild animal, they wouldn't know how to react to head pats so there is a risk they might bite you thinking you trynna attack it.
It's not at all adorable when you see inside, its sort has too much competitiveness and cruelty on what they targeted as their prey. It wasn't lovely at all to me especially when it becomes violent because of bloodlust.

It must be so hard for people to refrain from petting them when they’re this curious.
I've surfed for 30 years and have had several encounters with seal's & sea lions that would swim up to me to investigate what I was. They would surface and exhale loudly about 2 to 3 feet away and stare at me. The babies were the most curious and the big male Stellar sea lions were intimidating. They never stayed around for long as they were busy eating fish. The mothers will put the babies on the beach and go hunt. Tourists always seemed to think the little one's needed to be rescued and ignore the posted signs telling them to not touch the sea lions. Seeing them surf down the face of a wave usually was an indicator that a bigger predator was in the water and it was time to head in. They remind me of ocean going canines.
