Great video and explanation! I’m using these to rewire my Vland Santa Fe sport tail lamps. Running an additional wire to my reverse light sockets to make them and the blinker housing switchback blinkers/brake lights while rewiring the current brakes to be the running lights. I have pods mounted on my trailer hitch tied into my reverse lamp fuse with a relay. I won’t be losing my reverse light function. -Joe
Wish there was a kit like this for the 2018 rams 1500’s that have towing and regular mirrors. Only saying this due to me changing out all the halogen/incandescent bulbs to LEDs.
I made a lot of switchback modules, but instead using relay i use P-Mosfet, it will be quiet, smaller and you can use smaller capacitor :D I convert red USA blinker in tail lights to yellow EU and I have to make parts as small as possible and thats why i prefer Pmos Great vid as allways 👍
Man, you doing great job and video. May I ask you to help me to solve some problem with trailer lights? The car have old taillights but trailer have led. Somehow this combination leads to trailer lights to send input into all lamps even I switch only parking light or only turning signal. May you help me to find scheme and components to solve it? Thank you.
I’m looking to do this with my classic truck, can this set up with relay replace the turn signal switch, with the brake and turn signal feeding the same bulb?
Hi I came across this video today - very interesting too BUT no wiring diagram seen and no Capacitor size given not even on your component list at AMAZON Pls help thanks
This old school was so interesting. Ive been watching all you video. But this time . May i ask if this is possible to apply in motorcycle with 12volt battery or do i need to change the load of capacitor. Hope you will see this . Im from the Philippines. Thank you. And more power to you.
Great explanations for everything! Could you explain how to use this setup on a 2-wire 194 bulb switchback? I believe the light takes reversed polarity to operate the switching of colors.
I have question, i want to make turn signal as a parking light + blinker for that i have installed a 5 pin relay i did the same elimate the switch terminal. Now thing is when i turn on the turn signal the signal from the flasher switch the relay and the bulb turn off and when signal is off bulb lights up. Due to this issue my front head light turn signals are not sync, when fender and back turn signal is on my front head light turn signal is off. Can you please guide me how to resolve issue. Secondly on unlocking car the front turn signals dont blink as the relay gets power from the parking light and they will blink only if the parking light is on me. Any solution for this as well?
Love it So in other words, its basically a kill switch for the white leds, just like your other relay vid. And the added capacitor keeps the relay from chattering/de-energizing during the off cycle of the flasher relay. Just a correction though the diode is 1n4007 not In. Thanks Teach!
@@flyryde what i encountered in the past with the 1n4007 diodes is that they don't handle a lot of current going through i used a couple of them for a Bi-LED projector, in order to be able to flash my headlights on high beam even if the low beam is off, and the diode couldn't handle the LEDs and melted everytime, i even added more in parallel and still the same issue 🤔.
Hi FlyRyde, on a side note, i use a diode on my 4 pin relay to stop reverse current, connect the silver band of the diode to pin 86 switch 12v, and the other side of the diode the pin 85 ground
If there's power on the yellow wire, the white wire won't have power is that correct? So can I use this on a single contact led bulb? Planning to use this so that my turn signals can also function as park lights. Hope to get a response from anyone. Thanks!
Ok, I made these, they work. But I learned about how dangerous capacitors were and ive never messed with them before. I dont understand why the capacitor is necessary if you have the diode. Im eventually going to try making this without the cap to see what that does.
I figured it out. When I added the Fenix Cannon Hideaway LEDs as the front turn signals on my Trailblazer, I needed a way to have them function as both turn signals and running lights. I bought a set of converters that did this, but they are no longer available; I think this setup may work to do that instead.
Hey dude love the videos! They have been super helpful for doing retrofits on my Tacoma! I’m looking to make my running light on my taillights work as my turn signal as well because the turn signal one isn’t very noticeable. Just wondering if this relay set up will work the same if it’s not switching colours just want the running light to blink with the turn signal. Thanks
Hi there, from sunny Wales, UK. I actually made something very similar for my motorcycle. It took a couple of attempts to get it to work how i wanted it to . I wanted the white drl to just dim ( 50%) when the turn signal was on, then return to 100% when the turn signal finished. Looks really cool. Keep up the good work. 👍🏻
Hi. I have little problem. I purchased ebay switchback led bulb. It has 3 wires. Ground+DRL+flasher. When connected to car it works fine. I put extra relay with parking lights so when I turn lights on DRL goes off. All works great until I turn engine on. When DRL on all great but when DRL off flasher strobes. Should I put diode 4007 in line on DRL wire to block ground(negative at DRL signal?)
Love your vid I did buy from ebay an led strip light with switchback indicators and the switchback indicator only works when it is connected to a constant power , when i installed it in car dosen't work How do i fix it
Oh my god, if this works like I think / hope then you have made my day!! Been looking g for a way to make my side lights go off when turn signal is active. Brilliant stuff 👍🏻
I really like how organized your work area is. Looks convenient and clean. Unlike mine which is a mess haha Also thanks for showing the addition of the capacitors and 1 way diode.
Just curious, with this relay method, if there is no power to white, will the yellow still flash? Asking as if in a scenario the vehicle is off (so DRLs are off) and I throw the hazards on, will this still work? Or if my DRL signal are with headlights on only, will this still work to send the turn signal while the headlights are off?
Follow the directions here but add an additional diode. Cathodes should be facing away from each other and you’ll need to solder the blinker input to the anodes of the diodes. The addition diodes cathode needs to then be connected to the wire on the middle pin. The relay will work the same cutting off the constant power of the light but the additional diode will send the signal to the now dormant wire.
Question on a 5 Pin y can't we run the white to center pin since it gets power with the relay off the run the amber on the out put side with the flasher on the trigger side

Already made one and tested working. Haven't instilled it yet just waiting for plug and play connectors. Just add two diodes, one from marker and one from blinker.
Let’s say I have a led (has only power and ground), I want switchback to work for that same led. Is that even possible? I mean the led is turned on as a DRL and when flasher is activated, it flashes, then back to DRL when off.
HI THERE, I'M HOPING YOU MAY BE ABLE TO HELP WITH A FEW THINGS, I'M LOOKING TO MAKE A SET OF SWITCHBACK DRL/TURN SIGNALS FOR MY 350Z FRONT BUMPER REFLECTORS, MY PLAN WAS TO USE TWO SETS OF LED STRIP LIGHTS (1 WHITE 1 AMBER) AND USE A SWITCHBACK TO TURN OFF THE DRL'S WHEN THE TURN SIGNALS ARE ON. WOULD THIS WORK TWO SETS OF STRIP LIGHTS INTO ONE MODULE? OR DOES THIS ONLY WORK WITH WHITE AND AMBER LED'S THAT ARE BUILT INTO ONE STRIP?? THANKS IN ADVANCE
Say I were to connect the white and yellow outputs together (maybe with a diode to stop them feeding each other) could I make a Ford style combined brake/turn signal?
Couldn't you connect the white/parking light lights to pin 87 on a 5 pin relay, and then pin 87a to a flasher relay which is then connected to the amber turn signal lights.
I was wondering how am I going to stop the turn signal from interfering with daytime running lights in my shroud, thanks for the video. Do you sell sequential drivers?
Hello :) Great video !! Can I use this on a single bulb ? Particularly on a regular 21w turn signal bulb so it can be on as drl and when turn signal is on it can act as turn signal and then get back to it's drl mode. Thanks!!!
Are you done with your project and did it last long? Made the module already and made it work by adding two diodes, one from the pulsing and one from the steady. Haven't installed it yet on the car since I'm still waiting for some connectors for it to be plug and play.
Has anyone made it and not need a load resistor for it.. I have a similar setup but with a pcb 12v relay.. I've located my side marker lights and turn signal lights the prob is when I have my headlights on and activate the turn signal it doesn't blink but if I turn off my headlights it works ? I know I'm missing something to this and if this can work on a gtr I sure can make it work on my ford .. thanks any advice given. Also will u need a flasher relay to go along with this aswell?
Would this work if both the running light wire and the turn signal wire were hooked up to the same output? (Amber running light with the same amber LEDs but flashing for turn signals)
If the lights you’re talking about only have one input, use two rectifier diodes on the circuit. One directing power to the relay/capacitor and one facing toward the lights. Tap the blinker input between the diodes and the running light past both diodes closer to the lights, away from the relay. This will prevent the running lights power from flowing back and triggering the relay while still allowing the relay to work as designed.
I’m looking back at this and thinking, is the pin that you remove still usable if not removed? I want my rear blinkers to blink but running lights to blink between the blinkers flashes. The lights all run on the same circuit and I don’t want to overpower and blow out the lights. The blinker lights will be brighter than the running lights. Not 100% how to achieve this for my application. Any advice would be awesome 😊 -Joe
If you used the pin I removed, you'd just have to do so knowing that whatever it powers, will not blink, it'll just stay solid. BMW has something like this for a "turning light" that only comes on when you turning, and turns off after. If you're turning left for example, a little lamp will turn on and throw light out to the left side of the car so you can see better in the direction you're turning, since the headlights aren't already pointed that direction. The switchback module could turn on something like that, which will only ever be on during turn signals, but again, its not flashing like the turn signal, its just staying on consistently, then turns off when the signal stops. Make sense? Sounds like another good video idea :)
Trying to set up a switchback for an SC430 to use both DRL and Turns, but the DRL is also high beam. This seems common on Lexus. Any advice / experience with this?
Cut the highbeam / DRL 12+ send the vehicle side to 86, and the bulbs side to 87, with power and ground to 30/85 DRL won’t turn on, but highbeam will still turn on.
I'm pretty sure that, if the light turns off by default on the factory setup, it's being done to make the turn signal visible. I've seen this on some cars with LED headlights that have the amber turn signal mounted very close to the headlights.
Use a 5 pin relay. 30 to the turn signal constant source (ie parking light +) 85 ground. 86 to the flash relay output. 78a to turn signal + and 78 is not used. Will need one relay wired to each light.
what about the clicking relay sound? do switchback modules have less sound? also you didn't mention about how long between turning the turn signal off and having the white light come back on, is it faster with switchback modules? these are just two questions that come to mind watching your great vid.
I'm watching this video still.. but just seeing you say the relay is bulky.. a more smaller packaged idea would look into using transistors or Mosfets.. the circuit will be pretty much similar but will be alot smaller packaged and lower profile and probably better efficiency..
I’ve seen several people in here saying you can do this with a P-mosfet instead of a relay, but does anybody have a wiring diagram or a “how-to” video demonstrating it?
Yo, bro! I need an answer, stat! (kidding, lol). I was on your main page looking for the vid on removing light shells (and I think re-installing/gluing, etc), but I can't find. that would just make the white lights come one when the amber turns off, you don't want that, you want white to stay off when the amber blinks

I see other comments about that also. P-Mosfet sounds like the solution for reducing relay clicking sounds.
@@nzhome101 also the delay of the white light comming on is created with the capacitor, bigger capacitor, bigger delay I believe
I'm watching this video still.. but just seeing you say the relay is bulky.. a more smaller packaged idea would look into using transistors or Mosfets.. the circuit will be pretty much similar but will be alot smaller packaged and lower profile and probably better efficiency..
Can this be used to turn after market fog lights on and off when I use my high beams?
Just use a switch relay or normally closed/open relay
is there a way to make this work if you don’t have the switchback wire coming from the light itself
You need to have a trigger input from your flasher loom
Awesome work man. Thanks👍👍
Awesome! Never would have thought about this!
I’ve seen several people in here saying you can do this with a P-mosfet instead of a relay, but does anybody have a wiring diagram or a “how-to” video demonstrating it?
I swear I just had this issue… now I am going to re wire everything. Again!!! Thanks for the video!
Yo, bro! I need an answer, stat! (kidding, lol). I was on your main page looking for the vid on removing light shells (and I think re-installing/gluing, etc), but I can't find. Can you provide a link, and if I can pick your brain here regarding, what's the safest, most effective way (tools, etc) for removing the headlight shell on a 17 Maxima? (for my future DIY module/DRL light mods). Great channel! Thanks! =).
You so awesome bro... I take some tip from you for my truck thank you so much
Will this work with rock lights?
I’m trying to get amber and white rock lights and make them swotchback
How if my led stripes are common positive instead of common ground?
I would like 2 know as well
I love your wire stripper!
Great video - easy to follow and understand!! I will be making some of these - not because I need them right now, but I might do in the future!!! :D Thanks for the content.....
Omg hey girllll 🍻 thank ya thank ya 💪
You forgot to link the video of cool things to do with relays in the description! 😅
Thanks!!! Fixed that just now 🙏
@@flyryde how did you reseal the Cayenne headlights that you cut open. There is no video for that. Please share.
thats very handy good job
I totally love the videos. But I need some help with what I'm doing. I look forward to hopefully hearing back from you. Thank you for the great videos and the content. Help!
