Yes, it was worth testing the native Garmin data in the “Bermuda triangle”. Well done! I agree that the 1030+ ought to get the ClimbPro update as I paid good money for mine only a year ago!

Glad you voiced publicly what 1030 Plus owners have been saying - Garmin have taken a big 💩 on customers who have spent a lot of money on previous gen devices that are still more than capable of taking the ClimbPro and OS updates.

With the 1040 Solar now retailing at just USD 20.00 more than the Edge 840, it's a matter of desired screen size and available button. I have to say the Climb Peo update for the 1040 is pretty convoluted.
Thanks for the spin in the forest Shane.

Another informative video. Looking at pricing in the UK and you can get the 1040 solar for only £70 more than the 840 solar. That's a smaller difference than between the 1030 and 830 a few years ago. Once climbpro anywhere is in full release on 1040 rather than beta then the 1040 solar looks like a better buy.
Nice to see you testing out in the forest. Looking outside here and it's windy, cold and raining like a monsoon. Back to Zwift then for today here.

You can find the 1040 Solar even cheaper than that. Many places selling 1040 Solar just 10-20€ more than the 840 Solar. Also several places selling the non-solar 1040 actually cheaper than the non-solar 840.

Might have just been me but I couldn't change the 2 data fields on 1040. I had to change them using the app. Also, it's not necessary to delete your map if there is a map update available. They have outlines it in their beta program posts: forums.garmin.com/beta-program/edge-1040-series/f/announcements/330004/edge-1040-series-public-beta-17-09---live-important-note-in-change-log

I am honestly considering moving to Wahoo. I am just sick and tired of Garmin never adding features to “old” devices ( 1030 and 1030+ ). They claim those devices do not have the power to free ride climbers pro but somehow they can free ride sharp corner warning? BS.

Garmin: "Here's a new feature - that requires accurate grade representation - that the 1040 doesn't currently have!" 😅

Imhe that gradient display is non-intuitive and somewhat useless. I understand as gradient % decreases the display shows a down slope. But the rider is still going UP the hill, not down. So rather than see a downslope, I'd rather see the climb presented as it is on Veloviewer (and all other course analysis software.) So if I were to design this, the climb presented would show the contour of the hill, not the gradient. Especially since color is used to represent the latter anyway.

You need to copyright that anywhere, anytime

I'm sure I'll be served with legal documents from Germany for using that term at some random point in the future. I'm rightly screwed if the Wahoo Summit update includes chevrons in any form. 🤣

No reason to buy the new 840… 1040 is around the same price. Lol

The gradient lag issue is huge. Never mind climbpro. 1030 was fine, 1030+ and the 1040 are rubbish. They know it but wont fix it. Beta versions are no better. Garmin will take a hit on customer loyalty. i’m amazed you and DCRainmaker have not escalated this. Very odd. Those of us that live in hilly areas have been ripped off by garmin.
