I love looking at old subway cars and stations. The stations then featured signs that seemed more cool. Now all of the signs look alike and the trains all look alike too. I was not a big fan of graffiti but other than that, I liked the way it was back in the 1970's.
These trains are known as the R40 slant nose and the 40m's (modified) and probably some R-42's in there too. Most of these pictures were taken the late 60's when they first came out through the 70's. To me they look so much better with the big letters(route signs) and blue stripes(and even some of the graffiti). They look so boring now.
I really think that the MTA SHOULD make the Letter in front BIG so that it's visible to the riders in the station. They're too small at the moment. The big letter to me in the subway emphasizes presence. Make it the appropriate color to pay homage to the historical colors of each line but illuminate them in white bordering so it's easy to see.. I dunno just sayin...
