Harold Beauchamp Take a look at the link in the video notes. Lots of photos on the site I linked to. Ultimately I refilled down through the vent hose. Also take a look here. www.explorerforum.com/forums/index.php?threads/ptu-oil-change-tons-of-pics-2016-explorer-sport.462691
Bryan Jackson I couldn’t get the factory vent hose off and tried to refill using the factory hose. It leaked everywhere and made a mess. I ultimately ended up refilling through the drain hole. Pumped about 18 oz in and lost about 2 oz before I was able to put the drain plug back on. Awesome video, I utilized your duct tape idea and it worked flawlessly.
Jon Jonez Thank you for reaching out and letting me know. I will update the link. Meanwhile, here is the latest thread. www.explorerforum.com/forums/threads/ptu-oil-change-tons-of-pics-2016-explorer-sport.462691/
Ford Guy - Stephen the fill plug has very little space and is extremely tight. I couldn’t budge it. Took it to the dealer for the oil change thinking they could break it free and I could do the next one and I still can’t budge it. The black pipe in the way doesn’t help either. It’s a 2.0 ecoboost BTW. Could the dealer have done the service without removing the fill plug?
Hey did your sport come with any skid guard or any kind of shield for the undercarriage? Sorry I know this isn't relevant to ur vid. Just wondering though. I recently took a look under my 17 sport and was suprised to see no protection underneath
Published primarily to demonstrate a methodology to control the oil drainage. Nice to not get gear oil everywhere.. At how many miles did you do this and had it been done prior to you changing it? At 20k on my 17 Fusion sport and considering doing it now. My wife’s ptu failed somewhere in the 50k area on her 15 edge titanium.
In the notes above on the video I share there were 16,521 miles on it at that time. You need the do it NOW and redo it every 30,000 miles thereafter. Here’s another great thread with more context around the video: www.explorerforum.com/forums/index.php?threads/ptu-oil-change-tons-of-pics-2016-explorer-sport.462691/
Bryan Jackson yeah. That’s what I expected. I was thinking change it now then every 10k to be on the safe side. Rather spend the extra money on gear oil then on a new ptu. I was thinking mobil1 full synthetic...
10k change is not necessary. The Motorcraft gear oil is full synthetic and great quality I recommend sticking with that. If there is a PTU failure, it can’t be blamed on your lubricant choice.
That funnel is for the turbo cooling duct.
How did you refill it? My 17 has a temperature sensor in lieu of a fill hole.

Harold Beauchamp glad you got it done! Sounds like an ordeal though!
Is there a drain plug?
The pics in the thread are dead. Any chance you could put the pics back?

Do all 2016 Edge models have a drain plug in the ptu?
Bud that one I dont know. Pull'er up on ramps and you'd be able to see it if it did.
yes they should

Joe Fery I’m really not sure. Can your dealer do the ptu service for you or you a diy guy
@@TheNuclear3 get a tank of map gas and heat around the plug up alittle . That should help it come loose.

No real shield to speak of stock on these.. Glad the vid helped!
Not under my 2016 xlt 4wd. What they did was put it above the K frame and the exhaust below the K frame. Almost better to drop the Y pipe for room.

Hi buddy about how much did you got out from the ptu?
Typically around 13 ounces.
