Ebike Hub Teardown - Bafang G0F0.750.DC06 - Friend Bike Chassis

So I apparently found the noise issue. The planetary gears sound like they are shot. And it’s actually the clutch. It is super gritty and stutters When turned by hand. The part number is, BF RM-G060 750D. I’ve seen it available on Amazon, eBay, and Ali express. Get the one that matches the one you see in the video. No apologies in the long video it took me a little while to work through all ...

My Ebike motor become more noisy than I like. I’m trying to troubleshoot why. First step was to test the hall sensors. Looks like they’re OK. Installation of front and rear fenders on the Friend bike. Fairly straightforward, remember to use washers with the bolts. On the front tire ensure you have a washer on the front and back between the sandwiched tabs.

Anyone know what size and thickness this thrust bearing washer is? And where can I buy it? Lost mine
Did I miss something? Or was there no clipping when you were doing your sweep? Edit: I just realized this was from seven years ago lol. But hey! If you see this, I would like to know…
@@lkwdryan No clipping, signal was cleaner than I thought it would be. I dont have the vehicle anymore but enjoyed that system. That JBL MS8 was magic. There some other scopes I did in my channel if interested.
That washer does cause noise I have a bafang motor and was driven crazy by noise I accidentally forgot to put that ring back and boom the noise was gone.
Hi srltill have friend ebike? I have 2. I think 1 has a bad hall senser. Going to check this week
Still have it, not had any issues (yet)!
Fuck yeah!!! Fucking fish!!! I FUCKING LOVE FISHING!
Do the Motors always come out the gear side not the side where the brake disc is
Would a bad Hall Sensor cause studdering from a start?
Definitely dont toss that washer, its a plain thrust bearing, its there to protect the motor from any side-side force
Anyone know what size and thickness this thrust bearing washer is? And where can I buy it? Lost mine
gear or clutch...
Interesting, I've greased up the gears because I was getting the same noise. Had an issue when I put it back though. I think I'm missing the washer you talked about
I have. Same noise problem on my. Scrambler juiced bike please. Help
the key is not magnetic..
You’re correct but too late to change the video. Felt like it when I popped it out, but realized later.
3:58 try greasing planetary gears
Watched your Munson Island adventure exactly 10 years after this video was shot! Time flies!
Sure does! Have a happy 2024!
I wonder if a 1000W motor will fit in that hub.
My ebike is noisy only sometimes, but other times not noisy... But if I let off the throttle and reapply some times it goes away, sometimes it very loud. I took it apart didn't see anything wrong. SO I ordered one way clutch and nylon gears, also ordered a tire and tube because it was bald and flat. I re-assembled the motor, just waiting on a new tire that should be here tomorrow. I hope this fixes it.
Replace the gears with steel. You also need grease for the gears to clear the clicking sound.
Do you have a link to purchase these gears , thanks
bafang one of the most expensive and planetary gears are in plastic ! wow now i m sure i ll never buy any of their products at all
All hub motors use nylon gears and thats totally fine.
I'm upgrading mine to steel gears.
Yeah but i meant given the price they should've been made in steel in the factory
Side note: it's amazing how many more motor teardown video's hit TH-cam since I put this out. I'm so glad there is more info available now. It's good for everyone.
I know this video is 2 years old, but I had the same problem recently. My rear wheels axle was bent by just a little, and it caused the motor to hit the magnet and cause damage. Everything else in the rear wheel was perfect. I wish they sold replacement axles for ebikes or reinforced axles. I usually buy reinforced axles for my normal bicycles.
@@Just_Randomi Just saw this. Thanks for adding to the info!
Following up on this. I haven't replace the gears yet. I have them just haven't put them in. Next couple weeks I should be able to do it and will to an update video. Thank you to all that responded and found the video helpful.
what size and thickness is the thrust bearing washer btwn gear and hub at 0:44? Did you ever figure out the reason to the rattling sound?
Where the grease, replace the gears and clean big metal gear and put in blue aviation grease, your gears will love you.
Sounds totally normal.
@bjackson1975 14 seconds ago (edited) It didnt sound like that for about a year and then it did. The roar you hear in the video did not occur when it was new.
All throughout my early days of r/c cars, we always upgraded the nylon gears to metal, regardless of the extra noise. We did this for reliability. We reassembled with good grease and the motors and transmissions were rock-solid and happy over several race seasons. This coming winter will be my 5th riding season on my Bafang 750 fat ebike motor and I'm going to replace the planetaries with metal gears that I already purchased last year. The whole point is that my 70 pound fat bike is not gonna get pushed home 20 miles because the planetary nylon gears failed like all the RC cars that we used to run. I'm not pushing that pig home! I know it will be noisier, but on my bike local path that may be a good thing. Also, you can get copper gears as well as steel. Not sure what the difference in sound or longevity is. If I'm successful, I'm going to put together kits along with the security bit in grease for the Bafang 060.
They're not gonna shred like that you will have warning
@@steveshea7725 So, I assume you'd come get me if they do shred? I just can't take the chance as I have no way to get my bike home otherwise as it doesn't fit in our cars.
@@guitartec Yeah mine shredded new heybike explore in less than 200miles from new and I had a trailer I could haul it back home at least I had my wife with me so I took her heybike ranger to get the trailer or I'd been screwed.. You can't even pedal when the gears go or push because the wheel was locked...
@@22YZ450FX They sell brass planetary gears now. I never did instal the steel gears I have just b/c everyone says the nylon gets noisy as the teeth break, so you can probably get to where you're going before complete failure.
Sounds totally normal for this motor. They all make this sound.
It didnt for about a year and then it did. The roar you hear in the video did not occur when it was new.
i took this motor apart exhausted and literally forget how the two lockrings go on. lol
Cellphone photos are your friend, and laying out parts in order of removal.
grease the hell out of it and stick it back together
Couldn't they drive the outer black shell directly, instead of going through the planetary gears? 🤔
how to fix this problem?
@4:46 what type of grease/lube would you use on planetary gears?
In this case it’s a white lithium grease suited for the plastic gears.
@@bjackson1975 thank you
Clean all the old grease out with a rag and grease with full synthetic aviation grease that's safe for nylon.
@@steveshea7725 thanks, I hear Mobil 28 or molykote 44
Motore fuse short
I have a bike with a bafang M155, it's a 750W motor. The motor is the opposite orientation where the cable comes out the brake side rather than the standard cassette side. To get the motor out I have to get the main planetary ring gear out of the hub. I've tried pullers with no success. How do you get that main ring gear out?
This is awesome
Glad it was helpful!
Each gear has bearings, each bearing has needle rollers, in one of the bearings one or more needle roller has worn a flat spot on it, that's what's your hearing, if it seized, locks up, and it will sooner than later, then the race will turn around the shaft ruining the shaft so Right now it might only be the cost of the gear. It's usually the nylon teeth that wears out first.
No it won't. The gears are plastic/nylon. If the bearing seizes the plastic teeth will just eat itself and that's it. It's not going to ruin the shaft. You're trying to apply automotive knowledge to cheap plastic planetary gears made in china.
Did you solve the clicking
What’s the best grease and brand to use? White lithium? Thanks
That’s what everybody’s using. A thick white lithium trailer hitch grease might be a decent option as well.
Full.synthetic nylon safe aviation grease
There's barely any grease in there
it's very dry it Suppose to be Completly Saturated with Grease to protect the Teeth anything with moving parts should have lots of Grease
Great video. I used it to run a 4 AWG wire and it worked perfect. I got in and out quickly and now want to run a 0 AWG wire. What are your thoughts on me using the 4 AWG wire to pull thru a 0 AWG wire. Any chance? Thanks.
A whole lot of work just to get a wire thru the firewall. Oh for the days gone by when it was easy to get a wire thru the firewall. I wonder if getting a wire thru beside the steering column would work....
May be another way on other models. This was what I had to do on this year/model. Best of luck.
@@bjackson1975 I ended up drilling a hole in the floorboard on the driver side next to a cable that passes through the floorboard putting a grommet in and passing my wire through the grommet
My Bafang 8fun does knor knor knor just like a hungry pig looking for food. I think its are the bearings ? Have 13000 km's on the road.
Think I will just drill another hole in a spot easier to get to, then put a rubber plug in it.
Always an option. Just be careful some spots are double firewall and I’m not sure if there are any lines or cabling in between.
Plastic?
yeap the planetary gears are usually plastic
Too complicated. Better use one under the carpet on the driver's side.
Thanks for the helpful reply.
5:27 "What's that clickin' noise?" Thanks for posting! Did the new bearings cancel the noise?
Thanks for posting this I just bought 10 bikes with this motor...good to know its serviceable.
do you know what's different about a 20" bafang hub motor vs. a 26"? are the planatery gears different or do they just go slower due to wheel size? I'm only on my 4th ebike, wanting to do something radical w schwinn i put a 500w on front.... thinking about running dual motors with one gear'd higher(overdrive when the rear is spun out)), that 20" 750w upgrade I see going in those fat wheels looks just like mine🤔
@@autojohn-pu1vf The winding can be done differently in manufacturing to affect the torque and top speed characteristics. so likely a 26" motor/wheel assy will be wound a bit differently - you can decipher these with the motor codes stamped on the motor. sorry i cant give you specifics... but in essence you need to do your homework on which motor and with what winding, not just wheel size.
@@rickc2222 I figured there was something like that, TY👍
