  • Will installing an H-pipe help the exhaust note of my 1986 Chevy Suburban with a 454? The engine is basically all stock minus headers and full exhaust. Watch a short version of a cold start comparison video here, • Cold Start Big Block C... . Links below for the products used on the truck. Thanks for watching.

    I had an x-pipe on my LS vehicle and I wanted to see what a h-pipe would sound like so I made my own. Before I welded the h-pipe in I tried just plain dual pipes like you had. The dual pipes were a hot mess, the engine lost power and it sounded awful. The h-pipe sounded great, and gave me that old school V8 noise I was missing. But, in the end, I put the x-pipe back on because I like high revs and it just feels smoother overall.

    I still don’t know why to this day H-pipes are not as popular as X-pipes. I installed an H-pipe on my 2019 Tundra and it got louder and deeper. X- pipes are quieter in the lower RPM’s but get louder and raspier at higher rpm’s. But if you’re after a deeper tone get an H-pipe. Your vehicle sounds wicked by the way :)

    • @ChallengeTheBuild

      Appreciate the feedback, thanks... This is the first time I've run any kind of H/X pipe... And I am definitely a believer in the H-pipe now... While in the video you can hear a difference, obviously my audio wasnt the greatest (I tried). The video doesn't do it the justice it deserves..😁😎👍

      Just not true at all ppl run x pipes bc they sound better, sound like higher rpm, and clean up raspiness vs add, if anything a h pipe especially on v8s makes gutteral raspy noise not high pitch x pipe perfection

      @herkloader34 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @Grass_roots_auto you're totally wrong and full of shit. X-pipes on most V8s create a higher pitch sound, more resonance, and raspier compared to H-pipes. Instead of your opinion, post facts.

    Great job, looks clean! Sounds pretty sweet. Like the pops when you let it go :) I do prefer a dual setup like an H-Pipe after the mid mufflers but an X-pipe right after the cats.

    Ive noticed that when you run tailpipes, you get that raspiness. They're almost like megaphones. Mufflers that are turned down have less of that popping. I like crossovers and at times resonators to tone down the excess noise. Thank You for playing the music of our people😁

    • @ChallengeTheBuild

    Yeah you need to change to magnaflow has a lower frequency sound than the flow master that why you have that high end clatter still

    • @ChallengeTheBuild
      @ChallengeTheBuild  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      These are cheap knock off Flowmasters, a real flowmaster probably would sound better. Overall I am very pleased with the sound and the H-Pipe DEFINITELY helped with the upper rpm chatter (it's not perfect but better). I'd rather change the camshaft 😂😂 and at some point I plan to...

  • @AllSoWavyReese
    @AllSoWavyReese ปีที่แล้ว +3

    So did u regain back pressure? Or does it still chatter. And with the h pipe do it still idle the same

    • @ChallengeTheBuild
      @ChallengeTheBuild  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Idle is a little smoother and deeper in tone, chatter is gone in the higher rpms (still loud just no chatter) and I assume I regained a little back pressure. Overall for this specific application the H-pipe was a HUGE success!

    • @fish_R_stinky69

    Well that’s settles It, I’m putting an H Pipe on my 78 bronco. Big block, Cam, headers and dual 2.25 exhaust is choppy as ever. Basically only sounds good at idle. I’ll just up to dual 2.5 with an H pipe instead

    • @ChallengeTheBuild
      @ChallengeTheBuild  ปีที่แล้ว +2
