      I think that’s because of the valves. The valves on bmws don’t fully open until exceeding a certain speed or rpm but you can get around with an exhaust module.

    Running an X-pipe on a n/a V8 has gains because of the scavenging effect and will also def. help improve sound as well as a slight boost in power... I've tested it with and w/o x-pipe on one of my cars which is a 4.2L V8 Audi which still has cat-less downpipes + magna flow x-pipe + custom 2.5" piping w/ resonators deleted + aftermarket mufflers vs same setup w/o x-pipe and the difference in power especially in the mid range was significant enough for me to go back to running the x-pipe

  • @NaTe-Von

    Would love to see more videos like this as it's something I've spent a long time researching. I have an F15 x5 50i and recently removed the resonators and added an X-Pipe. It made the N63TU sound a lot more "exotic" in a way, not to dissimilar to the mid rev tones I can hear from this S63. Next step is to remove the rear suitcase muffler and either run a "turbo" muffler or just a vibrant ultra quiet resonator style muffler for a touch more volume.

    • @ZeroTo60Tube
      @ZeroTo60Tube  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have to say we are pretty confident the worst part about this sistem is the small resonators. If it was my car, i would be getting rid of the stock downpipes first and maybe even put a stock rear muffler back on.

      @@ZeroTo60Tube Yeah the lack of baffling would definitely be the cause of a majority of the drone/buzzing, especially without the banks being crossed over. Megan racing rear muffler would probably be a nice sporty middle ground

    I have a LS Commodore with an x-pipe and I made my own h-pipe (amateur welder) and during making it, i tried it with just dual pipes like this BMW had and it was horrible. It droned like crazy and lost so much power. The h-pipe i made sounded awesome at low revs, gave it a proper old school roar but i eventually put the x-pipe back in. It just sounds better at high revs. Either way, you definitely need a cross over pipe.

    From what I've seen so far I think I'm gonna go with downpipes & a X-pipe with stock rear muffler on my X6M that should sound TUFF! 😤 my brothers got X6M as well & the drone is caused by that rear muffler setup. He put a Fabspeed rear muffler on it which is basically the same as the custom job. Caused it to drone at highway speeds.

    Huge difference in sound, it doesn't sound like a shopping trolley anymore! and I'd imagine the scavenging effect has made a noticeable improvement in throttle response particularly down low.
    In saying that, I do have two questions. 1: have you noticed any changes in the turbine behaviour with the X pipe, and 2: do you think it would warrant PCM tuning on account of the scavenging effect?

    a turbo acts like a silencer for the exhaust system , why they put a big muffler and resonator on it as well from factory i don't know, the less bends and a straight through system is all it's needed , putting a x pipe or balance pipe is meant to add to the scavenger effect from the pulse coursed buy the exhaust leaving the Piston , but on turbo engine you don't need anything but a straight out exhaust, twin 3 no resonator or muffler.

    Sorry Guys but you have to understand, WHY these M-Models with Crossplane V8s doesn't sound like those Types of Engines. To feed the two Turbos with as constantly even pulsing Exhaust Gas as possible (to spin up quicker), all the 4.4 V8 BiTurbo from M-Division (namely the S63) has Exhaust Manifolds which collects 4 even firing Cylinders across the 2 Cylinder Banks (possible by the Fact, that the Exhausts are on the opposite Side of each Bank in the Hot V). Completely different to the same Engine with less Power in the 50i Models (N63 Engine), where each Manifold gets Gases from the 4 uneven firing Cylinders of each Cylinder Bank. To add a Cross Pipe to a S63 Engine just for the Sound is senseless. X-Pipes normally are mixing uneven fired Cylinder Pulses of each Cylinder Bank to mix there Sound and to interference it and double the Pulses. In an Exhaust, where even fired Cylinders are already collected, it makes nearly no Difference. And that's exactly what you hear in your Video. I can't hearing any Difference between bevor and after. If you want really good Sound from a Crossplane V8 with an X-Pipe from Stock, you have to do, what I did 5 Years ago: Buy a Maserati GranTurismo. That's X-Piping on a whole different Level:

    Do us S63B44 owners a favor and throw in a split side manifold in the same style as the N63 has and see what happens, then you will get the real V8 sound, probably you will give up some of the early torque, 1500rpm vs 1750 but I have no idea what the end result on power will be.
    power cant be that much different, as Mercedes and Porsche (all VAG) use the split side manifold style on their hot V8's and they all sound like proper V8 cars.
    My 2011 X5M really is only missing the true V8 sound which the 50i has
    I am thinking about buying an used X5M manifold and chopping it up to split the sides
    Dont care about the marginal power loss, I want it to burble like a true V8

    Now have him do a crossover H pipe 8-12 inches front of the X (yes, both) and tell me it don't sound even better.

      What is the theory on dual x pipes?

    • @beeswaxx3.8
      @beeswaxx3.8 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ZeroTo60Tube Not dual X! just adding an H crossover pipe in front of the X at the mid section will give it a little burble sound. Most Maseratis come with inline H & X pipes with a resonator in between at the mid section. There are aftermarket dual Xs and dual Hs for mid sections, but nothing available with both combined.

    I don't like welding the top of an exhaust pipe while it's still on the vehicle. It's such a pain in the ass, a beautiful weld on the bottom and the top looks like a kid was trying to learn how to weld by himself...lmfao.

    Personally those cats would don't do the engine any favors at all. But the X pipe makes it sound Right in the burble or rumble as it pulses. IMHO.

  • @baims8367
    @baims8367 ปีที่แล้ว

    those mufflers are wack to on it. I run a 1o series flow master dual in dual out. and u wanna talk about v8 sound. !! id get rid of the mufflers on this thing and do a single muffler Dual in/out!! valve seals on deck I see

      Can you honestly not tell the difference? It does help if you have headphones, not listen on your phone. Easiest way to tell is on decel. Huge difference.

  • @95Sn95

    That is the worst sounding V8 I've ever heard, I'm assuming it has a flat plane crank, if it doesn't im baffled why it sounds like that. Even so it's a crummy sounding V8, noticably better with the x pipe but still awful.
