Isn;t there a fire hazard with the stove and chimney running thru the branches without any safety measures? Just wondering....
@@andyfee6125 it’s definitely something you need to keep eye but for the most part it’s not an issue. The entire structure was built with live green wood, which is quite difficult to ignite and would require more radiant heat than what the stove is capable of producing, in its current set up. Most of the heat radiates from the base of woodstove, and not so much from the chimney, especially the upper part that’s going through the shelter. The upper stove pipe is actually warm to the touch and will not burn your skin. For a long-term shelter I would’ve built something completely different. This is a quick wick up which works well for my intended use.
In the late 50"s my Dad and I were hunting near little Goose Creek in the Big Horn Mts, Wyoming when we were hit by a sudden storm with about 2.5 feet of snow. My Dad was a survivor of WWII and a great guy. We got under a blue spruce and he made a small fire which kept us warm since the snow made a blanket covering the tree. We stayed there 2 days, we had water and snacks and we were able to walk out after the wind abated.
Blue spruce are some of the best trees to find shelter under. They are so thick and usually are dry underneath even in rain. I have 5 on my property and they've always been dry in winter or rain

That sounds awesome! While I was watching this I was thinking that I would make a shelter under one of the trees 🙌💖
Such a great adventure! Thank you for sharing!❤️
God gave you that day to be remembered for the rest of your life and your father got to spend a day with one of the people he loved most in life. Sounds like a wonderful couple of days. 😊
At some point, somebody will stumble on your shelter and be convinced he discovered a Sasquatch structure 🙂
Absolutely fantastic! If it were me I’d collect the heaps and heaps of branches he cut off and layer them around the base of the tree house. Obviously you can’t make it weather tight, but you could put a few more layers between you and the snow.
I love these videos and I'm just a mom who stays at home taking care of the kids while my husband is out on the road trucking. Makes me feel like I'm out on an adventure. Be safe 😊
"Just a mom" that's the most important job in the world. Remember old saying "hand the rocks the cradle rules the world." I like you enjoy these videos but he's out having fun while you are home raising the next generation.
That is awesome!
@@wyndwalkerranger7421 thank you. This message really touched my heart ❤️. I'm raising the next generation to love the Lord 🙏

34:18 - just an absolutely beautiful view of the nighttime sky!!!
I'd have to go to your country to be able to do this - in Sweden you're not allowed to cut down trees like that.. unless it was a life and death situation...
@@lolcatz88we will make more….
This is life & death
@@duke3196 not really, this is for content.
That's exactly what I was thinking. In canada, or at least where I am, you can't do that.
In Austria you are not allowed to sleep in the forest 🥺 nor to cut wood.
Thank you so much for sharing the stars!!!❤
Отапливать дырявый шалаш печкой, просто гениальная идея.
Главное столько ёлок загубить. -33, а снег даже не хрустит))) Видать, в машине переночевал, либо дом где-то рядом. А утром прибежал доснимать "шедевр"

No pine trees were harmed in the filming of this video 😢😮😅

Always loved the tipi design for a good and fast bushcraft shelter. A tip for standing up such long primary poles alone is to have the middle pole sticking back in the opposite direction on the ground when you tie them togther. Then when you walk up the other two, that third one will drag along behind you, propping the others as you go when you need a rest or when setting the two poles' ends apart. Plus, this will serve to further tighten the wrapping/frapping of the rope tie, as the third pole rotates through its over-90 degrees of arc.
I don't understand pine needles and branches under the stove though?
@@tdog4240 I'm not following the question?
@billparrish4385 I was just wondering why the branches were put under the stove? Safety wise, I was thinking you'd need to clear it and just have it dirt. Thinking of sparking as you put wood in an? Is it safe sitting on the branches is where my question was going. Sincere question.
What an EPIC START FOR YOUR RETURN!
It truly such hard work just to build your teepee shelter.
All l can say is welcome back and we will continue to be amazed at your capabilities to survive in the wild.
loved this vidio what awesome scenary thanks for sharing
Lol...one of the more sorted campers on youtube....no dramas or stupidity. Love the almost professional youtube bushcrafters who forget their gloves[or refuse to wear their one and only pair in case they get wet and complain that their hands are freezing and almost unusable] or get clothing soaked as they ruck in or let their unprotected sleeping bag get soaked in the pack.
You are a true legend!! 👍👍👍👍👋👋👋👋
Now that look extremely cold and cozy too. lol xoxo good times!
That's a amazing Tree tipi shelter it looks cosy in there thanks for sharing awesome video cheers you and Vivian take care 😊😊
Thank you! You too!
A-1. Thank you and may you and yours have a joyous Merry Christmas.
Great Job Testing Your Skills Dave, Much Enjoyed This ! Hi Vivian ! ATB T God Bless
I enjoyed watching this, Thank you!
camping inside a big Christmas tree!
thats an awefull lot of trees for one night!
Yea like ain't a lot more around to cut down 😅😅😅😅😅
Not the point!
Tree’s need to be thinned. People’s understanding for forestry is very limited. But no one says anything when Bill Gates wants to cut down billions of tree’s to “ save the climate……
@@CammiDred
that is true....but thining means cutting certain trees...for the wellbeing of others....
Not random for shooting a YT Video..
imagine if al bushcrafters would do so.
This does the forest nothing but good. More bushcrafters should do this in these types of woods.
Dave, Beautiful time lapse of the night sky (I could watch that for hours). Fantastic video! All due respect Dave, but please remind your viewers of how dangeous this can be at -33C if you do not have the experience and knowledge that you have. Though this looks like fun (and it is if you are prepared and experienced like yourself) it can also be very risky and maybe fatal. Again, all due repect to you Dave. Best regards and Merry Christmas to you and Vivian.
Good morning from Syracuse NY USA brother and thank you for sharing your adventures
Thanks for sharing this snowy adventure - feeling inspired!"
This is such a Peaceful Video.
Thank You 😊
Merry Christmas, thanks for your videos!
The only thing missing is a little green pine tree 🌲 air freshener hanging up in the middle of that teepee for the next person that comes along 😂
you cut too many trees for your one night.
Nah, I'll use this shelter for several more overnights this winter. All the wood will be used for firewood in the spring. Nothing goes to waste.
That's redicules harvesting a few trees not problem it's not like the woods are full of campers knocking down thousands of trees a day. Don't be a bichi snoflake....
Love your content Dave, thanks for all of your hard work. Cheers 🍻
Much appreciated!
Thank you for following my channel and bringing me to yours! That sharp axe makes quick work of those spruce poles...nice. Thanks for sharing this badassery...a great video...and I'm following you now!
Real great~ I wish I could do similar thing in near future.
Love snow melts❤
Hey Dave you made the place look so cozy with the fire and lantern even though it was freezing cold. Good job man. Thanks.
Glad you enjoyed it!
I would've put more pine branchs around to insulate it better, and some sort of makeshift door.
What a beautiful, albeit extremely cold site. Thank you for taking me with you while I sit in my 75°F den next to my fireplace. All the beauty and serenity, without the cold and hidden dangers
Good boy, enjoy home prison
Glad you enjoyed it😁👍
I love the Christmas Tree Shelter, really nice putting it all together.
Thanks so much!
That's awesome! One of my favourite teenage memories is erecting a huge TIPI at a wilderness camp on Pigeon Lake and then sleeping in it. It had canvas and everything so once it was built they used it for future camps. I wonder if it's still there or if their insurance made them take it down lol.
Wowwwww thts amazing……
Tree tipis are also called a wickiup. Nice build.
Hey Dave, Great to see you again! My wife and I were in Yellowknife 3 years ago and fell in love with the area. True bush. Greetings from the Arrowhead of Minnesota. Have a great Christmas!
Thanks! Happy holidays!
Genial 👍😂🎉

Great vlog ❤❤👏👏👏👏
-27’F is cold but when your layered up and move around constantly you get warm but that shelter is dope 😅
Looks like it might just contain a snack for a very hungry bear!!
No bears in the wintertime.
Esta muy bonito el vídeo en lo que no estoy de acuerdo es que destrulla pinos verdes todos los videos que e visto usan árboles secos caídos
Awesome!
Don't you just love those well engerineered Chinese snow ❄️❄️❄️ shovels???
Where did you find that stove?? Got a link? :) I have done a lot of outdoor adventures in my life...this is the first time I have thought about getting a stove like that as it would be nice to have along a light weight stove like that:) and save work...which also means leaving more time for adventures and playing :)... I have also never thought about stacking trees like that. I will be following your videos...thanks for sharing :)
I loved this video. I have a lot of followers who might love this also so I will share your link. Best of life to you. :)
That's extreme camping, nice video.
Thanks for watching!
Super interesting video. One question, one comment.
1) Your knife looks like my ESEE 6P, what sheath do you have?
2) The secret to any survival situation is Tabasco! Where is your Tabasco??
3) The snow version of Dawn works extremely well. Down in the south, we use creek or river sand, but that snow and a bough worked great! Excellent tip!
OK - 2 questions, 2 comments. :)
Super !

Nice. A dream to live inside a christmas tree.
I did a similar setup during subzero temps. As cozy as it looks, it was brutal. However this was before you were born and I didn’t have all the high tech gear you have.
I hope Vivian was snug by the fire at home.😊
Keep em coming Dave.
Glad you enjoyed the video 😁✌️

Just the camera work energy is amazing. Good for you
Realy nice Video 👍 (sorry for my english) but what the Name from this Backpack please 🙏🙏🙏

There are so many open spaces in the shelter. Why didn’t you fill those in a bit better? Wouldn’t it have made it warmer and kept the breezes out?
@wordsmth8 there’s a fine balance with determining how many calories you should expend building a shelter versus how many are required to keep you warm. This understanding comes from experience in these conditions and knowing your personal limitations. This shelter was more than adequate for what I needed. My primary shelter, which are the clothes I’m wearing and my secondary shelter, which is my sleep system is what provides me the warmth and shelter that I need. The tipi was just a bonus.
Awesome job.❤❤❤
Great Job Pete!!
Ufff!!
Crack!!
Hey man I've missed you,it looks like we got disconnected,I see u got a mustache!!! Geez 😂!! Glad to see you camping again!!! Merry Christmas my friend Happy New Year!!!
There are unlimited trees in the North. As far as the eye can see. Trillions. No impact at all folks😊
What you said has made me wonder about something: if there was to be an estimate of how many trees there are on the planet, I wonder how many would there be?
I know no one could give an exact answer, but I bet someone has studied it; both for economic and environmental reasons.
Are you being serious or sarcastic lol. Those trees native areas they live in are being compromised. I don’t know what trump news you watch but the planet IS dying my man. Just bc your lawn is green doesn’t mean 💩🤡
The impact of cutting 1 tree after cutting millions that were not replanted can hardly be inconsequential. However, at this point does it matter if he wants to cut a tree down for shelter? Could he have taken the bottom branches and used those against the tree for shelter leaving the tree alive and healthy while he could have a shelter? Probably but he wanted to cut a tree to look like a tree ok content!
What's the weather and temperature like in summer up there?
Hello from Arkansas, terrific content and video! Any plans for a live stream?
Perfect. Thanks for not playing music background and not talking keeping the video as original 👍😎Super
New sub. That was a great video! 🇨🇦
Good mornin 🖐😎👍
Good morning!
Nicely done. I very much enjoy to watch your videos. Would you share what your sleeping bag is rated for temperature wise? Thanks.
I was using a Canadian military modular sleep system rated down to -30. With the extra layers of wool I was wearing I was probably good to -40 for a few hours before the cold would creep in.
Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. Good information to have. @@upnorthof60
Super extreme winter camping.
how did you not get wet from the melting snow from the braches you used as the walls?
Great shovel 😅
Cold on the hands with putting those stove legs away huh.. lol
Tree house! It a shelter made from tress. Tarzan had a tree house. Informative video.
If one wanted to not be noticed in the forest, this to me is a good way of doing it. Shelter fits right in with the surroundings.
The stars looked crazy cool! Thanks for sharing 👍
Hey, how are you doing, i don't think that would be warm enough to sleep over night. I know you have a wood stove but that isn't going to keep you warm enough. But in a pinch it would do. Thanks for sharing that it will help someone . Stay warm and safe and sound and take care 😊
..HUMBLE SUGGESTION ..USE SNOW FOR COOKING AND SAVE YOUR WATER FOR DRINKING.
Personally, id be removing a few lower branches on one the larger trees, weaving them and some limbs from deadfalls to cozy up a shelter. Ive done it in my past and it takes less time and energy. A small fire gives off enough heat to keep relatively warm and the smoke disapates through the pine boughs .
Been following your channel for a few years now, don’t often comment as I’m quite busy on YT but always 👍🏻
Loved the Timelapse and so lovely to see new videos from you.
