    That is my kind of fun, but I would suggest a bit of fishing. It brings out joy even in the worst weather. Enjoy! I hope the weather will bless us with better days. January is always a rainy month.

      I’d be lying if I haven’t thought about it, I used to fish as a lad with my old man, then didn’t carry on after my teens. A few of the outdoor lads I follow on here use travel rods, I’m not sure where to start tho. Thank you for watching 😃

      @@foresteroutdoorsEverytime I go to Isle of Skye or Loch Etive(North Connel) I always take my spinning rod with me. There is nothing better than a freshly cooked mackerel. Just a 21g silver Wedge Lure and it does the job. Thanks for making videos.

      @foresteroutdoors A wee telescopic rod with some maggot on a small hook with a bubble float as you sit there in the kayak and admire the view. Keep it simple and enjoy. (You'd prob want a small telescopic net too. 😁) Fling it out whilst setting up your camp. You just never know when they'll bite.

    Top quality video mate, really good. Iv left the tarp until morning a few times and regretted it as its rained through the night. Silly thing is occasionally still do out of laziness

      Nice one mate. It got dark quick I got tea on and didn’t stay up late, I deffo should have put it up but we live n learn 😂 helps to have a little space to exist under, there’s not a lot of room in those tents plus it keeps the rain out when you open the door

    We really want to get out on the lochs. The only thing that puts me off is the distance, I put a 12 km day in, in the lakes, and there was a strong head wind for about 6ks... it has scarred me for life 😂. I love getting out on the canoe though.

    • @foresteroutdoors
      @foresteroutdoors  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The distance is an issue, I keep trying to convince the Mrs to move to Scotland but she’s not keen.
      Headwinds and canoes are never a good combo! There has been days of paddling into heavy headwinds and I damn near collapse when getting back to camp/ the car, all part of it tho.

    Basically reminds me of the last time I camped around loch Awe (mid 80's ish, campsite south of Dalavich), , when the rain stopped the midges came out........Remind me, I seem to remember canoeing to a larger island with a graveyard and another smaller with a castle with a stone "crapper" ?????. Excellent vid.

    Nice one John, promise I won't tell anyone about the stove firefighting lol 😂. Sometimes you've just gotta do what you've gotta do ain't ya. The old timers would have used whatever they had so I reckon it was a good call 🙂👍. Looked a tough trip at times in some poor weather but you saw it out mate and time in the Great Outdoors is always special and character building. Looks a beautiful place , I'll definitely put on the list.
    Atb John, hopefully join you on a trip soon, atb Rick n Billydog

      Haha yes needs must Rick, I was Hank Marvin!! The daft thing is I lit the easy fire the cheat way and the hard to light soggy fire the next night the harder way with cotton wool 😂 but it’s good to test the skills and make sure you can do it when needed. It really was a stunning place, gutted I didn’t get to explore as intended but a decent trip non the less. We can’t complain we choose to be out there. Deffo mate, 2024 is the year of multi day river trips I think, Hope to get on the water with ya soon!

      @@foresteroutdoors all the encouragement I needed. I'm going to dip my toe in the water with an inflatable and if that gets enough use, I'll take the plunge on a solid one -- hopefully not literally 😂

    • @foresteroutdoors
      @foresteroutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@eallistone the inflatable are decent, and they pack down in the car. If you go for a Canadian have a look at second hand ones before taking the plunge on a brand spanner! also have a look on song of the paddle forum, there’s usually a few for sale on there. Hope to see you on the water soon 😃

    What are the midges like in July? I'm staying in Dalavich on the loch with my 6year old and the owner is just telling me that they cant determine if they will have midges in July not very helpful tbh.

    • @foresteroutdoors
      @foresteroutdoors  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It’s on the west coast(which suffer midges worse than the east), I’d say they would be there anytime may onward. I wonder why they don’t want to say? Have a look at the bug shirt (from Canada) I use these when midges are really bad. If not a head net and gloves etc may suffice.
