I grew up in Detroit, and Cedar Point was basically our summer home. No matter how much we were struggling, my mom and dad made it so we could go at least twice a summer. I remember there was a water ride of sorts where Raptor now stands, and I was about an inch too short. My dad said not to worry, we would ride it together the next summer. We come back next summer, it's gone and there's Raptor... and I was an inch too short. A core memory is my mom having to hold seven year old me back, screaming and crying, as I watched my dad get into the line to ride it. Up until my dad got sick in 2011, we were still going at least once a year, the final time in July of 2011 (didn't know it would be the final trip anywhere with my dad at the time). I wish he could see the videos you make, especially on somewhere so close to our home. I know he would have loved them. Keep doing what you do, you are doing it well.

Borderline every single person regularly goes with their parents/grandparents when they’re young, then their friend group when they’re teens and up, and eventually with their own kids. Roller coasters have been nothing but fun for me since my first ride as an 8 year old. The notion that people out there find coasters terrifying or particularly exhilarating is such an interesting concept to me. Everyone I know just thinks they’re pure dumb, silly, amazing fun. It’s just what you do with your friends in the summer and again for Halloweekends. The older you get the more your realize how special this place is. I’ve yet to encounter another park that can even pretend to hold a candle to “America’s Rockin’ RollerCoast”. Ride On!
I couldn't agree with you more, growing up in northeast ohio as well, we just took for granted what an amazing place Cedar Point was. We kind of just assumed everyone had a place like Cedar Point!! I think it's kind of the same way about people finding coasters scary, growing up on roller coasters i loved them, so i just assumed everyone loved them lol. Anyway I love Cedar Point it will always be the best amusement park ever in my book!!!
I'm from Michigan and every year we spend four days at Cedar Point. I love the resort, I love the beach and I love the rides. You guys are so lucky to live so close. I drove to Pennsylvania last week and I wanted to take the Cedar Point exit
Yes!!! I'm from Akron and we grew up going to Cedar Point, Geauga Lake, and Kennywood. All 3 were great in their own way (R.I.P. Geauga Lake 😥), but Cedar Point was always the best!!! Now having traveled to a bunch of parks, Cedar Point still tops the list! My husband grew up with Magic Mountain as his home park, and as awesome as a park as it is, Cedar Point still beats it. The best was taking my husband there the first time. He heard all the hype around here and thought there was no way it could be better than Magic Mountain. He now stands corrected 😆😆 and that was before Steel Vengeance! 🤣🤣🤣 Can't wait to take my kids! They're finally both over 48" and can ride tons of rides now!!!!

I don't care what anyone says, I loved disaster transport as a kid. It was my favorite thing at the park even after Raptor got built. One of my friends told me that the trains "jumped off the track" and it wasn't until much later in life that I realized what he actually meant, I had no idea how it worked until I was an adult but the feel of it was always my favorite. Glad I was too young to ever notice or care that it was considered a flop.
The image of Steel Vengeance still boggles my mind to some extent. It looks like a roller coaster from a cartoon episode with comically intimidating and physically impossible rides. It's this massive wooden and steel behemoth with seemingly impossible angles and elements and I want to ride it so badly.
I remember the year the Gemini opened, my sister and I went on it 22 times in a row. That's back when the crowds weren't so insane and the double track really helps the line go fast
Just got back from there and it was the best! It was my first time going when i was tall enough to ride everything. My favorite coasters by far were Top Thrill Dragster and Valvaran.

Growing up in Michigan you had 2 options for summer vacations. It was either go “Up North” or go to Cedar Point. Born in the mid 80s I was thankful to grow up with all the mega coasters in the “coaster wars” from the late 80s to to the mid 2000s. My parents used to get a coaster magazine to get us excited for the trip that always showed a CP ride saying cedar point was the Roller Coaster capital of the world and voted best amusement park. Came with a Cedar Point map too and that was how we found out all the new rides and attractions. The good ol days of being a kid. In 2009 when the demon drop went it cemented in me that my childhood was over. Some good coasters have gone up since my last visit but it just isn’t the same. TLDR, excellent video!
I was in Kindergarten when Magnum opened. Kids used to whisper about the 5th and 6th graders on the playground. “He road magnum,” was the sign this was a kid you didn’t want to mess with.
I first became aware of Cedar Point when a friend from Cincinnati would send me VHS cassettes he would tape while riding the various coasters in the park. I never got to visit the park itself and by now my coaster-riding days are probably behind me, but this wonderfully detailed documentary is quite a pleasurable ride all on its own. Thanks for posting.
Very fortunate to have the point as a home theme park. Anxious to see what kind of coaster they have in store next year and although wicked twister was great when it opened it didn’t age well and was quite jerky in it’s later years.
I live 15 minutes from Tuscora Park and would go there all the time as a little kid, I don't think that I ever knew that I had a piece of Cedar Point history in my county.
This is a brilliant video! I just love all the coaster footage - there’s something aesthetically pleasing about watching these graceful machines loop and roll. It must have taken ages to put together all the research and to find footage of coasters no longer in operation. I look forward to more coaster videos - this channel has become one of my favourite.
Iron Dragon is my favorite ride at Cedar Point. When I was younger, it was one of the few I was tall enough for. So my friends at I would ride Iron Dragon about 12 times lol The other rides I would ride a ton of times was "Thunder Canyon" and "Destination Transport" (too bad its gone now) :( Edit: I remember when the "Raptor" was opened! It was soooo good when it came out. Now its a little choppy at the end. I also remember when "Wicked Twister" came out when I was in high school. so sad its gone now :( Cedar Point never lets you down. They have somethings for everyone, even for little kids.
I'm going to Cedar Point a week from today! So stoked! Its been 13 years since I've been there. Really excited for Steel Vengeance, looks incredible. Unfortunately Dragster will be closed (what's new right), because that lady got hit in the head with a piece of metal that fell off it.
I heard about what happened to that lady on the dragster... 😟 I was too scared to go on it before it shut down because the track shook a lot everytime the carts flew past!
Well done Peter. It might have been cool to mention that the Cedar Point brass once again returned to Opryland in 1984 to try the Intamin bobsled, Screamin' Delta Demon. However, not liking the in line seating and even concerned that the larger 4 row, 8 person car offered was not good enough for capacity, they ordered custom 5 row, 10 person cars. Some think, the decision may have backfired since the ride didn't have the aggressive edge with the longer bulkier cars.
I am absolutely ecstatic about this video. There was a solid like 3 consecutive summers that my family would just go to Cedar Point. I don't actually remember anything significant opening during that time (other than the failure that was Shoot the Rapids), but I can't believe that I'm older than a lot of my favorite rides! It's also tear-shedding to see footage of some old favorites that are now gone, like the Wildcat, Disaster Transport, Mean Streak, Space Needle, Wicked Twister...which I just learned about its closure this year, despite it being removed last year. As a Northern Ohioan, this was and still is a staple of my whole life!! I remember hearing about the big shutdowns. Also, rest in piece Dragster, you will be missed, but hopefully replaced with some new thrills! I can't wait for the new Boardwalk area too (they're bringing back the Wild Mouse!!!)
Such an excellent, well made video! I have one small critique, and that is one coaster was overlooked: Demon Drop. And before everyone says this is a drop tower (which it is), it is also by every definition a legit coaster. Hey, if the park can try and pass off Pipe Scream as a coaster, this absolutely should qualify!
I love Cedar Point so much, this is an awesome video! The Top Thrill Dragster will always be my favorite ride, with Maverick right behind. I've waited HOURS for Dragster due to breakdowns and I've never minded, I love that ride so much.
Awesome video! Cedar Point is my all time favorite place and I have always wanted to know more about it’s humble beginnings! Thanks for including so much information!! Love it!!
A friend and I rode the Gemini 86 x and blue streak 27x in 1984. We went on a church trip and it was raining hard the whole way there in July and when we got there it slowed down and then it stopped for the rest of the day and it was hot, that being said..we had the whole park to ourselves and hardly anyone there until late afternoon and they stayed open pretty late back in that time and there is nothing like that park at night riding the rides cooling off. I was there day after opening day in May of 89 and it was freezing. We rode the magnum and that ride was hitting very high speeds and people were getting hurt and the following yr they put brakes in a few different places to slow it way down. That was the fastest coaster in 89 and I couldn’t believe how slow it was the next yr. The game rooms were awesome back then and to my surprise those game rooms were big ballrooms where the big bands played and all the greats played there. Above the big game room was an untouched ballroom with the biggest chandelier I have ever seen in my life with the stage still there in 87. After seeing these recent videos of the park, it seems like another park that I don’t recognize. Haven’t been there since 93 but had the best times of my life there back then. Thanks for making this video! You did a great job and you are a great narrator! This used to be a park for all ages but the older folks have nothing to ride anymore. I love the coasters but a lot of the nostalgia is gone and I really loved frontier town to watch the glass makers and all the trades they did in there!
I love cedar point! So many good roller coasters, and it's close to me. It's sad that they are getting rid of wicked twister, but they will probably open something better.
Wow i remember visiting geauga lake as a kid! I had forgotten about it until i saw it mentioned in your comment. They had a roller coaster where the track was laid out on a hill! 😊 i enjoyed it immensly. Of course i was a kid when everything was fantastic.
What an awesome video! I had no idea that Cedar Point almost became a housing development in 1956! Thank god they listened to the public on that choice!
Nice video, Iron Dragon was the only ride that I would go on the first few times I went there when I was in middle and junior school and now I've been on almost every ride but I haven't been there in over a dozen years even though I'm about 3 hours away
The evolution of the place seems to parallel the evolution of roller coasters in general: early experiments leading to a golden age in the 1920s and '30s that died around World War II, then a slow build to a new blossoming in the 1970s that has persisted to the present day.
I go to ValleyFair quite often and I will be going at the end of the month and the day before they close with my mom, so excited! Steel venom is the best
I grew up going to Cedar Point, but didn’t know much of this. Great job! My son (12) is obsessed with your videos and wanted to suggest that you do something like this for our home park, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay. Thanks!
Cedar Point is really fun!! My first roller coaster was the Gemini, and my second was the Iron Dragon! Awesome video and I'm glad to know a lot of the history at Cedar Point, thanks!!

Omg I love ur vids soooo much! You are part of the reason I became an enthusiast! Keep up the good work!
"Top Thrill Dragster was my WORST mistake ever..."
Top Thrill 2: aHAHA! may I introduce myself?!!
Lol
Great vid! I live in Michigan and just about two hours from Sandusky, OH. I love Cedar Point and love the history. I also love the people of Ohio!
You could totally handle the smaller ones I'd bet. That new wild mouse is small but fun
Can’t wait to watch this with my 13 year old son. He is a roller coaster junkie and I’m pretty sure Cedar Point is his favorite place on earth.
I hope he enjoys it! 🙂
I pray for you both.
The Blue Streak is still there? Cool! Happy to see The Wild Mouse mentioned. When I was a kid, that was one of my favorite rides!
yes it is as of 3 days ago😊
There's no place like home! I love living 5 mins away!!😍😍😍
I could make comments for hours since this is my beloved cedar point. But I won’t. I’ll just say thanks for the video and RIP Disaster Transport lol!!
Finally cedar point is my favorite park and I was so excited for this
Great video!!! Cedar Point is my home park & during my childhood all the way up to 2017, we've gone every single summer. You did a great job.
This has been your best video yet! Cedar Point is my favorite place and you did it right!
Iron Dragon is my favorite ride at Cedar Point. When I was younger, it was one of the few I was tall enough for. So my friends at I would ride Iron Dragon about 12 times lol The other rides I would ride a ton of times was "Thunder Canyon" and "Destination Transport" (too bad its gone now) :(
Edit: I remember when the "Raptor" was opened! It was soooo good when it came out. Now its a little choppy at the end.
I also remember when "Wicked Twister" came out when I was in high school. so sad its gone now :(
Cedar Point never lets you down. They have somethings for everyone, even for little kids.
Okay but the fact that Top Thrill Dragster closed 3 DAYS after this video uploaded is a crazy coincidence.
I'm going to Cedar Point a week from today! So stoked! Its been 13 years since I've been there. Really excited for Steel Vengeance, looks incredible. Unfortunately Dragster will be closed (what's new right), because that lady got hit in the head with a piece of metal that fell off it.
Honestly dragster is such a long line for such a short ride you're not missing much
I heard about what happened to that lady on the dragster... 😟 I was too scared to go on it before it shut down because the track shook a lot everytime the carts flew past!
Oh boy, the statement about Dragster aged well
Great job on this video! Amazing!!!
Shame, you only got 62k views on this one, clearly so much work put into this!
awesome job. I havent been to the park in a while this one make me want to go back soon.
The video all coaster fans have been waiting for!!!
You're a great documentarian! Amazing video! 👏
There is so much detail is this video! Very good job!
Yess finnaly you have released this video! I was just hear last week and it was amazing!
This was such a great video ! Thank you for all your hard work. Keep it up. Totally my families favorite you tuber !
The ride is not available right now but it should reopen in twenty twenty four or five
Top Thrill Dragster probably won't be going anywhere: Closes August of '21. Video uploads August of '21.
Nice video and great history of Cedar Point. Thanks!
I miss demon drop.
Love it!!
Great full on review! It's nice to see you making a longer video. Keep it up Dude!
Been waiting for this thanks for taking the time and making a great video
Been there three times.
Hopefully one day I'll be able to make it back and ride those coasters again.
I love cedar point! So many good roller coasters, and it's close to me. It's sad that they are getting rid of wicked twister, but they will probably open something better.
Lots of people think it’s gonna be a Gerstlauer infinity coaster
@@neilgordon2879 That could end up being a really good coaster! Even if it's not, it's Cedar Point. I'm sure whatever it is will be amazing
19:02 I agree Cedar Point has the best and most diverse layout of any coaster.
Millennium Force is still my all time favorite coaster. It scared the hell out of me when i was a kid. Total addrenalin rush!
Great job. As an Ohioian Cedar Point is a must visit. Sad though that Cedar Fair took away my childhood stomping ground of Geauga Lake.
Wow i remember visiting geauga lake as a kid! I had forgotten about it until i saw it mentioned in your comment. They had a roller coaster where the track was laid out on a hill! 😊 i enjoyed it immensly. Of course i was a kid when everything was fantastic.
@@charlesmaniez6392 I believe that was the Raging Wolf Bobs.
What a great video, love the research and history
I wish you would do one in CP as well. Maybe one during the Coaster Renaissance.
What an awesome video! I had no idea that Cedar Point almost became a housing development in 1956! Thank god they listened to the public on that choice!
Valravn is my favorite especially in front row like the experience of hanging over the drop is so awesome
Nice video, Iron Dragon was the only ride that I would go on the first few times I went there when I was in middle and junior school and now I've been on almost every ride but I haven't been there in over a dozen years even though I'm about 3 hours away
I'm going there next week! I plan on doing Wicked Twister (the park announced it will have its last riders on September eighth)
I’ve never been to CP and I hope I’ll get to ride it 😁
Ive heard you know why or if its being moved elsewhere or a new ride?
@@boazbaruchisraelohio5554 I’m not sure. Hopefully it’s relocated
Lots of people think cedar point is gonna get a gerstlauer infinity coaster so that’s probably what’s happening here
Incredible work. Truly incredible.
The evolution of the place seems to parallel the evolution of roller coasters in general: early experiments leading to a golden age in the 1920s and '30s that died around World War II, then a slow build to a new blossoming in the 1970s that has persisted to the present day.
Great video! It is sad about what has happened with Dragster. They are keeping it closed this 2022 season.
Thanks!
Great video 👍 Always love learning the history of these parks
Love the video been going to cedar point all my life and the updated coasters and info helps a lot….halloweekends 2021 here I come
Amazing video, great to know all this info about my home park.
Amazing work. Keep it up! A kings island history video would be awesome!
Cedar Point is really fun!! My first roller coaster was the Gemini, and my second was the Iron Dragon! Awesome video and I'm glad to know a lot of the history at Cedar Point, thanks!!
Banger vid. Love this park
31:55 heh it's closed now
*checks news*
Top Thrill 2
oh nice
Huge video! Great job and keep up the great work!
