The fact that these kids actually have parents that care about them is a big plus in my book. Way too often kids in anime don't have parents, their parents are overseas, or are neglectful, so it's fresh to see real families supporting the characters for once.

It literally is filler. By definition. You don't have care about what others say, but you're just denying reality by claiming it's not filler. It can be filler and good at the same time. Besides, the existence of filler basically means that anime can have different canon from the manga.
For example, Bleach has some filler that actually ties in a bit to the actual main story plot. Same with Naruto.

4:18 I can relate to Kacchon because I see a lot of my old self in him. Growing up I had a very short fuse, and even to this day say things meaning one thing that many hear as something else not understanding how the misunderstandings happened. The big difference between me and him is I wasn't the bully in my childhood, but the one targeted. I eventually developed a stand your ground personality, and would often come out swinging to defend myself at the slightest insult. After a time they moved on to other people, and because I knew what it was like to be on the receiving end I would often place myself between them and their target. As I grew older I started developing the ability to shrug off any insults directed towards me keeping my fuse in check, but would fire back when I heard one directed at someone I cared about.
In my teens I was so used to fighting while as a kid that I came to love the thrill of the fight, but hated the thought of hurting someone. Still had a short fuse, but it was harder for me to loose my cool since miner insults could be ignored and I got good at throwing them back. Wasn't till my mid to late 20s that I started to mellow out. Its now much harder to get under my skin, and been many years since I've gotten into a fight. Now adays I do whatever I can to avoid fighting or getting into fights. I still stand my ground when I feel the need to, but will let most things slide because I am no longer fazed by it. In order to get me swinging you have to swing first otherwise I choose a more passive rout.
For a reference I grew up in the 90s seems like a deferent world back than.

    • @retroshark8
      @retroshark8 ปีที่แล้ว +11

The thing is, what even is filler? Sure there's the main storyline or something... so, does that mean all the things that follow it are main and everywhere outside is filler? But let's just say that the main storyline is an interwinded story of many people(both of the main and side characters) and then let's just say that the "filler" is a story of one of the side characters... What I'm trying to say - this episode isn't a filler. I haven't seen too much of those hundreds episodes having shows that a lot of people say have a lot of fillers. But from what I saw and hear and think, filler is something that has no growth, as in character don't grow in any way, don't realise anything... Basically I think it's those episodes that just have characters... Probably taking a break... I couldn't really express my opinion in words, but I tried

@@retroshark8 You make some good points!

    • @JusaWanderer
      @JusaWanderer ปีที่แล้ว +6

@retroshark8 As said, you make good points. Filler being thrown around a lot has caused a negative view point for all content not from the "source material". There are good fillers that know how to intertwine with the "source" and even fill in gaps the source didn't have time to cover due to the type of medium it starts as. I think sometimes series do to better then other, like One Piece for example often has"filler" for events that do happen in the on going narrative but didn't get fleshed out or didn't have time too in the manga. I still think OP can have medicore or bad filler arcs sometimes but they're more often well placed in the story.
I'd say that most MHA fillers are pretty good but more towards the early half. I do think the vision of the story does kind of suffer at some points later because of financial decisions that people don't always agree with. (Season 5 of this anime comes to mind. A lot of odd creative choices were made.) Stiff that doesn't really "add" anything like a lot of the early stuff.
I'd say shows like Bleach and Naruto got the sort end of the stick sometimes. Not everything was bad but man there's so much of it and often placed at such inconvenient times. Sometimes it made sense way since it was getting to close to tge source material which often happened to Bleach, but there was really no excuse for stuff like Naruto which still had those inconvenient placements when the manga had been over for awhile.
Mostly saying it fillers can be a great tool for the wider overall narrative if handled well.

So this may be filler, but My Hero has some of the better filler episodes I've seen in anime. Fleshing out the main cast of 20 beyond the important boys is very much appreciated. Heck, even they sometimes need additional focus beyond Deku.
Again, I find Jeanist to be forcing excess aesthetic conformity, but he has good lessons that Bakugo will need to learn if he's to be more than just a niche battle hero who is too much most.
A hero shouldn't make kids cry if they can help it. Take Batman for example. One of the scarier heroes well known in pop culture. He'll still try to comfort a kid while in the costume. He may not be able to put on a warm smile like Clark, but he can show warmth. His brand of fear is for criminals, not civilians.
Pride is one of those things were you need some but too much will burn you up.
    Gunhead is a good teacher.
So much for patrolling by Momo. Though on some level, this does give a degree of peace of mind.
As someone who's cleaned fairgrounds, it could be worse, though no free Gyro for picking up at a playground.
Meanwhile, Jiro iss getting the second most action of the class.
Now, after appetizers, we get to the the catch of the day by following Tsu with the Coast Guard affiliate. And before people joke, Coast Guards do important duties, and more smuggling is caught by the US coast guard than along the land border with Mexico, and that's been true for years. To say nothing of how the US Coast Guard ranges from search and rescue to having enough firepower to be a formidable fighting force if tested. Also some ships that the waves have a near impossibly job sinking. Seriously, they will basically always right themselves if the proper hatches are sealed.
To compare to Batman again, sometimes you get to knock heads, drive fast, and get a surge of adrenaline from zipping on a grappling hook. Other nights you have a quiet rotation on Watch Tower monitor duty. Then there are the late nights of intel gathering in the cold rain for hours of waiting. And the ruined chances of a social life. The long hours training the kids. The guilt over those he couldn't save...
But then there's the family he's built. Knowing he helps people on the daily. Knowing how much he fights to help his city in boardroom and batmobile. Having Clark and Diana in his life.
    Yeah, Selkie is pretty built.
    Anchors aweigh!
Sailing can lead to a very developed physique. Mind you, it can also lead to portly people manning consoles these days. Wouldn't mind seeing Sirius with a bit more muscle tone actually, now that I'm thinking about it. She's scrawny compared to all this beef.
Selkie is even more at home in water than Froppy. Not surprising his agency is a Coast Guard affiliate.
That would be a naval flare. Very powerful. And a warcrime if knowing fired specifically at people. Anything that bright runs hot.
Not birds, but cephalopods. You can find beaks on both an octopus and a squid.
"Boss Innsmouth," I see the writers don't just love Star Wars and superhero comics, but have a Lovecraft reader knocking around. Innsmouth being the town from the fish people story old, "Hates Progress Lovecraft," wrote called, "Shadow over Innsmouth."
Pretty strong tentacles. And if they can bust up the boat, they can seriously hurt Sirius.
    Forgot he was sexist.
A show where it's surprising that the fins are a costume piece.
Not just criminals, but a family gang.
    Ahoy, Captain!
6 arms, but only 2 legs with weak grips.
    Captain's seal of approval.

If you compare her here to the way she acted at USJ, she was much more collected and assertive then.
